Good riddance.I despise Gibbs even more now that he’s out of the WH
If I had cable, I don’t think I would have the stomach to watch the press briefings, too much like gossipy kids asking the dumbest questions. No wonder Pres. Obama goes around them. They are worthless.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that federal prosecutors in New Jersey subpoenaed records last week from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, focused on two major bridge contracts awarded to construction companies represented by a law firm founded by the agency’s chairman, David Samson.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey had already been looking at the George Washington Bridge lane closures, which in September caused a massive traffic jam in Fort Lee, N.J., and other allegations recently made against the administration of Gov. Chris Christie (R). Samson, a former state attorney general, is a close ally of Christie’s and was appointed to the board by the governor.
Can’t even imagine what it must be like to receive the Medal of Honor on behalf of a fallen grandfather or father or brother or son or uncle. Is everyone else sobbing? Seriously moving ceremony, made so special because of our President – showing such generosity of spirit to all of them.
This was moving beyond words. I loved it that PBO put his arm around the young lady who was receiving the medal for her father. I would have been sobbing uncontrollably. The recipients themselves had great discipline. One could see their military discipline.
To receive the medal for a loved father would be almost too much to take!
In answer to Mr Mom’s tweet…..No, we have never had a more exceptional leader in my lifetime! (which is LOOOOOONG!)
I know, eh? They have me working 1/2 day this week – all week. 🙄 Then I have afternoon appointments on a couple of the days. Can I get you to tell them that they are disrupting my normal TOD life? I know GGail won’t tell them. 😉
BTW, I didn’t respond to your name change yesterday, confused because I didn’t initially understand why I got a new name. I only discovered the reason for the ‘baptism’ last night when I was trying to do some catching up. This having to work really puts a crimp in my style. 😀
Thank you to the soldiers who is at the WH today and the ones who is not there, thank you to their families for their service to our country. Thank you Mr. President for honoring these heroes.
When I think about the Tea Party signs I used to see saying things like we want our country back, it really piss me off because alot of people fought and died for this country and it does not and will never belong to just those hateful racists.
Every channel ended coverage of the MOH ceremony at 4:00 PM except MSNBC….. pathetic. Jake Tapper, who claims to be an advocate of the military is more concerned about missing plane conspiracies. So sad….
Pathetic. So glad I was watching MSNBC when the others went off. Shame on them. MSNBC needs to go through all 24 before breaking … and, if they actually do, I’ll be thanking them for standing up for a change!
If he’s author of such a critically acclaimed book, then he doesn’t need a job on CNN. And he should have enough “pull” as to advocate for coverage of this event.
Wow. That’s messed up. They can run their mouths about President Obama looking and being “weak” or about war but they can’t dedicate the time to honor those who fought and died so they can have the avenue to air their daily drivel.
You can add MSNBC to that list. Only C-SPAN and the White House are airing the full ceremony.
Can anyone imagine American politicians running around praising Hitler, Sadaam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, Stalin, the way the right wing conservatives are praising Putin?
Sadly, yes, there were politicians in the late 20s and 30s praising Hitler. Joseph Kennedy made some untoward remarks that got him recalled from his ambassadorship to Britain. Other wealthy oligarch types also supported Hitler initially. Fortunately, FDR didn’t listen to them any more than POTUS does to that type today.
Edwina, it’s some juxtaposition, isn’t it, having real heroes honored for risking their lives for their country and seeing the venal, self-absorbed Christie, whose service to his “state” consists of corruption and bullying.
Stay with the stories edwina – the media concentrating on missing planes and wanting the US to go to war with Russia isn’t going to save Gov Christie and his pals.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that federal prosecutors in New Jersey subpoenaed records last week from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, focused on two major bridge contracts awarded to construction companies represented by a law firm founded by the agency’s chairman, David Samson.
Once again, Nerdy, thank you. What makes me weep is that our country could do such a disservice to these brave men because of the color of their skin or their ethnicity. We asked everything of those who fought our country’s wars and we chose to give some of them nothing. It breaks my heart that this is part of our history as a nation. Shame on us. And bless this president for righting that dreadful wrong.
If anyone is wondering, like I was, why the US Embassy in Syria was closed today, here is Kerry’s explanation. Basically, Kerry says the presence of the embassy is a farce because the US does not recognize Assad’s legitimacy.
Here’s Tennyson’s words, which the President quoted during the Medal of Honor ceremony:
“Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
― Alfred Tennyson, Idylls of the King and a Selection of Poems
Thank you for finding the poem jb! I was scratching my head trying to think of it, and then didn’t go look it up!
How appropriate, and how wonderful that we have a president who reads poetry for special occasions! Just one more reason I love him.
Such an interesting choice at this point in time, given that Tennyson wrote the “Charge of the Light Brigade”
“The Charge of the Light Brigade was a charge of British light cavalry led by Lord Cardigan against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854 in the Crimean War”
Thank you for the reminders jacqueline – my school days were full of British poets (1950s Australia everything was British) – my father never stopped with the reading and the quoting – but I seem to have drifted away – so nice that you and President Obama remind me of my dad and my past.
I.m back from voting and I must say it was tempting to switch parties just to vote against the real RWNJ running in the ‘Pub primaries for governor. He’s a gazillionaire and has used his own money to campaign. He’s for reducing minimum wage by $1.00, and all sorts of the crazy stuff. The only reason I didn’t do that was because of the down ballot votes I wanted participate in for some Dem candidate.
My worry is that, that guy could conceivably win, due to Chicago’s historically poor mid-term voter turn out. Our governor Quinn is very vunerable, cause the downstate rural righty and wound up tighties will GOTV for their guy. We could win it in Cook County alone, if the folks would just do their civic duty.

Thank you, Mr. President, for all you do for ALL Americans – and everyone else in your path of leadership.
So today is the first year anniversary of my missus’ weight loss surgery.
She’s made great strides, has had a few setbacks, but is a completely different person in terms of energy and drive than she was prior to the surgery.
A major accomplishment to Mrs. LL. Give her my love.
Congratulations to her, LL, and bravo to you for giving her all the support she needs. Well done, both!
Gold for LL and Platinum for the Missus.
Congratulations.

Federal Prosecutors Looking At Bridge Contracts Tied To Christie Ally

Will he? By himself? Without the legislature?
Quinn should run ads asking if he could pass a 6th grade test in how government works. Rauner may ‘hate’ government but he still would have to govern.
Enough destruction from RWNJ’s. Let’s get back to decent governance.

On the “narrative” of the President’s weakness…
The reality is that America isn’t omnipotent. It can’t control the whole world. For a couple of decades it was the only superpower left, but this was a temporary situation. Russia has been getting stronger ( a bit) and China is becoming a force. Problem is that a good portion of Americans, and certainly the Villagers in Washington, refuse to see the new reality. It’s MUCH EASIER to use the President as a scapegoat. Oh he’s “weak”; if he was stronger Putin would be afraid of him.

NOBODY in Congress would vote for bombing Russia. And very few americans would be willing to go to war with Russia.
America, GROW UP !!!!!!!!!
Last thing: it may be true that President’s deliberations and “non-linear” path in his thinking/talking on the Syria problem created the ILLUSION that he is indecisive. (For the record, I’ve always been convinced that we don’t know the whole story and that his “thinking” was made much more difficult by the evolution of secret negotiations with Iran, and also by continuous conflicting info about the situation on the ground in Syria .)
Curious though that every critic of the President these days conveniently forgets that when he asked Congress to authorize use of force in Syria, suddenly the war hawks weren’t screaming that loud anymore.
