On March 18th, 2014, President Barack Obama will award 24 Army veterans the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry.
These veterans will receive the Medal of Honor in recognition of their valor during major combat operations in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Each of these Soldiers’ bravery was previously recognized by award of the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation’s second highest military award; that award will be upgraded to the Medal of Honor in recognition of their gallantry, intrepidity and heroism above and beyond the call of duty.
In 2002, Congress, through the Defense Authorization Act, called for a review of Jewish American and Hispanic American veteran war records from WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, to ensure those deserving the Medal of Honor were not denied because of prejudice. During the review, records of several Soldiers of neither Jewish nor Hispanic descent were also found to display criteria worthy of the Medal of Honor. The 2002 Act was amended to allow these Soldiers to be honored with the upgrade – in addition to the Jewish and Hispanic American Soldiers.

Chips, you’ve honored each of them in such a fine way. Thank you!!!!
A pleasure Bob, thank you for your kind words!
Chips, thank you for this lovely tribute. I wonder if you could pass this on to Master Danny for me. I think he will appreciate it. (
Hi Danny,
A little girl in my second grade class wrote this story about hew puppy. He sounds like a pup after your own heart! I am writing it just the way she did.
“My specil event I am waiting for is …My New PuPPy! My dad is meating him today his name is Shiloh. His ia black Laberdoor Reteiver. He is 1 year old. We met him at Michigan Animal Asosheason. And he is a little bit of a Beagle. He is a very good dog. He loves toys he got a Beaver yesterday. He already, ripped the squeker out, (he ripped it out of the bag). It’s half ripped apart, and he ripped both of the ears out. And that is my new dog.”
Doesn’t he sound like a lot of fun, Danny? You should tell him about flowerpots.
(*Chips – note the repeated use of the word ‘ripped’. Any possibility that these two could be brothers by another mother?)

Hiya CM. How did the op go?
Hi, the op isn’t until 3/27 unfortunately. You won’t see or hear a peep from me for a couple weeks after that. Might try and teach hubby how to tweet I’m alive. 😉
It would be good if your husband would kindly just post a note or two here so we all know you are ok, Carol. You’ll be in our thoughts no matter what.
Thanks Bob, will do.
All the best for the op. Sure hubby can wait till you get better and better.
Always taking the guys side. 😉
Thanks for the well wishes amk. ♥
Oh, Carol………
My best friend underwent eye surgery where she had to lay on one side for WEEKS. I hope this isn’t something like that.
{{{{{CarolMae}}}}}}}}
Hi 57, I think it is. I have a detached retina they’re going to reattach. I’ll be happy with my side. I thought I might have to lay on my stomach. 😒 The op is 3/27. Now I have a terrible cold I need to get rid of beforehand. I can’t see out of my right eye so I’m hoping this fixes it. Hugs to you too.
Wishing you all the very best CarolMae, what a horrible time you are having.
Thanks Chips. I’m missing you all so with such limited time to read. But am hopeful for good results. It’s so nice to be a part of this community.
She had a detached retina. Oh, my dear Carol…… You have to get rid of that cold before they do this surgery.
Keep me posted, girlfriend. Hope everything gets fixed ASAP!
Thank you, I will.
Never too late to right a wrong, IMO. Thanks, CC for the pics, tec.
The photos of these incredible people above, so brave and so willing to serve. I feel deeply moved to think what they must have experienced. No words. Grateful to PBO for recognizing and honoring their lives of service to us all.
Thanks for posting all of their pics and stories Chips.
How are you feeling, CarolMae?
I’m doing ok DF, thanks. A little lopsided with only one eye working. But I’m lucky it can probably be fixed.
I understand…hope that you’re back to normal and good as new after the operation. Please tell us ahead of time that you’ll be AWOL for a while…you know how we worry here about the family members 🙂 Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery…
Thanks DF, will do. I’m supposed to be limiting my time on the ‘puter from now until after surgery plus about two weeks. That’s why you don’t see me much. I miss everyone so much.
A pleasure Carol, thank you.
He’s put so many wrongs, right…..thank you honorees, thank you, President Obama. Sure to be a moving ceremony tomorrow.
I missed some news today and I wanted to give a hug to Symmetry for the loss of her mom. I know this sorrow and just know that she’s watching over you.
To 57Female ..so very happy that you finally have the peace of mind that you deserve! I remember how frustrated you were initially, but that’s over now, you got covered:) Wonderful piece you wrote and shared with us…thank you bunches for that…you can BREATHE!

Russian government admits economy in crisis as Ukraine weighs
Moscow markets wait to see the full scale of western measures over the seizure of Ukraine’s Crimea and support of its referendum to join Russia, after losing billions of dollars in recent weeks in state and corporate money.
For weeks, Russian officials have said the confrontation between Moscow and the West over Ukraine that threatens economic sanctions and asset freezes would “weigh on the economy”.
Although not speaking directly about the impact from the conflict, Deputy Economy Minister Sergei Belyakov said on Monday the economy was in trouble.
“The economic situation shows clear signs of a crisis,” Belyakov told a local business conference.
European officials have said they are determined to hit Russia for its actions in Crimea, imposing sanctions including travel bans and asset freezes on those responsible. The United States is expected to take similar steps on Monday.
“People are most afraid of sanctions. Their volume and .. what sanctions there will be and how this will be reflected on the Russian financial system, the economy, the markets and the largest companies,” said Konstantin Chernyshev, head of research at Uralsib in Moscow.
This is gonna hurt…..
They ain’t even begun to feel the burn, df!!

They certainly were not paying attention to their Iranian brothers and sisters …. suspect they, very soon now, will be ….

Ah, yes, add a little ‘self determination’ karma to the list ….
I hope we will be able to see these soldiers get their medals, I will cheer as if I am sitting right there in the WH.
Those that are still alive I mean, but I’m sure some family members will be there to receive the medals of the ones who have passed on.
A big thanks to them all for their service to our country.
Just wanted to recommend this excellent HBO doc I watched tonight—–Maria Shriver’s Paycheck to Paycheck—-following the tough life of a single mom trying to juggle working full time (at low wages), going to school, raise 3 small kids—–not a penny for anything other than the real bare necessities—-and often not enough for even that. So many millions of moms and millions more children face this struggle every day—living at or below the poverty line. You can watch on utube….
I have no tv, will probably not see this story, but it is my story, and I am one with the many mothers who bear our fate as well as we are able to. We age in ways others cannot fathom, we pray for grace and for strength.
Symmetry, I am late in sharing my deep and loving comfort to you for the loss of your precious mother. I also feel the sorrow because my mother left us ten years nine years and it still seems like yesterday because she was such a precious jewel to us.
Keep your space open for your moments to cry, think, laugh about the great fun times with her, her loving hugs, her loving words of encouragement, her special smile, her protective voice for her family, her hard work, her helping others, and her special way of always making sure that you were loved way beyond your thoughts. Mothers are so special like that. Live in her sweet light, and never forget the joys of cherish moments that the two of you shared throughout her life her on this earth.
Be calm with your thoughts, but always be joyful to think of her. It will keep you in a sweet space for your precious mother’s departing. I send my comforting and loving {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Hugs for Symmetry}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} HZ
Oh, HZ, I had not heard about the loss of Symmetry’s mother. Symmetry, please know you’re in my thoughts. I know how hard it was losing my own mother, and I hope you’ll find some joy in all the good memories.
Righting these wrongs for the sake of these heroes and for the sake of our country’s conscience is necessary and good, and brings healing all around.
Bill R., your comment is so powerful. Thank you so much. “and brings healing all around.” So true, Bill R. My heart feels better just from reading your statement. President Barack Obama keeps making these wrongs right. I am so grateful that we were blessed to stop, listen, and go out and work to support this wonderful man as our President of these United States.

The sheer deliciousness of REALITY when it collides with and crushes PROPAGANDA …..
Timothy Snyder: Freedom in Russian exists only in Ukraine
In Ukraine, millions of Russian-speakers read a free press and learn from an uncensored internet
“There is a country where millions of Russian-speakers lack basic rights. That country is the Russian Federation. There is a neighbouring country where tens of millions of Russian-speakers enjoy basic rights — despite the disruptions of a revolution and Russian invasion. That country is Ukraine. As the joke goes, Ukraine is a country where people speak Russian, while Russia is a country where people stay quiet in Russian.
During his remarks, Khodorkovsky was interrupted by the masses on the Maidan. Ukrainians chanted over and over: “Glory to Russia! Glory to Russia! Glory to Russia!” and “Thank you, thank you, thank you”. They pronounced these words of respect to their Russian guest in the Russian language. Such Ukrainians represent Putin’s real Ukrainian problem: free people who speak freely in Russian, and might set an example one day for Russians themselves.”
#TrustBarack … he dwells in reality, rather than being a megalomaniac like #TzarVlad & his sidekick #GWBush.
Wonderful tribute, Chips!

Bobfr…if you would indulge me…(you seem to understand/keep up with all that is going on with Crimea/Russia/Ukraine…or resident Go To guy:)
What did I read about if Crimea is independent than something about Turkey? I have to confess, as much as I try and keep up, I’m more than a little confused about all that is going on there. If Putin declared Crimea independent, isn’t that weird? It’s like his reason for doing what he did there, was a lie.

Caught me on the way to the kitchen, df 🙂
Putin has spun a web of lies, so extensive already, that he’s trapped himself no matter which direction he turns. In a previous thread, earlier today, I posted:
http://maidantranslations.com/2014/03/17/turkey-under-ottoman-empire-treaty-with-catherine-the-great-if-crimea-declares-independence-it-returns-to-turkey/
The irony is exquisite, as is the karma.
Add to it the unambiguous statements from Crimean Tatars very strong ally – Turkey (NATO member since 1952) – and he’s in a real jam. For instance (also noted in a previous thread):
If Putin teaches humanity one clear lesson it should be that reflecting on the consequences of one’s wishes is a mighty wise thing to do – BEFORE making the wish.
#TrustBarack … he gets HOPE, and is wise enough to consider the consequences of it, a priori ….
Thank you so much for your help and insight on this. I’m off to read your link…enjoy your dinner:)
Happy to help, df 🙂
I read the link earlier – thank you so much for all the information Bob – you are a gem of brilliance
thanks for keeping us all informed Bob.
Little Laura is trolling the administration – her nightly habit as of late. She must be getting paid per tweet by some faction…Glad to see she’s getting pushback.
President Barack Obama has haunted the GOP/MSM/Haters since January 21, 2009.
Boom!
Jojo, sent your msg to rozen:
thanks alycee.
Bill R. need to tell Rozen that if she, her family, McCain, Graham, and any other Republican want to go fight Putin and Russia go ahead. But the rest of Americans are tired of war, thanks to Iraq and Afghanistan.
This Rozen woman is full of alot of B.S., ask Laura Rozen is she a physic? If so tell her to look into her crystal ball and ask it what has happen to her common sense?

Oh, Chips, I didn’t expect to come onto the blog tonight to cry. But seeing how respectfully you not only remembered these American heroes – but went to considerable trouble to accomplish a synopsis on them – is much appreciated, and brings a tear to my eye, on behalf of them and their families. So thankful THIS President will have the opportunity to render these honors. Heroes, all.
Ah Jacqueline, extraordinary men, extraordinary life stories, tomorrow will be incredibly emotional. Can’t possibly imagine what the experience will be like for the families of the posthumous recipients. And seeing Santiago Erevia, Melvin Morris and Jose Rodela receive their awards from the President will be heart-thumping.
I hope the recipients don’t faint – I know I would!
These must be the times when Pres. Obama just wants to go off to a quiet room by himself and sob. He no doubt won’t, but how could he not want to? Love him.
And then to read 57’s account – wow. All of this has to be included in why we all keep going and will never give up on supporting this President.
Love ya, Chips!
Night all.
Night DF!
The Medal of Honor ceremony is at 3:40 EST tomorrow.
Ah … I’ll be awake, then. Thanks, Chips, and goodnight to ya!

Sitting on the side of the road waiting to catch speeding drivers a state trooper sees a car puttering along at 22 mph. He thinks to himself, “This driver is as dangerous as a speeder!”
So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five elderly ladies – two in the front seat and three in the back, wide-eyed and white as ghosts.
The driver, obviously confused, says to him, “Officer, I don’t understand. I was going the exact speed limit. What seems to be the problem?”
The trooper, trying to contain a chuckle, explains to her that 22 was the route number, not the speed limit.
A bit embarrassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.
“But before you go, Ma’am, I have to ask, is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken.”
“Oh, they’ll be all right in a minute, officer. We just got off Route 127.”

Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Rafa go to heaven.
The three of them are sent to the pearly gates of heaven where they have to give a 5 minute talk on why St Peter should support their club.
Arsene Wenger starts off first and in the end St Peter praises him and says, “By the way, did you remember that time when Eduardo so blatantly and obviously dived in that game?”
Wenger replies, “I cannot say. Maybe, possibly, I don’t know but I didn’t see it.” This pisses St Peter of a bit, so he sends Arsene back to earth.
Rafa has his turn, sits down and places a big sealed portfolio with files inside it. He gives St Peter a 5 minute talk on why Liverpool FC is the best club in the world and why he should support them. St Peter interrupts him at 4:50 seconds and asks, “But how can you be so sure Liverpool FC are the best club of the three to support? ”
Rafa simply says, “St Peter, I’m simply stating the facts.” St Peter doesn’t like the tone of Rafa’s voice, so sends him back to earth too.
St Peter looks towards Alex Ferguson, who remarks, “5 minutes? Is that all you’re giving me? This is a fucking disgrace…”
Wife: “There’s trouble with the car. It has water in the carburettor.”

Wife: “In next door’s swimming pool.”

Third of uninsured refuse to buy Obamacare
hahahahaha – the delicious joy – so two thirds of the uninsured have bought Obamacare – that is so impressive given the problems with the rollout and the negative publicity. The President & his administration have done a brilliant job – shame some of the Democrats don’t join in with the effort.

Chips, you’re the best. What a magnificent post to honor these veterans…it brought tears to my eyes. Our wonderful President is trying to right the wrong of this country in so many ways (better late than never). Thank you Mr. President and these veterans who so bravely put their lives on the line to serve and protect.
Thanks again Chips…EXCELLENT!
This is one of the best Piece ever. This is thread is indeed unbeatable. Job well Done, Chips. Thank you for the RESPECT and Tribute you displayed for all these wonderful Men and Women.
Thank you so much for this post, Chips! It is so important for us as a country to honor these brave veterans — and the fact that our President has the grace and wisdom to apologize for past prejudices. This is very moving.
