President Obama Modernizes Overtime Protections

President Barack Obama signs a Presidential Memorandum directing Labor Secretary Tom Perez to modernize overtime protections. He is bypassing Congress and ordering changes in overtime rules so employers would required to pay millions more for extra time they put in on the job.

Latest on the missing plane mystery—–U.S. officials believe 2 communications systems disengaged at 2 different times—-one at l:07a.m. and one at 1:27a.m. which would seem to eliminate the possibility of a catastrophic event where everything was blown up and shut off at the same time. Info changes daily, but it looks currently like this was a deliberate act by someone in the cockpit.

Even the way Knoller phrased that makes me see green. Couldn’t we say a nice jovial outreach to another country called Ireland, from which many of our ancestors traveled, including those of many Presidents, one named Barack Obama … a country with whom we have diplomatic relations and camaraderie? These people have led such sheltered lives, always with the least common denominator at the forefront of their dumb brains!

      Is it me?

Well, well, well, Now Rev. Al is covering the missing plane with my theory. Plane safely nestled in a jungle somewhere-ransom note to follow.

    • March 13, 2014 at 6:52 pm

Pretty much the same thing Ed Shultz has been saying this week.

    • March 13, 2014 at 7:13 pm

Always good to remember that it takes more runway to take off than to land. That plane is a Boeing 777. Folk searching for it know those criteria all too well and have probably tuned their satellites to searching very specific abandon runways. And, in this situation what would have those folk most concerned is that plane becoming airborne again and headed to a variety of places for which it still has sufficient fuel to reach. Think Singapore, for instance.

      • March 13, 2014 at 7:17 pm

Caller today on Ed’s show talked about all of this and he,too, suggested Singapore?Think the guy was a longtime pilot.

        • March 13, 2014 at 7:34 pm

Singapore has been a gleam in the eye of al Qaeda for almost as long as al Qaeda has existed. If you have the time just google it and you’ll find information about a plot that was disrupted, I think in 2001, and more.

      • March 13, 2014 at 7:19 pm

and the question remains WHY!….I suppose if we find the plane we will have our why

This scenario is what I’ve been thinking since Sunday when no trail or trace had been found. I mentioned on a previous post that this reminded me of the book and movie Lost Horizon, in which a group of Brits determined to save the world’s knowledge, and having decided that destruction will come from the sky in the next war, (this was written in 1931) take a plane to the Himalayas and crash it, and trek to a lamasery to save knowledge. That’s a very ROUGH idea, but they find Shangri-La, the perfect place, but they can’t leave it.

I doubt these people are trying to save knowledge for the world, but there’s a plan behind this disappearance, and the passengers are collateral damage. Glad others are thinking this way too, so some creative hunts can be made. I bet there’s some hidden hangar somewhere camouflaging the plane right now.

This was what I thought and posted last week, too. My basis was that all communication ceased simultaneously. Creepy. Hence the safely nestled in a jungle–ransom note to follow.

In his formal invitation, Boehner noted that Francis’s ascension to the papacy and his social teachings over the past year “have prompted careful reflection and vigorous dialogue among people of all ideologies and religious views in the United States and throughout a rapidly changing world, particularly among those who champion human dignity, freedom, and social justice

This from the man who will not allow the bills on UE, Immigration and the Minimum Wage come to the floor for a vote…sometimes I have no words to describe Boehner

    • 69 Nena20409
      March 13, 2014 at 7:25 pm

      Yes. Why?

John Boehner is still a Roman Catholic. This is not for the greater good, but for his Own salvation. That is the worst kind of behavior.

Leader Pelosi will want that too for her faith and for others.

Mixing of Church and State is NOT cool…….This Roman Catholic…….is against it. JFK was made to show he would NOT be dictated to by the Vatican and Now, this is how this nation is setting all kinds of New Rules that many may just not feel so comfortable accepting.

Not to imply that Pope Francis will be coming to town to slay dragons, but this so very much reminds me of when President Obama is called “weak” … and the answer we give is “Ask bin Laden,” if they think the President is weak.

Boehner may be trying to make a big splash by inviting the Pope to speak before a joint session, dunno. I think Boehner calls himself a Catholic, but – as a Catholic – I can assure you, as we already know, he’s what we’d call a “Sunday Catholic.” If he goes to church on Sunday, he spends the rest of his time not following the tenets of Catholic social tradition relating to human dignity, justice, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, etc., as you implied in your post, during the rest of the week. Boehner’s not looking like he’s thinking of those traditions AT ALL.

So, Boehner, if you’re attempting to hide behind the papal robes of Pope Francis to even for a second imply that the Republicans in the House are their brother’s keeper, then I’d recommend you “follow” how the Pope has started to shake up his own clergy. If Boehner thinks it’s “just words” with this Pope, I’d simply say: “Ask his Cardinals.” Many of them have the deer-in-the-headlight look, already, because looks like the Pope is NOT kidding.

      Bring it on.

      • March 13, 2014 at 7:40 pm

        Bring it on…..

I think that Boehner will not be the only one who will be stunned by the words of the Pope

        • 72 jacquelineoboomer
          March 13, 2014 at 7:46 pm

Agree. You never know with this crowd, but I also don’t think any of them would have the —– to yell out “You lie!” to the Pope.

    • 73 dotster3
      March 13, 2014 at 7:39 pm

And Boehner represents a party who does not champion human dignity, social justice and has a perverted sense of “free–dom”. In any case, I want all religious activities as far away from my government as possible. In fact, I think it’s imperative—–it’s something we always have to guard against. Look around the world to see the dismal situation where religion plays a role in a country’s government.

      • 74 jacquelineoboomer
        March 13, 2014 at 7:53 pm

Understand fully what you mean. And I’d add that in our country, even our government doesn’t “play a role” in our government, during this presidency … at least as far as Republicans and DINOs in Congress are concerned, who care nothing about the people, or what the Pope has to say … from my POV, including Boehner.

And that will not change before or after a papal visit and we really must get them all the hell out of D.C.

I knew this must be coming, as the look of disdain on Boner’s mug last week when he had the blessing to be sitting to the left hand of HH Dalai Lama, and was too ill-mannered to show any sign of courtesy. I wondered how he would behave in the presence of the pope, and no doubt he will make an ass of himself, slavering, bowing and scraping, in his lame effort to show what a staunce catholic he is. Ha. He makes me nauseous. Along with CantorWont, ryan and the rest of the hypocrites.

      From smartypants…..

So what is the one thing that still unites white working class voters? Yep, you guessed it…racism.

Three out of five working-class whites believe “that discrimination against whites has become as big a problem as discrimination against blacks and other minorities.” This view is strongest in the South, at 69 percent, but it is the majority conviction of working-class whites in all regions of the country, where it is never lower than 55 percent…..

“We Don’t Owe Russia More ‘Respect’”

“Did we create a monster by humiliating Russia after the collapse of Communism? Is the answer — as advised by foreign policy “realists,” including anti-interventionist conservatives such as Sen. Rand Paul — to avoid antagonizing the Russian state, treat it with more respect, and recognize its “sphere of influence” in nearby countries? A look at the facts suggests that whatever mistakes the West may have made in the post-Cold War years, Russia’s grievances are less about actual wrongs than about paranoid insecurities and outsized imperial ambitions — a mindset Vladimir Putin harbors himself, but also deftly exploits in the Russian public to shore up his power. And rewarding these attitudes with more “respect” can only take Russia further down a road dangerous to itself and the world.

After the demise of the Soviet empire in 1991, there certainly was a widespread view that the West had won the Cold War. But it was also generally presumed to be a victory over Communism, not Russians — who were widely seen as an oppressed people newly liberated from the totalitarian yoke. In the early 1990s, the United States eagerly embraced Russia’s fledgling democracy, its new status as a partner and ally symbolized by the cordial relationship between Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin; Clinton’s first trip abroad as President, in April 1993, included a meeting with Yeltsin in Vancouver.

“Russia wasn’t even treated as an equal partner but as a favored child who was petted and given treats,” the late Elena Bonner, an icon of Soviet-era human rights activism and widow of the great physicist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, told me a few years ago, discussing an earlier round of laments about Russia’s wrongs at the hands of the West. (Then as now, the chorus of sympathy came in response to a Russian military adventure in a former Soviet republic trying to break away from its “sphere of influence” — Georgia.)”
