From the end of the last thread. What THEY don’t want to discuss but should.

Linda had an interesting post on the last thread. An amendment that forbids certain Federal tax credits on incomes over one million dollars.
    Sounds good to me.
Does anyone know more about this?
    Will it succeed?

It seems like it passed 97-0. Of course, it’ll die in the House.

I saw that but I’m not able to comment on it because this is the first time I’ve heard of the amendment. It sounds almost too good to be true, maybe the devil is in the details. And the fact that Coburn’s name is on it makes it all the more suspect.

{{{{{Don}}}}} catching up finally. If this is suspect, or loaded, or if it’s just ‘for show’, with the GOP knowing the bonerclownclub will kill it – would so many Dem Senators vote for it? If it’s just for show, could be the GOP is just trying to make a good appearance for once. I do hope it passes, as the topic has been high on priority for a long time now.

“The Ukrainian businessman arrested in Vienna this week at the request of U.S. authorities is Dmytro Firtash, Austrian government sources said on Thursday.

Firtash, 48, is one of Ukraine’s richest men, an oligarch whose close links to Russia and involvement in the gas, chemicals, media and banking sectors gave him substantial influence, notably during the administration of recently ousted, Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovich.”

“The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been investigating Mr. Firtash since 2006, and an arrest warrant had been issued for him by a federal judge in Virginia, the Austrian authorities said.”

I guess President Obama is going to go after Putin slow and methodical, death by a thousand cuts.

      • March 13, 2014 at 1:25 pm

Well Don, we both know, you should never piss-off Barack Obama ….

As Eldridge Cleaver once said, “You got to bring ass to get ass.” Putin thought that he could launch an invasion from his office without feeling the effects, oh no, it doesn’t work that way.

          • March 13, 2014 at 1:47 pm

            Sure doesn’t!!

BTW, Don. I read your comment in the previous thread and am glad Chips featured a portion of it in the R&S ‘front page.’ Of course, my understanding of the pain is limited by the fact that I’m white. But, I will share a little story with you.

During the summers – south Texas, very hot – I did commercial construction to pay a portion of my college expenses. Given my Italian heritage, by mid-summer I was very brown with very dark hair. I met a very fine young woman during one of those summers and, after several conversations via phone, asked her to have dinner.

On arriving at her quite posh digs her mom greeted me at the door – cold, hard lipped smile appearing on her face as she saw me. The young woman and I had a delightful dinner date. Subsequently, she indicated an interest in continuing to date. However, all attempts failed. Several months later, through mutual friends, I learned that her mother strictly instructed her daughter that she was not allowed to date ‘Mexicans.’

So, that’s as close to being ‘informed’ my understanding of racisim can get, but it certainly informed the empathy that I feel for all who are demeaned, and worse, because of the color of their skin.

Oh Bob, what a story, it must be incredibly hard not to be left in despair after experiences like that.

              • March 13, 2014 at 2:05 pm

It took quite awhile for me to realize the implications of the experience, Chips. Yes, I was hurt. But, over time I came to realize that my hurt was momentary; the hurt that persons of color experience permeates the fabric of their entire life. That little bit of understanding has certainly qualified my empathy, and I’m therefore grateful to have had the experience.

                • March 13, 2014 at 2:09 pm

Beautifully put, Bob. As an Irish (ex) Catholic I experienced bigotry too in my youth, which formed my views on a whole bunch of stuff later in life. That too was just a tiny glimpse for me of what experiencing racism on a daily basis must be like, but I will *never* *ever* truly understand it because I haven’t ever endured it, nor will I because of my white skin.

                • March 13, 2014 at 2:37 pm

                  Hi Bob,

I dated an Italian man who had curly hair and dark skin. He looked identical to I man I met several years before who was creole. I just assumed he was creole too. After he told me he was first generation Italian-American we had a good laugh. In the summer when he worked outside he would tan so dark he did look Hispanic and once he told me someone called him a nasty name that refers to Hispanics. He of course was not offended because he was not Hispanic but it gave him pause that someone would assume his ethnicity just because of his skin color and hair texture. I told him welcome to my world……

I see an American history teacher at the Coral Reef H.S. in Miami where both Obamas visited and where PBO spoke last week was banned from attending the speech. He is a weirdo, creepy, rabid Obama hater, all over social media AND in the classroom with his vile anti-Obama accusations and name-calling. Reports are that some of his students have asked to be transferred out of his classroom because of his constant Obama hate. I am glad he was kept away from our President and first lady. He shouldn’t be in a public school either exhibiting and teaching such rage. And-just a personal observation, and I know this is not universal, but every time I read a story about someone like this or check some nutty hater’s identifiers on twitter etc., they almost always—-like 99% of the time—-have a military background. Always troubles me.

Well, do remember that recruitment standards were severely weakened by the Bush DoD because quotas weren’t being met.

odd article. the slideshow that comes with it is 19 slides of all the different things this racist idiot sent out. seems almost like an excuse just to put those vile slides into the public under the guise of “journalism.”

Will post a heads up for PBO’s 2:20 speech in five-ish minutes
