Patti, pushing 70, still hitting the notes and strutting in high, high heels. BTW, did any of you catch the workshop this morning. Patti sang The Lord’s Prayer and brought down the house!

OMG, Patti LaBelle and I are only three weeks apart in age. She looks fabulous!!!

  5. March 6, 2014 at 8:43 pm

So, an update on the missus’ new job.

She may have fallen into something really good. She’s in training right now.

The company offers tuition assistance, pet insurance, and 401K. So they’ll help her pay to get her RN. Pretty awesome.

Once she builds up hours with them, we’re probably going to get her a new car.

Now, I ask you, who needs to (get all dressed up and) leave the house for entertainment when The Obamas are in the White House? This was GREAT!

OMG, this is wonderful! I don’t know if I can tell Mom about this. Aretha performing in her mink at the White House and looking thin & happy. What?!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ She will FREAK OUT that she missed most of it! Best just to watch the broadcast with her on Apr 7. ๐Ÿ˜€

I am SOOOOOO glad I could at least hear most of it on the way home. Peaked down at the phone a couple of times at stop lights! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for posting that. Here’s a version, for anyone like me who’d like to hear it this evening … I’ll offer it up for President Obama, as he goes about his daily work tomorrow and beyond:

Jill Scott just tickled me. I love that she was so excited to be part of such an incredible event. The Obamas know how to do it. After 8 years of country music during the Dubya years, it is good to artists like these and the others who have performed at the White House during the Obama years.
Michelle looked smashing in that top (did you see the back?). She has closed the book on First Ladies.

No surprise – but good sources and well put together
The horror of working out the best way to “get the oil” while the country was going up in flames.

Any moral authority of the US and UK went down the drain during the Bush years & PBO was given this mess to clean up. Sadly 90% of the US will never see and/or believe – and the GOP apologists no doubt think Iraq just had to let the US run their oil fields and the war would have been avoided.

    • March 6, 2014 at 9:44 pm

In conjunction with “The People’s View” article (Why Conservaties Fear Obama’s Foreign Policy” on this morning’s RIse and Shine front page, this is perfect.

A week ago, Chris Matthews did what the MSM with any ethics should be doing: showed a retired career Army Major General who pushed back on Cheney’s critism of Hagel. Of course the Koch/MSM did everything they could to omit the fact that the defense cuts were mandated by the GOP by their sequester cuts. (Posted on a previous thread.)

Who’s watching @Maddow? Were The People’s View and Donna No Shock right about why we invaded Iraq?

I saw the teaser earlier this week that showed Ron Suskind saying that plans were being made to invade Iraq in January 2001, mere days after GWB took the oath of office in a SCOTUS-rigged election.

Really wish we had a media not controlled by Koch. Americans need to be informed of these facts.

๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t know where the thought came from, ๐Ÿ˜€ but I’m sure it’s WH evenings like this that makes those who are not in the Obama ‘in’ crowd feel jealous (Cornell and Tweety and Mitchell, etc. etc. came to mind). On a night like this I feel for them…..not really. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi, TS, I sure hope so! The intense meet-the-deadline stuff is over, but regular stuff decided to kick up the pace – at least for the past 6 business day. I have next week off for sure though, so I’m in a terrific mood. ๐Ÿ˜€

I had a few streaming difficulties, mostly audio, but I reckon I saw some sorry-assed GOP there, having a fantastic time!? I know of all people in this world, POTUS and FLOTUS welcome all, but these hypocrites are too much for me, and I wish they would just show some honesty and purpose to all their nastiness and just stay away. The show, what I could see and hear, looked sublime!

    • March 6, 2014 at 9:25 pm

I had audio and buffering problems at wh.gov but then I switched to Chips youtube at the top of the post and it was perfect.

Interesting, meta, it was the opposite for me, on either iPad or MacBook! I had to shut down TOD to get a good stream, but I’m here now! Checking out the YouTubes for what I missed!

It was so cool that the performers wanted to sit in the audience and enjoy the show from that vantage point when they were not on stage. Every time the camera focused on one of them they were just as caught up in the performances as any other audience member.

Wow, that was the greatest. My sound keep going in and out too. Oh well, we will hear it sharp in April. Sure love my some Aretha, Patti and Melissa. The others were great too, but they can’t touch those 3.

Now to catch up on 2 days of reading. I am way behind. Been too busy.

Everyone was good. I always enjoy when POTUS and FLOTUS have these events. And I think POTUS and FLOTUS enjoy themselves too. When the Queen closed the show, it felt like church. Everything was enjoyable. I think I will check this out on PBS when it airs.

    A couple of #Ukraine updates…

This has been a whirlwind week, but I agree with Japa21 from earlier today… it really feels like the very tense situation has been defused.

Remarkable restraint by the Ukrainians — if the US were invaded by another country’s military, restraint would not be a word that could be used to describe our reaction.

I love how calmly President Obama has handled this volatile situation.

I also love the Pete Souza photo of our President talking on the phone with Putin over the weekend. It’s hysterical that David Cameron’s tweet of similarly serious leader has been totally mocked on twitter. Can’t see the same thing happening with President Obama — he truly looked like he meant business (and cut a dashing figure in his casual wear (note: most male world leaders prefer business attire because the jackets hide their paunches).

    • March 6, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Nena: If you’re still hanging out, here’s an article from 2008 about the Russian invasion of Georgia.

which could be applied to today’s invasion of Ukraine… (from this article):

“The war in Georgia, therefore, is Russia’s public return to great power status. This is not something that just happened — it has been unfolding ever since Putin took power, and with growing intensity in the past five years. Part of it has to do with the increase of Russian power, but a great deal of it has to do with the fact that the Middle Eastern wars have left the United States off-balance and short on resources. As we have written, this conflict created a window of opportunity. The Russian goal is to use that window to assert a new reality throughout the region while the Americans are tied down elsewhere and dependent on the Russians. The war was far from a surprise; it has been building for months. But the geopolitical foundations of the war have been building since 1992. Russia has been an empire for centuries. The last 15 years or so were not the new reality, but simply an aberration that would be rectified. And now it is being rectified.”
