Senate defeats Obama nominee tied to Mumia case
Democrats said Adegbile only got involved in the Abu-Jamal case in 2006 – 25 years after Faulkner’s murder, and five years after the death penalty was first thrown out. He supervised a team of lawyers and signed briefs arguing against the death penalty as the sentencing fight continued into 2011

      ***********************
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumia_Abu-Jamal

The Police…the Phila DA. Seth Williams..Sen Casey…along with the widow of Daniel Faulker organized to block Mr Adelgbile…because he was an attorney for the defense of Mr Jamal….

Seth Williams went so far as to say…that by working of Jamal’s defense…it showed that he was not quality to be in the Justice Department…

      *****************************

When Mumia Abu Jamal was arrested..this was a time of heighten animosity between the Blk Community and Police department…many charges of police brutality were levied against the police….

Speaking of the four walls, I’m almost done my winter graffiti art project. It’s quite the statement, all about winter in Illinois. There’s an “endless supply of paint” in the winter, turns out. Can’t wait until the family sees it.

Ha. Now ya made me laugh. In the effing snow “shower.” I’ll probably start singing some hysterical tune next.

Mine paid 2 cents/pound for picking beans. It made me appreciate the skill and stamina of migrant workers and inspired me to take on my first effort to lobby state legislators on better sanitation for field workers, especially women. Of course, it helped that the State Representative I talked to was my dad.

“There’s a place where the United States and Russia are still getting along swimmingly: About 250 miles above the surface of the Earth, where three Russians, two Americans and an astronaut from Japan are aboard the international space station. “Everything is nominal right now with our relationship with the Russians,” said NASA administrator Charles Bolden during a teleconference Tuesday.

Tuesday’s teleconference was set up to allow Bolden to discuss the White House’s Fiscal Year 2015 budget request, but he wound up fielding numerous inquiries from reporters about whether the Ukraine crisis has affected NASA’s strategic planning. No, Bolden said repeatedly. He noted that past flare-ups between the U.S. and Russia have not affected operations in space. “We have weathered the storm through lots of contingencies here,” Bolden said. He told a personal story: In 1994 he commanded the first joint U.S.-Russia space shuttle mission. He said that, “because of my training as a Marine,” he wasn’t entirely comfortable at first with the idea of teaming up with the Russians, but then during the planning stages for the mission he got to know Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev and his Russian backup….”

Bahahahahaha. Catholics? It’s that time again.

    • 114 jacquelineoboomer
      March 5, 2014 at 4:19 pm

Ha! Catholics used to refrain from eating meat on Fridays, and offer it up, kind of like having Lent come to visit every week. (When I was a pre-teen, I once had a hot dog in my mouth on a Friday, before I remembered the day of the week, and actually spit it out, the little goodie-goodie Catholic school girl I was. Pretty sure that made my hit parade of sins I confessed to the priest after that, back in the day when you actually had to make up something because yer presentable list was so short the priest would think you were lyin’.)

When the Church relaxed that rule, I saw a great cartoon about hell. One devil was saying to the other devil in hell, “What are we going to do with all these Catholics who ate meat on Friday?”

^^^This might only appeal as humorous to old-timey Catholics! #DidThatStopMeIThinkNot

Love this. One of hubby’s (raised, school Catholic) favorite stories is how he and his brother and some buddies who were not Catholic went for a hike one beautiful warm Friday. They hiked all the way up our little mountain and practically into the backyard of a schoolmate whose father was grilling steaks for dinner. They were all invited to stay and partake. Hubby says he and his brother wrestled with their conscience but it did not win … they ate the meat!

        • 116 jacquelineoboomer
          March 5, 2014 at 5:28 pm

Love all those stories, myself! Hey, at least we tried! He would have been forgiven, anyway, for “sustenance” purposes. 🙂

I’ve always said that Catholic school (way back when I went, K-12) was where I developed my sense of humor. You had to have a sense of humor! I’d bet your husband agrees, no matter what the decade was when he attended.

        March 5, 2014 at 5:53 pm

This must be true of millions of us, JO’B! We had to make stuff up (lie) to be unworthy enough to go to confession, then placate the guilt of lying all week, while waiting for the next confession?! How can that possibly be emotionally healthy for any kid?? It’s like they got us either way, and no matter what we did or didn’t do, we were guilty little sinners!! Hope LL includes this derangement in his next essay on The RCC!
