Russian TV anchor is sent to Crimea by her bosses after she says the country’s behavior in Ukraine is ‘wrong’ during live broadcast

Will be interesting to see what Ms Martin has to say once she’s in Crimea …

Everyone here, of course, knows that RT is funded by the Kremlin.

PBO and team are firing on all cylinders today. Kerry in Kiev, Obama addressing budget and speaking on Russia, and the economic team presenting details of budget during today’s press conference. The right will have difficulty on what to attack today. The President is the only one in Washington who is actually working.

We are currently on the cusp of developing an alternative to the two-state domination we saw during the Cold War and the unipolar dream of the neo-cons. What is possible is what some have called a multipolar world that President Obama described this way during his 2009 speech in Cairo.
Getting there will require us to reject the right wing’s efforts to suggest this represents “weakness” and the left wing’s knee-jerk assumptions about sinister motives.

Perfect comment, PF. Change we can believe in is happening in the world under the very noses of the Republicans and the media and they are too blind to see it. The Cold War–Us vs Them–mentality suited these backward political and communications institutions to a tee because it was all about win or lose between two opponents. It takes a more subtle and mature mind to understand what a multi-polar world means and to act in it. President Obama is too far over their heads for them to understand what’s going on. All they can do is look at the old game, see he’s not playing it and criticize him. Even though PBO has long since left the old stuff behind, its the only thing the media and the GOP know, so they think he’s being incompetent when he’s actually being brilliant.

As an undergraduate at the height of the cold war in the 60s, I was a political science major specializing in international relations. In one of my classes as a project I constructed an alternative model of international relations moving from a bipolar world to a multipolar world. At this stage we finally have a president who is acting on that model and using it to promote peace in our world. GWB was a neocon who saw the world was a unipolar US dominated reality where invasions and regime change could be undertaken with impunity. Didn’t work out so well. The U.S. is not a world dictator, nor should it be. PBO is really moving us toward legitimizing and acting within a new pattern of multi polar collaboration.

      • March 4, 2014 at 2:38 pm

You were well ahead of your time, Bill!!!

And – “PBO is really moving us toward legitimizing and acting within a new pattern of multi polar collaboration.”

Precisely and that is what is driving the #NEOCONSTERS nuts.

It could not be more fitting or timely that he has both Bibi and Putin’s misbehavior in plain view, in the same week, for the entire international community to see, and for that same community to be witnessing him lead the world in an entirely new direction.

I see this as providing Putin with an out and giving him time to act sanely. If he doesn’t take it, then the clamps will be put on.

After that ‘press conference’ he held today, as I noted in the previous thread:

“That press conference should have scared the poop out of everyone. You’ve got a delusional megalomaniac (think John McCain) with his finger on the nuke button. Until we see unimpeachable evidence that Vlad has put his troops in their barracks and gotten his butt into serious bilateral discussions with Ukraine’s leadership and the International Community, we have zero reasons to be relieved.”

Yep, JOB, because before the ‘modern’ rotary dial, you picked up the phone (always black) and the operator put through the number you wanted. The operator also called the police or firefighters and looked up numbers for you.

I don’t think I remember the operator’s placing the call … think we had the rotary dial. But who knows!

Followed, of course, by the pink “Princess” phones!

    THIS is heart wrenching!!!!!

“Washington is wrangling with whether to extend long-term unemployment benefits, which ran out in North Carolina in July and in the other 49 states in late December as discussed in Monday’s Outlook column. But the financial pressures facing many Americans are much more complex than the Washington debate. The Wall Street Journal contacted a number of unemployed workers who are trying to sell things on Craigslist. Here are some of their stories.”

“But as a matter of movement-building, the repeated refusal to recognize us for the electoral force that we are leaves us feeling disconnected from an organization that relies on us to deliver reproductive rights victories, but rarely gives us credit for doing so”. So where is our recognition? Where is the campaign strategy that centers our concerns? Where is the voter education model that emphasizes the unique importance to women of color of issues beyond abortion and birth control? Where are the NARAL Pro-Choice America candidate score cards that include candidates’ positions on, for example, voter ID laws?

The Washington, D.C. City Council on Tuesday passed a bill that would decriminalize marijuana possession in small amounts by a 10-to-1 vote, according to NBC Washington.

The measure replaces penalties for possessing up to one ounce of marijuana with a $25 fine. It also maintains penalties for smoking pot in public, even though an earlier version of the bill removed those penalties as well, according to NBC.

A recent study conducted by a coupons website (yes, a coupons website) found that 11 percent of Americans thought HTML was a sexually transmitted disease, according to The Los Angeles Times. So let’s be clear. HTML, also known as hypertext markup language, is not an STD. It is a standardized markup language used to create web pages.

The study, conducted by Vouchercloud.net and involving 2,392 adult participants, also found that 77 percent of respondents could not identify what SEO (search-engine optimization) means, 27 percent of respondents thought a gigabyte was an insect found in South America, and 15 percent thought “software” was comfortable clothing.

From international crisis, to domestic financial proposals (budget) to elementary school kids and all of the million and one daily duties that are not reported, to being a loving, supportive husband and involved father of teenage girls, all in one day, whew! How does PBO manage all of this with energy, grace, humor and heart? Everyday I feel so blessed that he is president, especially after the long nightmare of the Dubya years.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas House has voted to continue the state’s compromise Medicaid expansion, sending the governor legislation that will keep alive a program that’s extended health coverage to nearly 94,000 people.

The House voted 76-24 Tuesday to reauthorize funding for the “private option” program that uses federal Medicaid funds to purchase private insurance for low-income residents. Arkansas was the first state to win federal approval for such a model, an alternative to expanding Medicaid under the federal health care law.
