The Day’s Must-Read:
Michael Cohen: Don’t listen to Obama’s Ukraine critics: he’s not ‘losing’ – and it’s not his fight
The ‘do something’ pundits rear their heads. Just like they did on Iraq, Afghanistan and every other crisis of US ‘credibility’
In the days since Vladimir Putin sent Russian troops into the Crimea, it has been amateur hour back in Washington.
I don’t mean Barack Obama. He’s doing pretty much everything he can, with what are a very limited set of policy options at his disposal. No, I’m talking about the people who won’t stop weighing in on Obama’s lack of “action” in the Ukraine. Indeed, the sea of foreign policy punditry – already shark-infested – has reached new lows in fear-mongering, exaggerated doom-saying and a stunning inability to place global events in any rational historical context.
This would be a useful moment for Americans to have informed reporters, scholars and leaders explaining a crisis rapidly unfolding half a world away. Instead, we’ve already got all the usual suspect arguments….

let me try
Congrats on 1st nospin. Good to see ya!!
Thanks Donna Dem. Been very busy but whenever I get a chance to peek into TOD, I do.
Nospin!!!!
Hey Chips Chica – how is your not so little guy?
He’s a bit stressed at the moment Nospin, he stole a lemon from the kitchen, dashed in to the garden with it, bit it, freaked, and spent the next 30 minutes barking at it. It’s hard being a puppy.
Poor fella!! How’s your mother doing, Chips. Hope she’s feeling better and more confident every day.
I missed the post about your Mom. I wish her well Chips.
lololol awwhhh… I bet Danny is having the time of his life and wouldn’t put it past him to snag another lemon expecting to have a different result. hahahaha. 😀
LOVE this story!!
How are you, Chips? Seems like an eon since I’ve seen you. LOLz. And Mum Chips is all fixed, I hope?
/frowning/ FTR, Chips Chica, my doggie-nephew did NOT steal a lemon, and I resent your saying he did. This is one way rumours get started. You cannot steal what belongs to you, and everything in that house that belongs to his mother, is his! DO be careful what you say about Danny-O, or we may have to take you to court for libel.
Yo, Danny-O, think what we could do with the money won! 😀 😀 Let me know if she does this defamation thingy again. We could be rich -ish!
😆
Hi, MP! Good to see you. I’ve had little time to call my own in the last week or so to chat. Now that I’ve finished the project I was completing for a friend, I got called in to work this entire week (which was supposed to be my personal catch-up-with-TOD time -grrrrr!)
Yeah! I did it. Now off to read all the goodies.
Sh*t just got real.
It sure did. Our terrible media is busy questioning our President’s leadership while he is just quietly going about the business of kicking Putin’s butt.
Donna, that needs to be put in a tweet. You said it best!!!!
I tweeted that from you: DD4O
Hey Nerdy. You have an incredible gift of getting to the root and summing things up. 😀 Yes it did.
WHOA
nospin, I know my beautiful and loving TOD family would be having their coffee, tea, glass of red, or white wine blowing up their keyboards if I had just written exactly what our great Nerdy just wrote, but I when I read that tweet, I said out loud the exact words expressed so elegantly by our loving Nerdy W. Yes, HZ can express with full force the loving load of delicious and very bright words to describe the brilliant man’s action that we so wonderfully elected twice. POB does not play with these fools. Maybe one day they will learn. Thanks for saving a lot of keyboards tonight, Nerdy W. {{{{{{{{{{{{{ Nerdy W., I love you}}}}}}}}}}}}HZ
Hi HZ – I hope today finds you in great spirits and great health.
{{{{{{{{ TY, nospin.}}}}}}}}}. I am in a constant meditative space of trying to keep my nerves at a calm display as I go into the evening preparing for the three hour dental procedure, nospin. You know how the elements of doubt, fear, and anxiousness all will try to creep into the space that is being created to get me through tomorrow by a power that is one of wholeness and steadiness. I am keeping lovely music, beautiful candles, and much prayer in my space this evening.
Thank you so much for asking, nospin. You all are so supportive and so loving, and I am so grateful. Please remember me in your thoughts tomorrow. I am asking for wisdom, strength, and to be grateful for a great dentist and his staff. It is all in my space., but my loving brother spoke with me yesterday with such loving calmness concerning my mood. He has a calming spirit that I so love.
I hope all is fine with you and your family. Be gentle in your space as well and take good care to pamper yourself and enjoy your space.HZ
HZ……I will certainly keep you in my thoughts tomorrow as you go through your dental work. I had extensive dental (gum) work done about three years ago. I was not put to sleep for the procedures, but he of course gave me great numbing and pain meds, and interestingly put a towel over my eyes. He said it was so that nothing dropped on my face, and that was good, but I found that with the towel over my eyes, then closing my eyes, I was able to keep a distance, as you say, keep a space around me that protected me somehow. I recommend the towel covering the eyes. You can be alone and away under that covering.
Blessings on you and take care of yourself afterwards. Dental work affects our entire bodily system.
HZ I hope your dental surgery went well and you are recovering fast. Take care, Carol
I hope all of you express your gratitude to Ambassador Power. Her leadership at the UN Security Council is simply stunning.
Thank you Donna!!

AS DELIVERED
Thank you, Madam President. In response to my Russian colleague’s comments, I’d just like to make a couple points. First, I’d like to address his point about to the legitimacy of President Yanukovych, and his point about the February 21 agreement, which he has made several times.
To be clear, we commend the work done by France, Germany, and Poland to mediate and to negotiate that agreement with Russia very much in observance, and we would have been prepared to support the completion of that agreement. Under its terms, President Yanukovych had 24 hours to sign the first piece of action pursued in the Rada – the changing of the constitution pursuant to the February 21 agreement. Not only did President Yanukovych not sign it, but as my Russian colleague reminds us, he left the city. Indeed, he fled the city; he packed up himself and his family, and he left the seat of the presidency vacant for two days while his country was in crisis. He also left vast evidence of corruption, vast evidence of the amounts that he had stolen from the Ukrainian people, and in that context, with 371 votes, the democratically-elected Rada voted Yanukovych out of office, with his own party turning against him. That’s the history.
But to the present, what we’ve heard today, is – with the exception of one member of the Security Council, the Russian Federation – we have heard overwhelming support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for peaceful dialogue. There are so many options available to Russia to safeguard the rights of ethnic Russians and to address the concerns that have been raised, so many options short of military action. So the very simple questions for Russia today are: Why not support international mediation? Why isn’t that part of your remarks today? Why not support an observer mission? Why not engage directly with the Ukrainian authorities who want to resolve this crisis peacefully? Why not pull back your forces instead of sending more? Why not? When military intervention, in the face of a crisis like this, is the first resort, it is hard to avoid concluding that Russia does not want peace and does not want a diplomatic solution. Why choose military action when the consequences could be devastating? Only someone who fears the truth would be fearful of monitors who are deployed for the specific purpose of identifying and reporting the truth. That is all, Madam President.
that is all, indeed!

Well, we’ll know in about 90 minutes.
Yep … that’s now 75 min and counting …
Fascinating. Although I wouldn’t necessarily say the first entry is true, I could see Putin doing just that. Although, by now it may be a little too late.
Interesting aspect of that first entry, John, is that at the UNSC today Ukrainian UN Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev explicitly confronted Churkin with that claim – that black ops dudes would kill some Russian soldiers to spark a wider confrontation by providing Putin with a justification.
BTW, Yuriy Sergeyev, is a very talented and witty guy – and he smoothly transitioned from English, to French, to Russian throughout his various comments at the UNSC and showed nothing be contempt for Churkin while looking him in the eye and smiling at him.
And having that out in the open would make any such move by Putin immediately suspect.
Exactly. And, it could not be more ‘in the open’ as every member of the UNSC heard him, loud and clear, on that issue and many others. If you have the opportunity to watch that meeting (I was only able to see a portion of it between conf calls) definitely watch. What I saw was Churkin lying and hallucinating in front of remarkably cogent, unflinching diplomats.

I heard he had an outstanding performance. Good night all.
Roberta in Mn, I hope you will be able to get some restful sleep tonight. Try some relaxing and comforting tea and enjoy your evening.HZ
American media is in the toilet.
That explains a lot.
Does that mean weasel is an incompetent voter?
Wow, Weigel has voted 4 whole times. For people like competent “seeming” Romney. It doesn’t get more pathetic than that.
Here’s another example of his amateurish analysis:
Actually, I always thought PBO said terrorism was the biggest threat, not specifically Al Qaeda.
I cannot handle reading the armchair b.s. that comes from those who understand nothing
I am with you, 99ts! This two-bit journalist, who only started voting in 2000, thinks that he is smarter, and knows more about international affairs than the President of the United States.
You reading late as usual nath? We be 2 of a kind 🙂
I’ve got to ignore the pundits – they are GOP attack dogs
Oh PLEASE. What a moron. Now I remember why I unfollowed him way back. DRIVEL.
stupidity abounds
Exactly my thoughts meta – he should not have disclosed that if he wants to remain relevant in any political discussion
oh my god, had no idea weigel is such a maroon. here’s just the tip of the iceberg on the “competent-seeming:”

remember how he was such a laughingstock leading up the london olympics that london’s (conservative) mayor boris johnson was openly mocking rmoney AT HIS WELCOME SPEECH TO THE WORLD?!? yea dave, would’ve made a great president. too bad for you president obama kicked his ass.
WTF does he mean by “competent-seeming…..”? These so called U.S. journalists are totally useless.

U.S. suspends trade, investment talks with Russia over Ukraine
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ukraine-russia-crisis-20140303,0,4752010.story
The United States has put trade and investment talks with Russia on hold as a rebuke for Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, a U.S. official said on Monday.
“We have suspended upcoming bilateral trade and investment engagement with the government of Russia that were part of a move toward deeper commercial and trade ties,” a spokesman for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said.
President Obama said Russia has violated international law in its military intervention in Ukraine and said the U.S. government has warned it will look at a series of economic and diplomatic sanctions that would isolate Moscow.
Good evening TOD family,
I do hope that everyone is having a pleasant evening. Walked through the doors turned on the TV for updates; should have known better.
Hoodrats repukes dancing across the networks blaming President Obama because he has to think things over; Putin says something and he does it immediately, so says Giuliani.
Well, Giuliani…..if I could put the pointed toe of my heels in the part of your behind where the sun doesn’t shine, I can assure you, you would never walk again or do anything else with that part of your anatomy. These guys act as though they are ready to eat Putin’s poop. What is wrong with the President “thinking things through” first? It tells me; this is what a “GREAT LEADER” is suppose to do-look at all of the outcomes.
These hoodrats repukes are nothing more than war mongering murderers, and I wish that they would go and fight or send their own kids to fight. They are always siding with the opposition against President Obama; parading on TV trying to embarrass him, Snowden is their hero and Putin poop is their God. I say; pack up your ____, and get the hell out of here and go where your heart is at…….see you, don’t want to be you.
Okay….I am sorry, had to get it out of my system. I just get upset, no matter what President Obama is doing, these haters are always out there trying to start a fire.
Excellent.
He should be in Sevastopol ….
Cindy, I am so sick of Giuiani’s sorry ass. The only good that comes out of his speaking is he’s wrong on everything and everybody.
You can sure as hell bet if he is speaking on behalf of anyone, they will lose.
Hey LDS,
Sorry it is. What has he done, that makes him an authority over what President Obama knows? Now, Dr. Maddow is replaying his comments. She is going to talk about how the repukes are siding with Russia. They all need to just go and live there and tell the poop how to run his country and see how much voice they have.
I am just sick of their lies and hate for this President.
As Lawrence just said – Giuliani stopped defending Chris Christie to praise Vladimir Putin – that is the man
Hey 99ts,
He is the epitome of what ignorance speaks and looks like.
You forgot stooopiidd !!!!!
We need to set these pundiots straight.
The pigtails are a dead giveaway.
The death of journalism is going to be the ruin of this country.
Excellent response !
Thanks so much!
Okay, I am not given to bragging. Well, maybe a little. I know Ellen Degeneres made history with her selfie tweet being the most retweeted tweet in history. However, I sent out this tweet yesterday and it is by far the most retweeted tweet I have ever sent. And it is still being retweeted. And I think we will discover over the next couple days how true it is.
WOW, japa21!! That’s amazing. I know I RT’d it, too. Congrats, you struck a nerve.
I love your tweet, Japa.
The amazing thing is I haven’t had one negative response to this.
Waaayyyy to go, J! 😆
WOW – that’s fantastic japa. Congrats! It was an excellent tweet. I’ve taken some of it to craft a few of my own tweets 🙂
Feel free. People are sending me other examples of their selling PBO short.
added my re-tweet to your very impressive total haul
Go ahead and brag. Your tweet is a beauty! I hope it’s retweeted over and over again, because it tells the Truth that our useless media choses to ignore.
Seems to me that Rachel’s researchers have been reading TOD today
Thursday night at 9pm Rachel Maddow will tell us Why Bush and the same folks who are criticizing President Obama right now, why they lied us into an unnecessary horrible war in Iraq. I want to see that.
Uhm … he sure looks like the future President Biden in that shot and role.
Yep.
Hmmmmmm…….
4 Reasons Putin Is Already Losing in Ukraine
As Russia’s Ukraine power play reaches boiling point in Crimea, there are clear signs a Russian invasion may be a disaster for its architect, President Vladimir Putin
http://world.time.com/2014/03/03/putin-ukraine-crimea-russia/#ixzz2uxRzwIkc
For starters:
“At home, this intervention looks to be the one of the most unpopular decisions Putin has ever made. The Kremlin’s own pollster released a survey on Monday that showed 73% of Russians reject it. In phrasing its question posed in early February to 1600 respondents across the country, the state-funded sociologists at WCIOM were clearly trying to get as much support for the intervention as possible: “Should Russia react to the overthrow of the legally elected authorities in Ukraine?” they asked. Only 15% said yes – hardly a national consensus.”
….
Please proceed #TzarVlado
#TrustBarack … or GET ROLLED ….
As spoken by the pundits – who stupidly think it shows strength – Putin acts first & then looks at the consequences. The US saw the impact of this after 9/11 – how quickly those who praise Putin forget the most recent of history.
Yep.
When you agree with me I see my level of understanding lifted to another level – thank you for being here Bob 🙂
That’s very generous of you, 99. Happy to help any way I can. 🙂
Just truthful Bob – (unlike the pundits) – I really really wish I didn’t have to understand this – but your posts are a major assistance.
My forebears fought in the Battle of Inkerman – 1854 in the Crimean War of that time – I knew about it – but never really studied it. For better or worse, the history and geography of the region is now infiltrating my brain.
Well said, 99ts!
Putin looks like a Statesman? He is running circles around the President? Putin is schooling President Obama? Putin is teaching the President how to be a leader? Dr. Maddow just played these comments from Graham, Rubio and others.
These clowns have thrown their own country under the bus, this is a sad state of affairs; crazy _______ have no business serving this country in any capacity.
I am going to send letters to these hateful _____ and tell them to pack up, and take up, their residency and citizenship in Russia.
Please do, Cindy. And if you have any trouble (which you won’t) filling in those blanks, please call on me.
Hey jacquelineoboomer,
No, I don’t have any problems filling in the blanks : ) just wanted to be respectful. My blood has hit the boiling point, so I have some real good words for those blanks. This crap has pissed me off, and they are going to hear from me.
I’m with you!
What we all need to try to do is to continue what we’re doing. Pay attention to those we trust who are getting the word out, and pass it along to others. And keep letting our President and Vice President and those in the administration – who are stepping up on our behalf – know that we have their backs.
I’ve decided to stop listening to pundits and political hacks, who mean nothing in the grand scheme. None of them have an ounce of experience being President. None of them will ever be President Barack Obama.
But I definitely believe in calling all of them out, whenever I hear they are using the same old crap arguments, lies, and slanderous remarks. Go for it!
JOB, this is wise advice. Stop listening to pundits and trust in our president. I got burned out today with all the ugly, treasonous statements coming from the media and the GOP and had to pull back for my own mental and physical health. Every single time the treasonous GOP and their media lackeys go into a “hair on fire,” blame Obama mode, they are shamed and silenced within a week or two. The world is responding beautifully to the US calls for collaborative sanctions and pressure on Putin and this is what will make the difference in time. Every pundit and GOP moron shooting of his/her mouth today share one thing in common. They know nothing and have zero power.
^^^ THIS. Every freakin’ WORD!
I have to keep reminding myself that all of it is a purposeful distraction, so we’ll forget to register, get others to register, donate, and follow the bouncing ball to Nov 2014! Will try to keep my eye on that very same ball … no matter how much angst I feel, too, over all the vitriol.
We’ve got the finest President we could have, at present, and we need to be strengthened by that, individually and collectively.
Think I’ll try to go back to remembering: No one can steal our joy. Unless we let them.
Thank you Jackie G for saying so well everything I feel and believe!
“I’ve decided to stop listening to pundits and political hacks, who mean nothing in the grand scheme. None of them have an ounce of experience being President. None of them will ever be President Barack Obama.”
I share your sentiments, JOB! By the way Dana Milbank exactly confessed what was going to happen. So no surprise there. For me, opinions of imbeciles in the media, like Chuck Todd and David Gregory, mean zero to me.
And I share your expressed sentiments, too, nath!
The TeaGop calls PBO a Marxist, Communist, Maoist, etc., but their new hero and future TeaGop candidate for president is a Marxist, Communist, Maoist for real…..Pooty Poot.
Hi 0388jojothecat,
They are just showing their real color. They will side with anyone, who they believe, will take it to the President.
There was Romney, then their “great white hope” Christie cream, and now it’s the Poop. They will eat and smell the mess of anyone, who they think, can bring this President down. We know what they are because their ___ stanks (error on purpose).
Cindy it just shows you how much these crazy ass Republicans hate this black President. If they think Putin is so darn great then why don’t they take their racists ass over there to stay with Putin. These Republicans will side with anyone against this President. Because all they are doing is playing politics, putting politics over their country.
The lying bastards who always talking about God Bless America. We love our country, we salute the great flag of the U.S.
Hi anniebella,
Yes, your words are golden and truthful. It’s time for; “we the people” to get angry and called these racists ______ out. They have no business serving this country. Hell, President Obama didn’t invade anyone’s country. George Bush did……this is Putin poop call and the President is doing what is right.
These same racist ____ calls President Obama un-American, and they get out there on national TV and blame him for the problems of this bag of wind Putin created.
Where the hell are the Democrats to defend these lies?
Congrats to SOS Kerry on the new addition to his family 🙂
LOLz
LOLz x2
SWEET
Here’s another Dem – they must’ve read your tweet!
Yes, I’m the center of everybody’s universe – Ha!
Thanks for sharing – I’m off to R/T that!
Bobfr, thanks for your sharing of the abundance of your knowledge on the situation taking place now. I am so appreciative of the brilliant comments, information, tweets, and letters that you also write to POB and the many hardworking people in his administration. Thank you so much, Bobfr.
Chips has truly made this a wonderful and brilliant place to share knowledge on the issues and to collectively support our president. May we continue to follow you lead, Bobfr and be encourage to move FORWARD with our great POTUS. HZ
HZ – you echo my thoughts in every way
Dear HZ, those are very touching comments and I’m very appreciative of them. Thank you. You are such a generous spirit.
And, thank you, 99!
Pundits on Lawrence still attacking anything PBO does – not offering any ideas of their own . They also seem to be talking up the pipe line and gas exports – the whole problem is too many people rely on such from Russia/Ukraine.
GOP/Pundits will do and say ANYTHING to get their internal demands
99, what those dudes don’t get is this ….
I tried to make it as simple as I possibly could. Those ‘pipelines’ are ‘two way’ – one direction, gas; the other direction, CASH. What #TzarVlado has done over the past 96 hours is catalyze a whole bunch of folk to begin seeking alternative sources (of which, several exist). Russia makes nothing worth purchasing. Without CASH FOR GAS they don’t have squat of an economy. The world’s markets reminded them of that fact today, and I guarantee if they don’t stop with their acts of war, they’re going to regret it for decades even if a single shot isn’t fired.
BWD @theonlyadult 6m
The GOP and their media tools are trying to get into @BarackObama’s head. If he won’t let them, he’ll win like always.

Trying to catch up. Not easily going to happen.
Fewer crop species are feeding the world than 50 years ago – raising concerns about the resilience of the global food system, a study has shown.
The authors warned a loss of diversity meant more people were dependent on key crops, leaving them more exposed to harvest failures.
Higher consumption of energy-dense crops could also contribute to a global rise in heart disease and diabetes, they added.
The findings appear in PNAS journal.
“Over the past 50 years, we are seeing that diets around the world are changing and they are becoming more similar – what we call the ‘globalised diet’,” co-author Colin Khoury, a scientist from the Colombia-based International Center for Tropical Agriculture, explained.
“This diet is composed of big, major cops such as wheat, rice, potatoes and sugar.
“It also includes crops that were not important 50 years ago but have become very important now, particularly oil crops like soybean,” he told BBC News.
While wheat has long been a staple crop, it is now a key food in more than 97% of countries listed in UN data, the study showed.
