Peter Nyong’o embraces sister Lupita Nyong’o after she wins the award for best actress in a supporting role for “12 Years a Slave”
Lupita Nyong’o, best supporting actress winner for her role in “12 years a Slave,” hugs the movie’s director Steve McQueen as actress Angelina Jolie and co-star and producer Brad Pitt look on at the 86th Academy Awards
What an amazing young woman! I really must go see her in “12 Years A Slave.” I had hesitated because I already saw an excellent film, based on the remarkable autobiography of Solomon Northup, which was done in the 80s, titled: “Half Free and Half Slave: the Odyssey of Solomon Northup.” Time for genealogists to try to find out if Lupita Nyongo and President Obama may be related.
welp her speech managed to make me cry and I’m not even watching the Oscars, nor have I seen the movie yet… what a lovely woman. Thanks for all the postings on the Oscars and for spotlighting this amazing beauty.. what I DO miss about not having teevee.
Same here. I haven’t seen any of the movies nominated (don’t go to movies often) so I’m not usually ‘that’ into the Oscars, but this year–lovin’ it, lovin’ it……..every minute.
LOL! I’m actually surprised that this was STILL the most retweeted – after almost 2 yrs! Well, congrats to Ellen and all those who made the “selfie” possible! 🙂
No Ellen didn’t. The 2012 Iowa twitpic was Not engineered. It was not done to entice the Twitter Machine. Ellen used a Worldwide Oscar show to generate a manufactured ratings driven scheme.
I mean seriously what on earth did he think was going to happen with this invasion? Did he really think that the world was just gonna shrug their shoulders at his aggression???
When Angela Merkel, a clear-eyed realist says that about a person…….it must be so. She’s close to him, and knows what the old Soviets were like. And yes, I think he did think he could march into Crimea and invade with impunity. He is the complete megalomaniac, and this is how they think and operate. Boundaries and sovereignty mean nothing to him when he wants something.
Frankly, he, and the world should’ve gotten a clue when PBO did not send anyone in his family or cabinet or official staff to lead the delegation to Sochi. But, subtlety is beyond Pooty. Other people also don’t understand PBO…..I’m thinking that’s a good thing.
Putin must have been spending way too much time watching/reading US RW/MSM/Libertarian propaganda about how “weak” PBO is and he probably believed that crappy Forbes article claiming that he was the most powerful person in the world, with PBO coming in 2nd….
He needs to learn a lesson on reality like those FOX News and other Right-wing media fans
Loving the diversity of this year’s Oscar, from Lupita tot he director of Gravity giving part of his speech in Spanish, to the Lopezs who wrote the Oscar-winning song “Frozen” and so much more. After 70 years of the Oscars and over 100 years of cinema, the industry is finally looking more like rhw real America and the world.
Diversity is at the heart of how she’ll make her mark at the academy. “I am active in our member engagement and am seeking diverse talent domestically as well as internationally,” said Isaacs..

Gravity was some sort of technological breakthrough according to the NPR predictions so that is probably why they won a lot of those awards. 12 Years A Slave was still favored to win. Mathew and Cate were favored too so the predictions came true.
What is the story behind Brad Pitt being one of the producers for 12 Years a Slave?
So glad that the director gave a clear shout out to the writer who worked to preserve Northrup’s story. She had a life-long fascination with it.
12 Years a Slave would never have been made without Brad Pitt. It was his production company, Plan B that financed the film when major Hollywood studios turned their back on the project. So without him, there would not be an Oscar winning best picture called 12YAS.
Fabulous!! So proud!
me?
Huzzah!

Thank you for showing her awesome acceptance speech…it was truly phenomenal….
Wow.
Congratulation to Miss Lupita Nyong’o.
If I don’t have her name spell right, I apologize. But congratulation to her still.
The “In Memorium” always makes me sad.
welp her speech managed to make me cry and I’m not even watching the Oscars, nor have I seen the movie yet… what a lovely woman. Thanks for all the postings on the Oscars and for spotlighting this amazing beauty.. what I DO miss about not having teevee.
I can’t hear Bette sing that song without crying!

Obots at work…
No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid. ~Lupita Nyong’o
That she recognized the pain of our ancestors. What an inspiring young lady! And lest you think this is for show, check her out at the Essence Awards…
“That she recognized the pain of our ancestors.” In fact, she did that first! Priorities well in order.
Yes she did, Dudette. Yes she did… What a wonderful young woman!!

Pres Obama hugging his wife was ALL Natural.
Well that’s lovely. As I said, he sees himself as the reconstitutor of Russia. And he knows that he’s sitting on a powderkeg ready to kick him out.
I mean seriously what on earth did he think was going to happen with this invasion? Did he really think that the world was just gonna shrug their shoulders at his aggression???

Again, he thinks he’s a new Tsar.
Boris Yeltsin has much to answer for in his grave.

Hopefruit, you are so right!
Yes and yes and yes hf – listening to the GOP and the US media not a good idea at this time in history
And when they couldn’t bring down PBO they just thought they might as well start WWIII – that’ll show him.
Indeed…
Totally nailed it hopefruit2!
Why doesn’t Mad Vlad just sit down and let Medvedev back in the chair.
that’s what makes him so dangerous– and i’m very glad merkel gets it.
A little family business.
Jamie Foxx is certifiable!
So I guess “Happy” didn’t win a Grammy? Frozen song won??
Oscar not Grammy….where am I??? 😆
Yeah, Frozen won, oh well.
No surprise. If there’s a Disney movie out, their song almost always wins. [sigh]
It won in my heart!
But Pharrell’s not crying he won two Grammy’s for “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk) and has been receiving accolades and nominations all ove rthe place.
Pharrell’s awesome performance. He should’ve won the Oscar.
Agreed!!!!

It’s Cate! Not mad at all!
I saw Blue Jasmine. I didn’t realize she was nominated. She was wicked good in that film.
I haven’t seen it yet, but she’s is wicked good in everything she’s in.
She’s a nutcase in this role but she played it to a T.
Matthew McConaughey was OUTSTANDING in Dallas Buyers Club!!!!
Ahhhh Matthew! Well deserved!
He was excellent in this role.
Yes he was.
12 Years a Slave!!!!

What is the story behind Brad Pitt being one of the producers for 12 Years a Slave?
So glad that the director gave a clear shout out to the writer who worked to preserve Northrup’s story. She had a life-long fascination with it.
Brad Pitt had a wonderful quote. To paraphrase: If I never work on another film, my life has been fulfilled by “12 Years a Slave.”
12 Years a Slave would never have been made without Brad Pitt. It was his production company, Plan B that financed the film when major Hollywood studios turned their back on the project. So without him, there would not be an Oscar winning best picture called 12YAS.
I was moved to tears by the Lupita acceptance speech. Her reference to the dead being with us and looking on with gratitude really touched me.
I never understand how one person can win Best Director and another film win best picture.
New post.
