What an amazing young woman! I really must go see her in “12 Years A Slave.” I had hesitated because I already saw an excellent film, based on the remarkable autobiography of Solomon Northup, which was done in the 80s, titled: “Half Free and Half Slave: the Odyssey of Solomon Northup.” Time for genealogists to try to find out if Lupita Nyongo and President Obama may be related.

Same here. I haven’t seen any of the movies nominated (don’t go to movies often) so I’m not usually ‘that’ into the Oscars, but this year–lovin’ it, lovin’ it……..every minute.

I mean seriously what on earth did he think was going to happen with this invasion? Did he really think that the world was just gonna shrug their shoulders at his aggression???

When Angela Merkel, a clear-eyed realist says that about a person…….it must be so. She’s close to him, and knows what the old Soviets were like. And yes, I think he did think he could march into Crimea and invade with impunity. He is the complete megalomaniac, and this is how they think and operate. Boundaries and sovereignty mean nothing to him when he wants something.
Frankly, he, and the world should’ve gotten a clue when PBO did not send anyone in his family or cabinet or official staff to lead the delegation to Sochi. But, subtlety is beyond Pooty. Other people also don’t understand PBO…..I’m thinking that’s a good thing.

Putin must have been spending way too much time watching/reading US RW/MSM/Libertarian propaganda about how “weak” PBO is and he probably believed that crappy Forbes article claiming that he was the most powerful person in the world, with PBO coming in 2nd….

He needs to learn a lesson on reality like those FOX News and other Right-wing media fans

Loving the diversity of this year’s Oscar, from Lupita tot he director of Gravity giving part of his speech in Spanish, to the Lopezs who wrote the Oscar-winning song “Frozen” and so much more. After 70 years of the Oscars and over 100 years of cinema, the industry is finally looking more like rhw real America and the world.

Diversity is at the heart of how she’ll make her mark at the academy. “I am active in our member engagement and am seeking diverse talent domestically as well as internationally,” said Isaacs..

Kinda surprise 12 Yrs won. Gravity was picking up everything in sight, so Wow! I’m pleasantly surprised! Yay!

    • March 3, 2014 at 12:09 am

Gravity was some sort of technological breakthrough according to the NPR predictions so that is probably why they won a lot of those awards. 12 Years A Slave was still favored to win. Mathew and Cate were favored too so the predictions came true.

What is the story behind Brad Pitt being one of the producers for 12 Years a Slave?
So glad that the director gave a clear shout out to the writer who worked to preserve Northrup’s story. She had a life-long fascination with it.

    • March 3, 2014 at 12:07 am

Brad Pitt had a wonderful quote. To paraphrase: If I never work on another film, my life has been fulfilled by “12 Years a Slave.”

    • 107 Jewelz
      March 3, 2014 at 12:22 am

12 Years a Slave would never have been made without Brad Pitt. It was his production company, Plan B that financed the film when major Hollywood studios turned their back on the project. So without him, there would not be an Oscar winning best picture called 12YAS.
