“And yet despite enjoying majority status, significant privilege, and unchallenged religious freedom in this country, we evangelical Christians have become known as a group of people who cry “persecution!” upon being wished “Happy Holidays” by a store clerk. ”

My sister-in-law is one of these ‘persecuted’ Christians, and she posted something on FB about the assault on Christmas, yada yada. I used a variation on the above argument – that wishing someone well at holiday time, regardless of their religion which is not overtly known or frankly, anyone’s business when you’re buying a blu-ray disc or a cup of coffee, is well-wishing that is ALWAYS a good thing. That my bestowing of good will, regardless of my religious beliefs, should be welcomed by all and I accept it as such when bestowed upon me.

I told my husband that I fully expected to be ‘unfriended’ by her. She and I did not discuss it again, but the posts to that effect stopped and she has actually been warmer to me than in the past.

“I’ve been watching people with golden crosses around their necks and on their lapels shout at the TV about how serving gay and lesbian people is a violation of their “sincerely-held religious beliefs.”

And I can’t help but laugh at the sad irony of it.

Two-thousand years ago, Jesus hung from that cross, looked out on the people who put him there and said, “Father, forgive them.” Jesus served sinners all the way to the cross.

The truth is, evangelical Christians have already “lost” the culture wars. And it’s not because the “other side” won or because evangelicals have failed to protect our own religious liberties. Evangelicals lost the culture wars the moment they committed to fighting them, the moment they decided to stop washing feet and start waging war.”

    This is awesomeness.

Making Obamacare less taxing: Preparers sign up clients
H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service are partnering with two leading online insurance brokers—H&R Block with GoHealth and Jackson Hewitt with Getinsured. They are now steering customers to those brokers if the clients say they want to enroll in Obamacare insurance after getting their tax returns prepared. Given potential tax penalties under the new law, the companies see it as a natural fit—and a potentially growing service.

The President probably invited him personally because of his asshole comment during SB. He can’t claim the president has not addressed the issue of black kid and families. The administration needs to challenge Fake noise to feature good kids if color and not just hyping negative stories. Bill O the clown likes looking down on minorities.

I am convinced that the WH invited the jerk so that he would serve as a positive instrument in the propaganda for this brilliant initiative rather than isolate him and make him more bitter. Can he be really more bitter? I take that back.

I lost it when I saw Rev. Al with the Martin & Davis families. I remembered Jordan’s mom saying she’d never be a grandmother, never have a daughter-in-law. I fetched the tissue box from the kitchen and put it next to me.

If there could be a living embodiment of spiritual values President Barack Obama is the closest thing to that I can imagine.
He lives the religious values that others payloud and public lip service to while they are busy serving other ends entirely.

You could hear a pin drop
    “When I was their age
    I was just like them”
    He said
    “Are you talking about you?”
    They had said
And he told them his story
    And they listened
He explained he had a chance because
“They never gave up on me”
    He said
    “If you work hard …
    If you take responsibility …
You can make it in this country”
    And they listened
You could hear a pin drop
    In that room
    This is a turning point
    Across our country
    And in our hearts
    In the time of Obama.

The default position of the whiny liberals: “Not enough, not fast enough”.

One of the regular guests on Stephanie Miller yesterday, Carlos something, said PBO was ‘marginally better’ than Jan Brewer on marriage equality

I was SCREAMING. PBO came out publicly in support of marriage equality months before the election, at great electoral risk. EVERYTHING he has done as POTUS and through the Justice Dept. and the military has been to promote the rights of LGBT people. EVERYTHING. More done by this President than all Presidents combined.

But that’s ‘marginally’ better than Jan Brewer, who was looking for an excuse to sign this hateful legislation, and would have if it wasn’t going to impact her state economically?

I sent Stephanie an email telling her that her show will be turned off whenever he shows his face. I was thinking of taking Mr. 57 to the Sexy Liberal Tour in Chicago in April, but I told Stephanie we would not attend as long as that whiny, dangerous jackass was on the stage.

    I am Trayvon
    And I am Jordan
    We are here today
    In this room facing East
    In a city we may
    Never have
    Had time to visit
    We have our hands
    On the shoulders of
    Our dear parents
    Sitting here today
    As we stand behind them
    Our parents
    Who miss us so much.
    They made us strong
    And we keep them strong
    It’s the circle of life.
    We stand up for them
    As they stand up for
    Our brothers
    Trayvon is my brother
    Jordan is mine
And so are these young men.
    Thank you, Mr. President,
    For reminding all of us
    We are our brother’s keeper
We do exist to help each other.
    Leap at your own chances
    Know we are with you
    Learn what you can
    Enjoy it all.

“In addition to encouraging foreign direct investment, the EU could provide support to train local companies’ managers and help them develop their business strategies, with service providers remunerated by equity stakes or profit-sharing. An effective way to roll out such support to a large number of companies would be to combine it with credit lines provided by commercial banks. To encourage participation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) could invest in companies alongside foreign and local investors, as it did in Central Europe.

Ukraine would thus open its domestic market to goods manufactured or assembled by European companies’ wholly- or partly-owned subsidiaries, while the EU would increase market access for Ukrainian companies and help them integrate into global markets.

I hope and trust that Europe under German leadership will rise to the occasion. I have been arguing for several years that Germany should accept the responsibilities and liabilities of its dominant position in Europe. Today, Ukraine needs a modern-day equivalent of the Marshall Plan, by which the United States helped to reconstruct Europe after the second world war. Germany ought to play the same role today as the US did then.

I must, however, end with a word of caution. The Marshall Plan did not include the Soviet bloc, thereby reinforcing the Cold War division of Europe. A replay of the Cold War would cause immense damage to both Russia and Europe, and most of all to Ukraine, which is situated between them. Ukraine depends on Russian gas, and it needs access to European markets for its products; it must have good relations with both sides.”

Watching and listening to the president, my heart and mind focused on the young men in my college English classes. A good number of them had the same disadvantages the President talked about. Fortunately for them, somehow they got to our college where they are mentored and nurtured and given direction.
Just one example of reality bites. After class today, one of my AA young men was talking about riding home to Dallas this weekend. Another AA young man said he wanted to go too. The first one said “One black man in a car is enough, and I’m big enough for two.” That was like a punch in my stomach, the reality these young men live with. President Obama knows and spoke to that today.
I am so thankful for President Obama, and sometimes my mystic comes in as I can’t help but believe that he is here at this time on purpose, that it is not accidental in the great scheme of American life that he was elected TWICE.

I applaud what just happened in the WH today. I am so proud of our President taking the imitative to publically reach out to these young men a time when SYG laws are the modern day “strange fruit” Billie Hoilday sang about years ago.
As a proud of two AA men, I must speak out on the predators that we don’t want to talk about. These are men and women who come into the inner cities with the intent of doing good. But their alternative motives are to rape their minds, souls and bodies. The color could be any color.

I speak of experience when they prey upon these young men with the potential and promises of going to the NBA. They take advantage of them on all aspects. Money, cars, nice dinners. They lure them and their parents in believing this is their ticket out of the neighborhood. Both my sons were excellent in sports, but my husband and I had to balance it with books first. We made sure that we did background checks on all adults who were involved in their lives. It is not easy sometimes when these predators were cool, calm professionals, dressed nice, spoke intelligently.

Two well-known gyms where these coaches were very well established sexually molesting these young boys with promises of sneakers, money and other gifts. That brings me to the “sneakers”. We were adamant they would not go there when most of their friends told them that they would get into a great college if they did . I wish Michael Jordan was there sitting in the front row to explain why his sneakers cost so least to make than to buy. Our young people stand in long lines for hours and will kill each other for 3Xs the amount. The sad part is some will not even wear them. They keep them as trophies or sell them on E-bay for unbelievable prices.

I am so glad for this dialogue. I cried from the beginning up to the end.
What encouraged my heart is our President emphasis on the programs that don’t work, get rid of them. I totally agree. But the predators should be called out as well who are hiding and lurking to take advantage of these young boys. They would be tracked down, exposed and never be allowed to go to the next neighborhood under the disguise of “doing good.”
