/mind heavy with suspicion/ Is that real gold – looks kind of false. How come it isn’t engraved? Did you just pick it up from the toy box? Why did I have to ask for it? I mean to say, is this first position in the village a classy win or not? And if it isn’t, why are so many people stepping on people’s toes to get in?

πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ One of these days you’ll prolly hit me over the head with one of those socks to which Danny-O is always trying to lay exclusive claim.

My only hope is that they don’t vote. Mostly because they’re too stupid to find the polling place.

    • February 18, 2014 at 3:31 pm

These people must have to sign a release thingie for the video to be shown ….. why on earth would they do it? $$s????

      • February 18, 2014 at 3:36 pm

You’d be amazed at what people will do to claim their 15 seconds of fame.

I was wondering if they were told after that they were way off base and would be appearing on TV? The last time I saw Kimmell doing something similar (with the ACA and Obamacare) people were at least told afterwards that the two names referred to the same law. You know, I’m not sure I wouldn’t be caught in one of these, because a) I work on the assumption that the media (in my world anyways) wouldn’t start out with a lie and b) I rarely listen intelligently when in circumstances like this.

        • February 18, 2014 at 3:42 pm

I’d just assume they have to give permission for their clips to be aired, but as LL suggested, some people will agree to flippin’ anything to get on the TeeVee – they’re probably thrilled! I remember those ACA ‘interviews’, my head is still sore from banging it on the desk.

Chips, are you trying to tell us you prefer Kimmel or Fallon because of stupid people??? I really don’t think those are random people. Really? even the old folks didn’t know how to answer the Roosevelt question correctly?

So, one reason I’m not very worried about China overtaking the US as the world’s premier economic power.

China has the second largest economy in the world and has been growing at an astonishing rate for the past 30 years. In a documentary for the This World strand, the BBC’s new economics editor Robert Peston reveals that the vast majority of the enormous investments in industry and infrastructure has been built on credit, leaving huge debts and questions over how much of the money can ever be paid back.

Yes, I know, US debt stands at $17 trillion. But even with all our economic and political dysfunction, the US has advantages China doesn’t.

Thanks CaroleMaeWY for posting that lovely picture of Fort Monroe (some actually refer to it as Fortress Monroe – does this imply feminine? I must look up the difference); anyway not to sidetrack. My hubby and all 5 of his siblings were born on Fort Monroe in the hospital there. His Dad was stationed at Fort Monroe as was his Mom’s father. They met at a dance on the Fort, married there, then took a month or longer wedding trip across the United States to the Oregon coast and back (Dad had family in Oregon). Subsequently, they had 6 children there in only about 10 years time. They left Ft. Monroe when my hubby (the youngest) was three and spent 5 years in Germany, then Dad was transferred here to Redstone Arsenal. We were last in Ft. Monroe three years ago. It is fascinating and beautiful place. It is the only Fort with a moat around it. To anyone who is interested in checking out this latest national monument, also check out the Chamberlin Hotel there which has been restored and is not a “retirement home” which, oh gosh, I would love to retire to. It is open to the public for their Sunday brunches (over the top) and other activities. I love Fort Monroe, and Hampton, VA, and the entire area around the Chesapeake Bay there.

I peeped in and couldn’t stand seeing two Pastry Studio’s. The combining of the numbers won’t push meta into First, but would bring her closer to Joy, so I left a comment/request to combine Pastry Studio’s numbers.

    We’ll see if it happens…

Many thanks again for all your support and votes, people. You are crazy super-fabulous.
I’ve gotten a lot of new hits to my blog and some new followers for my pastry twitter acct.

The only thing I ask going forward is that if you tweet about the contest, please don’t couple my two twitter accounts. (No one’s done that yet but I just wanted to caution!) I need to keep them separate – one is super political as you know and one is food biz.

Thank you, TODers! Free cookies everyone!

Yes it is normal to want to tell everyone the good news. You will be trying to insert these glad tidings in every conversation, find a way to mention this new sweetness, no matter the topic. Even here, I would find a way—–usually a real stretch, like “that impressive PBO appearance today reminds me of my impressive new grandbaby”…etc. Congrats to all! Love her name too!

This past weekend was our visit the grandkids time. (Of course we see the son and d-I-l too) We had dinner with the gkids while mom and dad went out to dinner for Valentine’s Day. We had a great time. My husband is already planning to do the same thing next time we visit…..grandkids are beyond compare! We are so enjoying watching them grow up, and so proud. #1 grandson is first chair saxophone in his middle school orchestra…..#2 is a soccer and basketball player, and a jokester. The youngest….the girl…..runs the house and plays Barbies. She and I played heigh-ho Cherry-o, dominoes, and I read Dr. Seuss to her at least six times! You are in for wonderful times!!!!

Gubernatorial candidate and Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford (R), who is under fire for sexual harassment allegations and of inappropriately rooming with his assistant, notified media outlets Tuesday that he had decided to pull his campaign ads statewide effectively immediately.

In an email to TPM, Rutherford spokesman Brian Sterling stressed that the candidate was not dropping out of the race:

In light of recent outside efforts, the campaign released reserves it had placed on some future TV time. Nothing was canceled.

His TV commercials are up this week in most of the state. The campaign will evaluate future markets going forward.

He is not dropping out of the race.

A week earlier Rutherford announced that he would not release the findings of a taxpayer-funded investigation which he had previously said would clear his name from the sexual harassment accusations. Rutherford strongly denies the accusations.

Separately, The Chicago Tribune reported that Rutherford regularly slept in hotel rooms with his executive assistant and stayed together in a studio apartment in Chicago. Rutherford said it was to save money.

    Hello TOD family!
Just catching up from two days. Whew!
    Love you all.
Donna, I left you a message on the last post requesting a list of all the Did You Know?
I need to encourage a group of AA young male who are having a of difficult time understanding why they are feared and hated. Especially when they are emulated and admired in certain areas.
If Ms. Chips is around, you have my permission to get my e-mail.

Yes, thank you so much, Ms. Chips. How are you and Danny Boy?

I don’t know what else to do but send positive messages. It is the least I can do.
It pains me so. It reminds me of the little boy asking POB early on, ” Why do they hate you?”
Of course, OUR President answered with grace and style. It hurts me to hear him answer that question then and to hear these young men ask it now.
It is not easy to move on from this because SYG law is is evil. It is another way of lynching. What is evil that it does not take a mob to do the act. It only takes one person sitting on the jury to hate. There is nothing fearful when you feel you have the right hate.
I have hear Rev. Al say that Jim Crow has put on a suit and now is James Esq. in the courtroom(paraphrase).

I invite everyone here to sit in a criminal courtroom one day. You will not be the same……

        • February 18, 2014 at 5:30 pm

Hiya LDS, that was one of the most powerful quotes I’ve ever heard, it was from Myrlie Evers-Williams:

β€œJim Crow is alive, and it’s dressed in a Brooks Brothers suit, my friend, instead of a white robe.”

It sent chills throughout my body coming from a woman whose husband was slaine in your own driveway while your children were inside.
Myrlie Evans, Jackie Kennedy, Coretta King are women who knows what real pain feels like and continue to raise children……
