TY, Hopefruit! Was shooting for a top 3 finish in lieu of the Olympics, kept my stamina intact for the final stretch, and snuck in! ……..heading to Biology class now 😦
GE, Chips! Get my cast off Wednesday……..can’t wait. I left you a message earlier….. I hope your mother is doing better, and I’m sure she will survive your wonderful dinner. TTYS
I see the Canadians are bitter—-or at least one writer for their big paper is—–after the U.S. won, they called ice dancing “a tawdry whore of a sport”, saying the fix was in. Their duo won last time and finished 2nd. Sounds like sour grapes to me. I watched, and they were all talented and lovely to watch, but I agreed that our pair was a little better, could tell they have been skating together since they were wee tots.
LOL…One thing if I must say, the Russian guy is kinda hawt. But I will leave it at that. Don’t want to get Audrey and Eleroy offended anymore than I already have…
Indeed, perhaps the most striking thing about GOP economic arguments is that they weren’t just wrong about the efficacy of Clinton’s policies, and then wrong again during the Bush/Cheney era, and then wrong once again about whether the Recovery Act would help turn the economy around, congressional Republicans also seemed to go to great lengths to impose policies – debt crises, spending cuts, sequestration, a government shutdown – that seemed almost designed to make the economy worse.
It’s why Ben Bernanke – a Fed chairman who, up until extremely recently, was considered a fairly conservative Republican – repeatedly told Capitol Hill that the single biggest obstacle to a healthier economy has been the fiscal policies demanded by GOP lawmakers.
So, I had a sad encounter highlighting that life and time proceed apace.
I was chatting in the back yard with my niece earlier today, and a woman approached the back gate. It took me a moment to realize that it was my niece’s mom, my former sister-in-law. I hadn’t seen her in years, and the years have not been kind to her. It’s an open secret that she has early stages Alzheimer’s. (How she drives I have no idea.) She spends most of the year up in Oregon with her husband, but winters she comes down to L.A. where they have a condo. And it hit me almost immediately of whom she reminded me: my dad’s sister, my aunt Teresa, right when she was coming down with her illness. She was slow, shuffling, and just not quite here. It was such a marked difference from the energetic, intelligent person she was when married to my brother.
REMINDER For TODer’s and Lurkers: VOTE, VOTE, VOTE for Meta’s Pastry Studio to get in the finals. This is just phase one, so do your part. Get your mom, dad, daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, grandparents, cousins, godchildren, step-children, neighbors, best friends, and frenemies to vote. 😀
Thought this was funny—–this Yankees fan. And just happy to see the word “spring” as in spring training—-as we are getting bombarded ONCE AGAIN with ANOTHER round of big snow here in Illinois. Sick of it. But there will be spring again one day, right?
Dotster, we’re getting the same bombardment overnight–it’s sending me into despair. There’s absolutely NO MORE ROOM to put snow. But every day does bring us closer to Spring even if it is excruciatingly slow.
I notice that the days are getting longer (which means we are moving AWAY from winter and TOWARDS summer), despite all the cold/snowy weather we’ve been having. Just a month ago, my lights would be on at this time of day. Now all my lights are OFF, and I can still see 🙂 .
Buh-bye Winter…see you later!
In case you missed it at bottom of last thread. . .
February 17, 2014: It’s not obscure or strange, but I wanted to draw George and Abe for Presidents Day. But we do have two lesser-known days to combine with our founding fathers: Random Acts of Kindness Day and National Cafe au Lait Day.
I love to see the President “jogging up the steps” – makes me realize that with/without scandal Christie will never be President. He would have trouble surviving the walk up those stairs.
Siena College survey released Monday questioned historians and scholars about who they think were the best First Ladies? Number one was Eleanor Roosevelt, two was Abigail Adams, three was Jackie Kennedy, four was Dolly Madison and five was our FLOTUS, Mrs. Michelle Obama.
AB, this is not a bad list, but I would put Michelle Obama where Jackie Kennedy is. Jackie was sweet and tragic, but Michelle has measurable solid results for her initiatives and she has helped so many people. Eleanor Roosevelt had three terms and a portion of a fourth to make a difference and then she went on to do great work for human rights when she was a widow. She is one of the most remarkable women in history in my opinion. As for Abigail and Dolly Madison–both of them should have been president, instead of their husbands.
I think I mentioned this before here, but my mom, when she was a new young teacher at a country school in Iowa, met Eleanor Roosevelt. She just arrived one day at her school, unannounced, observed the teaching and wanted my mom’s input on what she needed for her school, what she thought might improve rural education, one of Eleanor’s interests/initiatives. That was quite a special surprise for my mom, a big highlight. (the other was meeting the cute young guy who ran the general store/gas station kitty corner from the country school at the 4 way stop there) (my dad)
Loved the photo my daughter posted on facebook for Presidents Day. They took their little guy to an auto museum yesterday—–he likes all cars, trucks, things that go. And they had a really cool statue of President Obama there, sitting casually on a park bench, in his blue suit, white shirt, red and white striped tie, arm nonchalantly resting on the back of the bench, tie slightly askew—-so photo taken with my cute little grandson sitting and grinning beside him. It was so excellent, trust me. (I am photo posting challenged so y’all will just have to picture it in your minds, as you always have to do with my “photos”)
If I type the names, I will go into pending. But you’ve probably seen them in many of my tweets – my “naughty mat” tweets in particular. These two individuals I have to request their pardon so as to not offend their sensibilities…. A & E….
That pic where PBO is looking at FLOTUS after one of the debates – I give that picture and whatever it conveys all due reverence. Can’t mess with that….something really deep there – goes well beyond love, admiration, lust, pride, respect. Something quite possibly out of the mortal realm…
I too have never been able to put a name to it, Hopef. I like your explanation ••► ‘goes well beyond love, admiration, lust, pride, respect. Something quite possibly out of the mortal realm’. I don’t believe in that moment he saw anyone else who might have been near! Even with the physical distance between us, the Obamas have taught me so much about love and relationships, among other things. I’ve said it before – I’m blessed to be alive during this moment in history!
Beautifully stated HF. This is one of my favorites. I remember at the end of the debate then Senator Barack Obama was searching for someone and it was Michelle. This photo captures the moment he embraces her with his eyes. He had found what he was looking for.
Hey LL and all other SoCal TODers. Maybe after it opens, we could meet there and try it out. I’ve never heard of them before. Also, there hiring – pass it along…

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 17, 2014) — PizzaRev, the nation’s leading made-to-order artisanal pizza concept, is getting closer to the Grand Opening of a new location in Mid-City, Los Angeles, CA. “PizzaRev’s custom-designed four-ton stone-hearth oven is installed, and we’re fired-up to start serving pizzas soon in Mid-City!” said Irv Zuckerman, Co-CEO of PizzaRev. The location will sit at the intersection of Pico Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd in the Midtown Crossing shopping center, and is expected to open in March. Partner & COO Nicholas Eckerman has announced a Job Fair – February 18 from 11am to 4pm — taking place at the Mid-City location. “We expect to add over 30 jobs to the local economy with our opening, and we are excited to meet the newest members of the PizzaRev family. Then I said to self, TOD is a place to go get information, banter with a loving community and then, all Hell breaks with that eye hurting, but lung cracking laughter……
I see there is a big to do on twitter about the origin of Melissa Harris Perry’s new sweet baby. She hinted she will tell the story, but not everything is everyone’s biz-ness. And icebergslim is still around? Could never figure out what happened to her—-from Obama supporter to a hateful anti-Obama nut.
LOL – apparently MHP posted a pic of the baby and some folks assumed it was an adoption since they didn’t see a “baby bump” However,as MHP indicated, their child was not adopted. But she didn’t really expand any further in the tweet and instead promised to “tell their story” at a later time/date. Meanwhile, Icebergslim is demanding to know what is going on….seems like the same controlling icebergslim we knew from Old Orange!!!
This is YET another naughty mat moment, and I’ve been trying my best all day to not get into trouble! Chips you’re making things very complicated for me at this time.
Other than here at TOD, I have not posted or made any other comments on the Child Killer on TeaNN today. I will not click any link, I will not take part in driving traffic for Money making sites looking for web Traffic.

Wonderful trip down memory lane, UT!
Congrats LP on #1 🙂

Uh oh, sorry. . .
LOL – not to worry CarolMae. It’s all good! This is wonderful news, and makes me want to see it all the more 🙂
Wow, Americans win in ice dancing. That used to be dominated by the Soviet Union / Russia.
I know, I was surprised…
I see the Canadians are bitter—-or at least one writer for their big paper is—–after the U.S. won, they called ice dancing “a tawdry whore of a sport”, saying the fix was in. Indeed. I will watch it on NBC tonight. Did the Russian pair come in 3rd?
Yes——and first with the crowd there, of course.
LOL…One thing if I must say, the Russian guy is kinda hawt. But I will leave it at that. Don’t want to get Audrey and Eleroy offended anymore than I already have…

probably insane – no sane woman would live with any of them
Sure there would. Marsha Blackburn, Virginia Foxx, Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin and all the female pundits on Faux noise!
Nope – they live with men who shut up and carry the handbag
No comment. I carry my own handbag, thank you very much!
Your welcome. I’ve always been jealous of the fact that men’s clothes contain pockets – giving them no need to carry anything.
We have man bags now my dear.
Mr 99 still happy with pockets my friend.
That’s okay. I only use mine for special events and real dressy affairs. 😀
