Nerdy has been a jewel! I look at her efforts and am speechless at her continued effort, commitment, organization and output. I really don’t know when she sleeps! (Don’t tell her, but she has so boosted my faith in our young people and in our future!) We in the village got lucky when she chose to align with you 😉 and us! 😆 😆 )
Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone is in ship shape and rarin’ to go!
I’m bowled over with excitement at the voter turn out for Meta! TOD Family gettin’ it DONE!
Only 8 more votes and she’ll be in the lead with 5 more days of voting to go! Woohoo!
How about more Twitter mentions? Any Facebookers out there? Could you give her shout-out?
We can DO this! Yes We Can! 😀
scroll down to her blog’s name , Pastry Studio, then click on the plus sign to ‘nominate’ her for the next round! we need to get her into the top 3 so she can win the gold!!
now go visit her blog and drooooool over the fabulous desserts she cooks up! thanks meta for all the dreamy goodies!
Hello Ms Chips – you have been missed – although in your absence NW has provided some wonderful posts – I hope you have caught up with the work and chased away the odd twitter troll (very politely, of course).
All’s good now 99ts, my mother had a bad fall on Thursday night and cut her head so had to go to hospital. She’s home now and recovering well, although still a bit dazed from it all. I spent Friday and Saturday catching up on sleep and looking after her, and then had a busy day’s work yesterday, so would have been completely lost without Nerdy – she’s a wonder.
So sorry about your Mom – I had a similar experience with my MIL a few years ago – it did take quite some time for her to recover from the fall – and to feel confident back in the usual swings of living. No doubt your Mom loves you as much as everyone here – I’ll rustle up meta to bake you a cake – cause my efforts are usually inedible 🙂 Many get well thoughts to your Mom.
Ah, thank you 99ts!! Definitely, I think she’s lost quite a bit of confidence, although as always she lets on everything is fine. She handled it all so calmly, it was amazing, she was even joking in the ambulance with the superhero who was tending to her. I was sitting there feeling quietly hysterical. I’m guessing she was in shock, though, looks like it’s caught up now.
The one smile in the night was when I got home, around five in the morning, Danny was like: “Woah, you’re up early – okay, walkies time!” (He speaks, you know).
Oh, Chips, sorry your mom had the fall and the scare. Falls can be terrifying — they happen so quickly and you just lose control as gravity takes over. Glad you got to be with her. I hope she’s fully recovered very soon.
Thank you so much Jackie, it was a horrible experience for her, and as 99ts said the biggest impact is the loss of confidence after, so we really need to try and build that back for her. I just can’t over the fact that she didn’t break anything – she puts it down to a lifetime of drinking milk! Thanks again Jackie.
Aaaaw, Chips! Only now reading of Mama Chips’ ordeal – so fortunate you were near. Sure hope this wasn’t a slip on ice – of which I am so, so afraid. Virtual hugs to Mom, you and your siblings, all of whom are probably going to be a bit nervous until Mom regains her confidence. Wishes for fast healing! {{{{CC + Mom}}}}
Thank you, you lovely thing. No, it happened at home, we don’t know if she slipped or became dizzy, no explanation for it. It’s really incredible that she didn’t break something, but physically she seems to be fine, it’s just the shock of it all has left her a bit stunned. And the confidence issue is the main thing now. But we’ll work on it. Thanks a million VC.
‘It’s really incredible that she didn’t break something’
Praises! I’d guess the docs checked her out re dizziness, etc. so ….. will continue to hold her, you and the rest of the family in my thoughts. Tell Danny-O I was proud to hear that he did his best to give your mind a break from worry by taking you for an earlier than usual walk. {{Danny-O}} = (not hugs but) 2 pats on the head
🙂 He’s still confused, he didn’t get his walk at five in the morning, and then I was up two hours later, so in his own delightful way, he asked me: WTF?
Chips sorry to hear about your mom’s fall, and glad you were able to be there for her with NW’s help! Hope she continues to recover and you & Danny are able to get back into your normal routines soon. 🙂
Chips – it sounds like your mother didn’t break anything but her confidence. Head injuries can be serious, so it’s good she went to the hospital. Hope she regains it all soon!
Thank you so much Judith, you’re absolutely right, her confidence is all that has been broken, and we can work on getting that back. She’s just happy to be back in her own home, so she’s warm and comfy. Thanks again Judith.
Thanks a million Amk, what a lovely card! It’s my job to ensure she follows doctor’s orders, ie rest, rest, rest, rest. My success rate so far? Zero-ish. A rowdy rascal – can’t think who she reminds me of.
Oh my goodness, Chips. SO sorry to hear about your mother. Please give her our love and best wishes for a full recovery ASAP. Many, many bouquets of healing to her.
So the NYSE calls today Washington’s Birthday – they obviously realize that is maybe not such a great idea – as they have to explain why it is so http://www.nyx.com/en/holidays-and-hours/nyse
“Washington’s Birthday was first declared a federal holiday by an 1879 act of Congress. The Monday Holiday Law, enacted in 1968, shifted the date of the commemoration of Washington’s Birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February, but neither that law nor any subsequent law changed the name of the holiday from Washington’s Birthday to President’s Day. Although the third Monday in February has become popularly known as President’s Day, the NYSE’s designation of Washington’s Birthday as an Exchange holiday (Rule 51) follows the form of the federal holiday outlined above (section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code).”
Anyone know if this is a recent call by the NYSE – I get paranoid about such things in relation to the current President.
Good morning. The president comes back to DC today to an impossibly busy week. I hope his time away refreshed his spirit. President’s Day is one of those mushy holidays that never meant much to me. I used to like to have Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthdays off in the old days. We could do fun projects at school about both of them and get to understand their lives and accomplishments better. Plus it was TWO days off in the endless drear of February. But President’s Day–meh. Some of our presidents are best left forgotten and so the whole thing is just an amorphous nothing. Still, school kids are home today, the “sales” are everywhere and the malls will be clogged. I guess the way to honor American presidents is to show that we are avid consumers and spend money.
Fantastic summary, NW. If we all had these facts at our fingertips, we could argue successfully with anyone. I’ve saved these summary statements in a special file to refer to when I encounter the doubters and the naysayers. Thank you so much. This is what ’empowerment’ means.

Mr. Muscatinegal made an astute but amusing observation about TOD last night.
He came into the LR to watch the last 10 minutes of “Downton Abbey” with me and I was explaining the characters to him (“Oh, that’s Lady Edith and Lady Mary – they are Lord Grantham’s daughters”, etc.) He marveled that I could keep track of all those characters and their backstory so easily.
Then he said “It’s just like that Obama Diary you follow. You’re always telling me about the different names on there and what they say or do – and their dogs, but I don’t know how you can keep it all straight!”
So there you have it – perhaps you all are actually “TOD Abbey”. I’ll let you decide who is the Dowager Countess around here. 🙂
Mucatinegal, we remember the characters we LOVE on tv shows, in movies and in books. We remember people here because we share a common love of our president and because we trust each other. There are many characters in tv shows that I could care less about and never remember their names, let alone their backgrounds. There are other blogs I go to where I would be hard pressed to remember the names of any of the commenters. This is different because Chips has made it a place where the naysayers and the haters are not welcome and we are safe to be ourselves.
I’m going public with my gripe about this DangerousBlackKids hashtag. Quite simply, I dislike it, though I absolutely love all the pics it accompanies that I’ve seen. I see its intent, but it really, really bothers me when we establish our messaging using a base triggered by the haters. I see such beautiful pictures of black kids being wonderful young citizens, tainted IMO by this messaging. Sure it’s meant to be a poke in the eyes of the haters, but as far as I’m concerned we’ve let *them* set the message of our rebuttal. I shut up yesterday, but I hate to see this continuing. We could use those SAME beautiful young images and attach our own positive hashtag…. IMO.
I have to say I had mixed feelings about it too VC when I caught up with it, and I’m not completely comfortable with my tweet on it either – although I intended it as a mocking two fingers to the bigots, and I’m okay with the mocking ones. But I understand what you mean, I share your reservations.
IMO people could easily turn it around by resending their pics with a positive hashtag. [I was actually tempted yesterday to do just that but felt sure the original senders would be quite ticked with me. I mean, who am I to edit their stuff!!!! 😯 ] I ‘endured’ yesterday, but I really hate that it’s continuing today with the same hashtag.
Maybe TOD could brainstorm for a shorter positive hashtag (shorter than #BlackKidsOurKidsOurFuture) and introduce it to the twitter stream.
I get both sides of the issue too, but think the positive message with pictures may not have the immediate impact of absurdity to the original message.
I’m good with what you’re saying VC, even though I added my kid/grandkid to the dangerous black kids tag… all as tongue in cheek to poke at the eye of the haters. But I see your point and understand your mixed feelings about it.
Help me out, Sheri, by resending the very same picture with the more positive hashtag. PLEEEAAASE! We poked them yesterday. Let’s reinforce the underlying message, which should be that our kids are kids with HUGE POTENTIAL. I. am. tired. of letting haters set the messaging with regards to our children! I strongly believe that words have power, and I want readers to take away an overt message (let’s face it, some SIMPLY CANNOT read between the lines).
I am just really bad at sleeping. Oh well, I’ll call it extra quiet time before the kids and their sleep over buddies wake up. I need to get started on SBA research and doing some planning anyway.

Oh dear. I’m glad to hear your mom’s recovering, Chips. NW kept things rolling along for us beautifully. Hugs to all three of you!
Thank you Dudette!!! I should pay for Nerdy to take a vacation in the sun after this, she must be worn out. She’s a pure gem.
I hope your recovery is going well?
I’m fabulous! 😀
Wonderful to hear Dudette, but I suspect if you weren’t you wouldn’t tell us – you must be related to my mother!
We know you’re fabulous, Dudette, but how is your recovery coming? 😉
NW is a treasure! When you send her on vacation, however, we’ll expect photos. A blog tyrant’s work is never done. 😀
I don’t want ANY photos of sunny beaches, I couldn’t take it!!!!
Oh, Chips, sorry your mom had the fall and the scare. Falls can be terrifying — they happen so quickly and you just lose control as gravity takes over. Glad you got to be with her. I hope she’s fully recovered very soon.

Tell her, if she doesn’t listen to you (but then, who does?), you’ll simply sic amk/a muslin kenyan on her.
😆 Actually, I think the best threat might be that I’ll sing to her if she doesn’t do what she’s told, that should do the trick.
But, that’s just pure TORTURE, not a threat. Paging #UNHRC
Oi, how dare are you! My singing is utterly unique and very, very special – if you’re not careful I’ll send you a recording of it some day.
“if you’re not careful I’ll send you a recording of it some day.”
Been there. Done that.
Oh my goodness, Chips. SO sorry to hear about your mother. Please give her our love and best wishes for a full recovery ASAP. Many, many bouquets of healing to her.
You’re a very lovely person Meta, thank you HUGELY for your kind words, passing on all the love to my mother! Thank you again, you treasure!
Will be keeping your mom and you in my thoughts, Chips!! Wishing her a speedy recovery and so glad she is now home and comfortable.
Thank you so, so much Bob, really appreciate your kind thoughts, you’re the best.

The malls will definitely be packed here. The weather is beautiful and the kids are restless when the schools are closed.
I am happy; no school and no tutoring, a 24 hour break is what I ordered : )

welp I can’t seem to figure out how to retweet my own tweet vc, any clue?
I’d suggest sending the picture again as a new tweet with the same message and the new hashtag #BlackKidsOurKidsOurFuture
I figured it out.. at last.. and did a different picture this time.
THANK you! 😆 😆
always my pleasure vc 🙂
okay you already made an impact with your hashtag, vc, @DreamDefenders retweeted my tweet.
