I am totally useless now, for having fallen in love with President and First Lady Obama, a.g.a.i.n. Well, as it happens almost every single day of my life, I suppose I will become more useful. Eventually. Later. Maybe.

That 5th photo (all the photos really) but that side profile, her stance, demeanor, the little smile on her face, she’s pure class. She is so poised, beautiful and radiant. I am so proud she is my First Lady.

Sorry for the FOX link—the only place I could find a complete list of invitees—-I somehow managed to miss a bunch I wanted to see. Also news here about PBO’s interesting gift to the French president.

I don’t know how any other First Couple is ever going to be able to live up to the glamor and elegance of our current First Couple. What a dress!

They won’t live up too this First Couple. I have never follow State Dinners like this before and doubt if I will after the Obamas leave the WH.

Oh my goodness. I know it is totally inappropriate but I must declare my ultimate “ship” is the First Couple, POTUS & FLOTUS. I am madly in love with them. FLOTUS’ dress is absolutely stunning and she’s looks drop dead gorgeous and the smile, the smile POTUS gives FLOTUS and her return smile. Really there are no words!!

Hi everyone. I want to thank you for all your kind words, warm thoughts and prayers. While there is still a substantial amount of turmoil in my life I am feeling stronger. Fake it til you make it, so they say, it is what gets me through each day. ….that and this lovely, safe place.

    • February 11, 2014 at 8:03 pm

Mela, I’m so sorry, I completely missed your news, what happened??

Oh dear Chips, if I were to go in to detail I’m afraid I would overload the blog. Nothing life threatening ( my thoughts are with GoBrooklyn) but several difficulties hit all at once and I was in a very dark place. I posted on impulse, asking for prayers knowing TODers would remind me of all that is good in this world with their kindness. Thank you for taking the time to ask but most of all I thank you for creating TOD.

{{{{Mela}}}}} You need a hug, you came to the right place:) One day at a time, one foot in front of the other. This to shall pass. Glad you’re here with us…how can you not be taken away from life’s troubles when you see the magnificent First Couple? They do you good!

Oh Mela, endless love and hugs, again I am so sorry I missed your original message, but so happy you found some comfort here from the kind thoughts you received. Look after yourself, thinking of you.

I could never stay away! TODers restore my faith in humanity. Sometimes when I begin to feel engulfed with heartache and worry I’ll pop in and read something that inspires, makes me laugh or warms my heart.

      • February 11, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Absolutely agree, 99. This place is a safe haven. We are way beyond blessed to be a part of this loving, kind and caring family. Thanks again, Chips……and all the others. 🙂

How many of us (who were old enough) followed State Dinners this closely before PBO? Not me…

    • 68 jacquelineoboomer
      February 11, 2014 at 8:27 pm

I’ve seen many, because I used to be a C-Span junkie, but the only ones I truly craved to see were were well before C-Span: the JFK State Dinners.

LOL! Okay – well the JFK stuff was before my time, but I guess I probably would also watch them if I were around then!

          February 11, 2014 at 8:33 pm

I was still in high school, but because of JFK, I became a political junkie then! We just saw black and white film of it later, with photos in the big magazines and stuff. Jackie Kennedy was the stunner of her time, especially compared to the quite old First Ladies who preceded her!

I was so deprived – Didn’t have a TV until the 1970s & no way to watch US events until the intertubes – so GWB was probably the first President where I could have watched such things – and NEVER did I watch any GWB events.

      MMMmmmmmm……….

The Napa Valley wine sounds interesting:

      Sémillon (65%),
      Sauvignon Blanc (33%)
      and Muscadelle (2%)

A harmonious blend of the three classic white Bordeaux varietals grown in the Golden State’s Sonoma County, this unique cuvée was handcrafted using classical winemaking techniques inspired from Pessac-Léognan. As in architectural arts, it is ‘The Golden Ratio’ or ‘La Proportion Dorée.’

Bright yellow. Intense bouquet of candied lemon, muscat, and honeysuckle flavors intermixed with sweet notes of ripened apricot and fresh quince. Full-bodied, seamless, refined and complex.

      Cheers!

Sorry to go off topic – but can someone explain why the vote on extending/raising/whatever the debt limit is under
the bill : To designate the air route traffic control center located in Nashua, New Hampshire, as the “Patricia Clark Boston Air Route Traffic Control Center”

Does congress just keep all these weird “naming bills” to use whenever???

It’s almost impossible to explain what Congress does. They waste countless hours doing odd esoteric stuff every day and completely bypass the very important and crucial duties, like budgets, healthcare immigration reform. Today as I was waiting for the WH dinner arrivals, one of the GOPers got up and did several minutes about a soccer team in his podunk home town. Flabbergasted.

A former Obama White House social secretary (’10-’11) on C-Span just said it used to be protocol not to seat spouses together at the state dinners, but the Obamas see it differently – that in today’s world, sometimes spouses don’t get to spend as much time together due to business affairs and the like, so they seat them at the same tables.

Barack just wants to sit with Michelle, and vice versa, methinks!

We will have the toasts relatively soon, I guess, since C-Span2 is blabbing about it. Oh, my, check out C-Span2 for the arrival of the two Presidents earlier and the First Lady!

Wow…….Michelle in that beautiful dress is a knockout! In that one picture it looks like President Hollande just wants to take her back to France! That blue is so soft and dreamy, and the lace on top.
Someone earlier mentioned JFK’s dinners (Jackie’s dinners)…..these are the most beautiful since then. I lived in D.C. at the time, and we got pictures in the paper, and entire magazines were devoted to the dinners.
The idea of Monet’s garden for the dinner is so wonderful, so creative, so perfect.
One thing I love at this point in PBO’s presidency is he just looks relaxed, and so does she. They’ve done this, people love them, they know what to do, and they put people at ease in the doing. Again…..Wow!
