Anyone know the seating arrangement on AF1 when PBO has invited guests aboard? I know Newt got all bent outta shape when he was seated in the back when aboard with Pres Clinton.

Don’t know Cookemom, but I would have put Newt in the luggage hold.

After POTUS gets to his spot, then all his lovely people sit down, then it’s my turn to take a seat near POTUS! We generally throw MSM into the wheel well, especially on those trans-atlantic flights! Ugly Repubs (is that an oxymoron?) are treated as one would suicide bombers. LOL! Oh, I could think up more, but I have to play nice when I’m on board!

      [Aaaah, nice dream! 🙂 🙂 ]

Broadcast evening news programs devoted zero coverage to Senate Republicans’ harmful block on extending long-term unemployment benefits. The failed measure received only minimal attention from national media throughout the day.

Good to see PBO at my Alma Mater. On the banks of the Red Cedar River, which back in the day was the place to go if a young couple wanted to be alone. But you had to be careful not to fall in or you would need tetanus shots.

Republicans reject invite to Farm Bill signing. Republicans can’t let their racists base see that they are trying to be respectful or friendly toward this black President. Do you know how mad those racists would be with them. Like that old women at Congressman Bridenstine town hall meeting, one said POTUS should be executed and another call him a SOB. This is the Republicans base, their racists base.

FLOTUS was interviewed on the Tom Joyner Morning show this morning

Michelle Obama just turned 50 and she’s looking great. The First Lady is a prime example of how health can help keep you looking and feeling great. With her Let’s Move campaign, Mrs. Obama wants to help all Americans become more aware of the importance of eating healthy and staying fit. This morning she joined the Tom Joyner Morning Show to talk about the Affordable Care Act, one of the most important pieces of legislation in her husband’s time in the White House. The Affordable Care Act makes it possible for millions of uninsured Americans to have affordable health insurance, but there are still some misconceptions about it. The best way for you to start to get more information about how the ACA can work for you is to head to the website, http://www.healthcare.gov and check out the options for yourself. Here’s why Mrs. Obama thinks it will be the best move you and your family can make this year.

TOM JOYNER: And on the phone is the First Lady of the United States, Mrs. Michelle Obama. Happy Black History Month.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Oh, Happy Black History Month to you all. How’s everybody doing?

    Tom Joyner: Everybody’s doing good.

SYBIL WILKES : How are you doing?

    JAY ANTHONY BROWN: Doing good.

TOM JOYNER: How are the girls doing?

Michelle Obama: They are growing up, and they need to stop it. (Laughter) But I can’t do anything about it.

Obama Isn’t Disengaged From the World

He just has a better understanding of how power works in the modern world.

    By Fred Kaplan

What many of these critics don’t like about Obama—what they mistakenly, or misleadingly, call “disinterest”—is his disinclination to go to war. And who can blame him? Two years after the last American soldier left Iraq, the place is ablaze in sectarian conflict, hundreds of civilians dying every week. Afghanistan awaits an uncertain fate as the troops head toward the exits there.

Some blame Obama for these failures, too. If only he’d kept a few thousand troops in Iraq and made an open-ended commitment to Afghanistan, they claim, the insurgents would be cowed, the central governments would be stable, and the people would be prosperous and secure.

To believe these claims requires a twisted view of the two wars and a deep misunderstanding of power in the modern world.

[Did you know the design of the new $100 was created by a 43-year-old African American?]:

The new sleek $100 bills were released by the U.S. Federal Reserve on October 8, 2013. The design was the creation of 43-year-old African American artist, Brian Thompson. Thompson walks in his father’s footsteps, who served as a cylinder maker at the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing in D.C. His father saw a call for artists and knew his son would fit the bill. The artist has been working at the bureau for 24 years and he can finally call the newly release $100 bill his own design.

Thompson started as an apprentice at the Bureau when he was19 years old.

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KY) does not have a home in his home state of Kansas and, when he needs an address in the state, uses one that belongs to two donors.

According to The New York Times, Roberts, who is facing a primary challenge from tea party favorite Milton Wolf, uses the address of donors C. Duane and Phyllis Ross for voter registration and a place to sleep occasionally when he travels to the state.

“I have full access to the recliner,” Roberts told the newspaper of the home in Dodge City, Kansas. “Nobody knows the state better than I do.”

Normally, they are supposed to Live in the states. Luggar lost partly because of that in 2012. Scott Brown tried that on the rep that won in 2012 in Mass. Elizabeth Dole tried to Use her mother’s residence in NC. Hagen, the current senator, hammered on that. Originally, senators were appointed. Then later election became the way to get senators elected. No senator no living in a state has ever been elected. They might have just moved there……some times called Carpetbaggers. But citizens like to elect those who Live in their states.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, along with other top congressional GOPers, have urged a federal court to block Obamacare subsidies for people who signed up for coverage through HealthCare.gov.

The group of eight — which includes Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn, Sens. Orrin Hatch (UT), Mike Lee (UT) and Rob Portman (OH) along with Reps. Dave Camp (MI) and Darrell Issa (CA) — filed an amicus brief Thursday on behalf of businesses and individuals who sued to stop the subsidies from flowing through the federal website, the Washington Times reported.

The case, being heard in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit next month, centers on whether people can receive tax subsidies through the federal website, HealthCare.gov. More than 30 states rely on HealthCare.gov, while 14 plus Washington, D.C., set up their own websites.

The plaintiffs argue that the Affordable Care Act, if held to its exact wording, allows the federal government to provide subsidies to people only if they sign up through a state-run website. The Obama administration says that Congress clearly intended for people to receive subsidies no matter whether they enrolled through a federal or state website.

    GOP ignores bill-signing invitations

    By Steve Benen

The president won’t be joined today by any Republicans, though it’s not for lack of effort.
The president arrived with several Democratic lawmakers and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Air Force One just after noon on Friday and was greeted by the mayor of East Lansing. The White House press secretary, Jay Carney, said that about 50 lawmakers — including many Republicans — had been invited to the bill signing, but that no Republicans had accepted the invitation. […]

“Everyone invited has to speak for himself or herself about their decision to attend or not attend,” Mr. Carney told reporters.

[Hmmmm! We need some new journalism schools world-wide!]

Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif gave a long interview to Germany’s Phoenix TV on Sunday (February 2) in Berlin, following his attendance at the Munich Security Summit.

Al-Monitor has transcribed portions of the interview, conducted in English by ZDF journalist Elmar Theveßen, concerning Zarif’s comnents on Israel.

Israeli media reports over the weekend said that Zarif in the interview suggested that if the Israelis and Palestinians reached a peace settlement, then Iranian recognition of Israel might be possible.

But as we listened to the interview, the video of which was released in the original English on Tuesday, it was the interviewer who asked Zarif if Israel and Palestine reached a resolution, would Iran then be prepared to recognize the state of Israel. And Zarif’s answer was more equivocal. While not explicitly ruling it out, Zarif said it was up to the Palestinians to determine if they were satisfied with the agreement, and that Iran would not interfere:

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 RUN, JOEY, RUN!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

So, my Joey is just so charming. If you EVER get the chance to be in his presence, DO IT!! He is so charming, so engaging, so “in your face and in your space” and so positive and happy, you can’t help but listen to his the ridiculous statistics and details that he always give when he gives a speech.

Joey, Sec’y Foxx and USRep Fattah were sitting in front of a Karl Bitter’s 1895 bas-relief, The Spirit of Transportation, in the North Waiting Room off the main concourse. Occupying almost the entire west wall, it depicts the progress of transportation; a central female figure sits in a horse-drawn carriage, while children cradle models of a steamship, steam locomotive and dirigible.

You can see it at the beginning of the video that is posted a few threads back here on TOD. Also, it is the same room that, at the time President-Elect Obama, soon-to-be FLOTUS and the weeMichelles (who aren’t so ‘wee’ anymore!) left from to pick up Joey in Wilmington, DE on their way to the inauguration. I was there then too. What a day!!

As always, I weaseled my way up to the front. He looked directly at me, shook my hand, held it and squeezed it just a little bit longer than the others!! It was a somewhat techy speech and a political and techy crowd along with volunteers in PA. OFA is strong in the area. (Sidenote: OFA is again flying under the radar. Organized, strong and community based. Let me just say – Democratic politicians who are trying to distance themselves from Pres. Obama are being really dumb. OFA ain’t NO JOKE!!)

Oh, how I hope Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. decides to run for President.

Lawmaker Hints At ‘Interesting Things’ In Latest Bridge Scandal Documents

“I’m not seeing anything really surprising or earth shattering — you know, interesting things that may or may not mean something,” Wisniewski said.

One thing Wisniewski said was clear from the documents he has seen so far is that the explanation officials initially gave for the closures is not plausible. Christie’s top appointees at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the bridge, originally attributed the closures to a traffic study.

“I don’t think anybody should be actively trying to determine whether or not there was really a study about traffic,” said Wisniewski. “It’s pretty clear when you look at all the material that that was just, just not real.”

Clinton will campaign for Grimes on Feb. 25 in Kentucky, The Kentucky Courier-Journal reported Friday.

The announcement came the same day that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) urged Democrats to return money Clinton helped raise. Paul’s call is the latest criticism from him against Clinton. The junior senator from Kentucky, who has endorsed McConnell, has repeatedly criticized Clinton as a “sexual predator.”
