    Did you know:

Rosa Parks known as “the mother of the freedom movement” because she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus, in 1965 she moved to Detroit and worked for U.S. Representative John Conyers as a secretary and receptionist until 1988. She was a gifted speaker but would donate all of her speaking fees to charity. At the end of her life she was being financially supported by the generosity of those in her community and was the first woman to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.

C-SPAN and its GOP talking points laden “Viewer Comments” has been unwatchable shit for many years.
The anchors might as well have a caption above their heads saying how can we spin this so it is another bad day for POTUS?
“Anchors” in this case is especially appropriate as they are heavy dead weight dragging the whole ship down. Like Fox “Anchors”—not new reporters.

So the new show is Ronan Farrow Daily and Joy Reid will be announcing her shows’ title on Rev. Al today.

Sandra Fluke is running for office in California, which apparently makes her a ripe target for Republicans in Maine.

A since-deleted post on the Maine GOP’s Facebook page on Wednesday showed that Fluke remains a favorite target for a party that continues to have an awkward relationship with contraception.

The post included a variation of the same joke Republicans have used repeatedly against Fluke, who drew the ire of conservatives in 2012 when she tried to testify before a House committee in support of the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate.

“Can’t afford birth control,” the post read. “Paid $1740 filing fee to run for Congress.”

Mike Tipping over at the Bangor Daily News has a screenshot of the post.

After flirting with the idea of running for retiring Rep. Henry Waxman’s (D-CA) seat, Fluke decided instead to run for state Senate in California.

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) has come out against President Obama’s plan to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour because “it’s too much, too fast.”

Arkansas is among the poorest states in the nation and stands to benefit hugely from a minimum wage hike. The state is just one of four with a lower minimum wage on the books than the pre-empting federal standard. About two-thirds of full-time Arkansan workers would be affected by a raise to $10.10.

Still, Pryor told Bloomberg he will oppose the measure. “I know $10.10 still isn’t a whole lot of money, but I think it’s too much, too fast,” Pryor said in an interview at the Capitol. “I’m not supportive of that.”

Apparently, the word in this area is that obamacare is radioactive.
They have somehow mangled obamacare to make sink run away from it.

The XXII Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony in Sochi starts Friday morning at 11 a.m. Eastern Time, but it won’t be aired in the U.S. until more than eight hours later thanks to NBC’s tape-delay policies. They aren’t streaming it live online, either, so if you’d like to join the rest of the world in watching the opening ceremony as it happens, we’ve prepared a few options for you.

Wow. Never heard that! When I was in elementary school, I had a recurring dream (thanks to our new black and white TV!) that the Lone Ranger rode me to school on his horse, and the other kids were so impressed! Looks like I had the wrong legend in my mind!

Jackie, HIS-story is exactly what that means. They could not handle the truth then and now. So much truth that has been hidden, overlooked, wiped out. It is amazing. I pray for the day when movies will tell the truth. Instead of Hollywood’s version. I am so passed being validated by their standards ever since Halley Berry and Denzel Washington received awards for characters that did not represent positive contributions AA have sacrificed in the making of American.

If we live long enough, surely one day many more truths will be taught and learned and not “hidden, overlooked, wiped out.”

But only if we keep at it, day by day, and pass the truth among ourselves as citizens of this country who thrive for honesty and a firm footing – like the old oral histories had to be saved among African Americans, as their only recourse.

HF2, thank you for this vital information. I wished I could share this with my two brothers who loved watching “The Lone Ranger” when they were boys. They reenacted the scenes. I can only imagine if they knew as boys during that time that the real Lone Ranger looked liked them what an impact that would have made in their lives.

I’m stuck with that miserable worm as my congressman. Literally, three blocks got carved out of the excellent Mike Quigley’s district, and I live on the WRONG side of the street and I’m stuck with Gutierrez.

All he cares about is immigration and bashing PBO. I hate the miserable little worm. What’s most aggravating is that the map in his office doesn’t reflect that the district line goes down the middle of the street, so I can’t even email him and bitch and phone calls make me even angrier.

      • 74 Linda
        February 6, 2014 at 12:14 pm

I saw him on book tv a while ago… He talked about being in the Oval Office and PBO yelled at him ” Get off My Back ” ! about immigration.

        • 75 57andfemale
          February 6, 2014 at 12:39 pm

He’s awful. He cares only about immigration. He was ready to scuttle ACA because it didn’t include undocumented immigrants. Let me describe his district: hard working, middle to upper-lower class. Tons of immigrants in his district who are documented or naturalized, working their butts off to buy a simple Chicago bungalow or start a small business. But he was ready to NOT give them health care. He’s a terrible representative.

I can’t picture PBO yelling at anyone especially a DEM. I can see him saying it in frustration but not yelling.

You’re right 57. And the Latino community doesn’t respect him at all! They see him as another fake hustler in the pockets of lobbyists and who doesn’t really have their best interests.

        • 78 57andfemale
          February 6, 2014 at 12:41 pm

Like I just commented to Linda, he doesn’t give a damn about the hard working middle class people in his own district, many of whom ARE immigrants or naturalized. It’s the United Nations in this district. He only cares about the undocumented, and if you’re not Hispanic he has absolute disdain for you. I want a robust, helpful immigration bill but I resent Gutierrez’ willingness to sacrifice everyone else for his one issue.

          • 79 hopefruit2
            February 6, 2014 at 12:46 pm

He probably pretends to “care” about the undocumented only because they have little power, don’t vote, and are easily exploited by con artists such as himself. The immigrants who are documented, can vote and know what’s what are not so easily fooled and manipulated.

            • 80 57andfemale
              February 6, 2014 at 12:52 pm

My Hispanic neighbors were PISSED that he was willing to ditch ACA. These people work hard. A lot of them are either self-employed or working for small businesses with no health care. They want their kids to go to college and were looking forward to being able to keep their kids on their policies. It was an outrageous insult.

Now you have to realize, he runs unopposed in this North side Chicago district. There is no choice. I went from having three dependable Democratic congress people with Durbin, PBO (and even Burris, who was just fine as a Dem vote) and Mike Quigley. Now I have the odious Mark Kirk for a Senator and the twit Gutierrez as my rep. I have to be on my toes all the time.

I know we on this blog, do not like this from Wendy, but I live in Oklahoma, right next to Texas, and I can understand this.

She is choosing her battles to win the war. Also, she is a native of Texas, and indeed the mindset is different from other parts of the country. She grew up surrounded by this thinking, so we can’t let one disagreement with her deter us from supporting her. That is what the emoprogs do to President Obama.

We have to look at the bigger picture with her. I don’t like it, I HATE guns, and my son and daughter-in-law in Texas also do, but this is a tactical decision for her. If she came out solidly against open carry, she would have NO chance of winning sad, but true. And, be sure, she would be asked about this some time in her campaign. She’s getting this behind her now.
