In a letter released by his lawyer, the official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.

“Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some,” the letter added.

Last week, as the scandal inevitably known as Bridgegate bubbled away, Governor Chris Christie delivered his fourth annual State of the State address, in Trenton. It was, to paraphrase A. A. Milne, a Sad Christie, a Melancholy Christie, a Small and Sorry Christie who spoke to state lawmakers. The Republican governor, normally the King of I, was all about comity and collaboration. He alluded only briefly to the incident in Fort Lee, and only vaguely. “Mistakes were clearly made,” he said. The very next day, the Wall Street Journal published a photograph of Christie chatting with David Wildstein, the official at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who apparently ordered up the George Washington Bridge lane closings. The picture, taken mid-backlog, was plainly at odds with the Governor’s assertion that he and Wildstein had scarcely spoken in years. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Assembly and Senate, both controlled by Democrats, initiated a new round of investigations aimed at tying Christie even more directly to the tieup. It’s too early to say what these investigations will uncover; on Thursday, subpoenas were issued to seventeen people, including the Governor’s chief spokesman, his former campaign manager, and his chief counsel. Already, though, the scandal has done so much damage to the Christie administration and to every other organization it has touched that it almost doesn’t seem to matter.

I don’t know if I am wishing that Ralph Cramden go to LOCK UP Raw or LOCK UP Indiana. But I am pleased that his big dreams of walking from NJ to 16 Pennsylvania Avenue are fading. What a bully! I said it repeatedly to my friends that he had to know something even if he didn’t personally order the closing of the lanes. He let it go because his handlers were doing for him what he wanted to do without expressed order.

I remember Christie was then at 32% approval and He went out to Chicago to appear on Oprah with Zuckerberg, Mayor Booker and a few others for $100M from the FaceBook Billionaire.

Happy Friday Linda, and keep on smiling, if you are referring to the Christie cream……

I will NEVER forget how he hit the airwaves bashing President Obama after hugging the President after Sandy. He caved to his right wing fans, who placed him up on a pedestal, after they complained about him being chummy with the President. He hit the airwaves ripping into President Obama and the morning jokester loved it.

Well, President Obama didn’t have words for what the Christie had done. Being the class act that he is, he sat back, and watched his enemy become “his footstool (Psalm 23).” Sometimes you just don’t have to do anything………but : )

They think the worst of their own and the best of the GOP thugs. There have been NO – NONE – NOT ANY – events in the many years of PBO in politics that the GOP and their bff the US Media could find to attack him in any way whatsoever – yet they try – again and again.

The dirty tricks by the GOP keep on coming – and the so called supporters of the President don’t want to talk about it – unless they have a photograph of the money changing hands. Under their rules no-one would ever be convicted of a crime. They see the smoking gun – and want to see the bullet.

Christie very nearly got away with this – he kept it quiet through an election – and it was a local paper that just kept digging – because the closure of the bridge lanes – was just weird. The political media, and many democrats – just buried their heads and gave 2017 to Christie the bully.

Take the long view. When David Axelrod tweeted this “I’ve said from the start Christie could survive, so long as no smoking gun leads to him.” He already knew there was a smoking gun. Very smart DA!!

The missus had two shifts cancelled on her last night, as both patients passed on within an hour of each other. However, she was called this morning, and the guy who runs the agency said he wanted to give her first choice of shifts. Yeah, my missus rocks.

Only if the Lt Gov has to resign too. Then the leader of the GOP in the senate would take over until an election is held…… for the GOP leader is a minority leader.

When McGreevy(sp) resigned in the early 2004 or so, the senate Dem Leader took over for then, NJ had No Lt Gov. It was after that that the position was created. This current Lt Gov is the 1st elected Lt Gov.

    • 113 Lovepolitics2008
      January 31, 2014 at 5:05 pm

Yep. Christie is now toxic for the GOP so they’ll destroy him as fast as possible. They’ll force him to resign ASAP.

One other reason this whole thing could go faster than we expected: with a quick Christie resignation, republicans hope to stop the numerous investigations into the activities of the party in New Jersey. The Lt Gov is in hot waters, as are many republican appointees.

I bet they hope that if the “big fish” Christie admits wrong doing and goes to jail, all the other investigations will go away. And/or the media won’t keep digging the dirt.

Let’s hope the local media in New Jersey, and that MSNBC and NYT keep doing their work. There’s a hell of a clean up to do in NJ politics.

I really, really wonder how Christie will react; he’s in a grieving process right now. He wanted the presidency so badly…

The arrogance is breathtaking. These guys seem to think the state government is their private play thing.

It’s not. It is owned by the people of the state, and there are laws about public disclosure of its workings.

Looks like it’s time to take your state back, NJ!

Jonathan Altar is a jerk-off. He’s telling Ed to be cautious when the letter is clear Wildstein has the goods on CC.

He just said that we can’t forget that it was Wildstein that went to the bridge at 6 AM to make sure the lanes were closed.

        So ?

We wouldn’t want Phil to have to apologize for NOTHING again! Stupid shits. Anyway…is Alter a journalist or a lawyer?

Jon Alter can be cautious that is what he is paid to do as a Journalist when all the facts are not in. I have no problem with. Ed Schultz doesn’t for he is a Pundit.

Once JAlter has all the goods and he is still as reported up thread, then may he be visited by Journalist Karma.

These days the line between journo and pundit is real slim to nonexistent. He’s not cautious when he wants to criticize PBO when all the facts are not in yet. He can mouth off with confidence then.

All we need to know about Alter:

Two months after the September 11 attacks, Alter wrote an article for Newsweek called “Time to think about torture” which became one of his best known[by whom?] articles. In the column, he suggested that the U.S. might need to “rethink … old assumptions about law enforcement”.

Stating that “some torture clearly works”, he suggested the nation should “keep an open mind about certain measures to fight terrorism, like court-sanctioned psychological interrogation”, and consider transferring some prisoners to other countries with less stringent rules on torture.

Alter lives in Montclair, New Jersey

When you consider the track record of New Jersey Governors, Christie wouldn’t exactly be setting a precedent if he is indeed found to have been deceiving the public and committing abuses of power. What does bring a feeling of schadenfreude is that Christie has clearly been behind a propaganda campaign to portray himself as bipartisan when he has in fact been bullying Democrats to give into supporting him. He cultivated this phony image of himself as “a good guy” who likes to reach across the aisle and work with both parties…when he was in fact the opposite, someone who extorted and blackmailed politicians to get what he wanted.
One can only imagine how destructive a Christie presidency could have been. And the key words are “could have been” because once the rats start turning on the biggest rat…that’s the end of the biggest rat.

I think it highlights the fact that PBO would never, and has never done anything like this. He truly thinks negotiating with people – without either side having to be bribed, or give bribes – is the true way to bipartisanship. He has been attacked for not “being out and about” with republicans – who would have LOVED to have something to hang on him

The President shows what he had to learn growing up – everything you do will be evaluated three times – just because …

Nena, a jungle he created and thought he was Tarzan( even though can’t imagine him swinging on any vine).
The point is he was manipulating and using people just because he could. It would not surprise me at all that Kelly woman thought she was his Jane. As much “power” that he thought he had someone had to be pumping his huge ego( no pun intended here). I just can’t stand to see another wife “stand by her man” as he falls from grace. I am not saying not to support him. But I personally would not be there on camera.
Let’s see how this plays out. The bigger they are, the harder they fall( pun definitely intended)

So glad this pompous arrogant prideful man’s evil character is being unveiled before he got to the WH gate. A Bully like him will cry like a baby when he falls from grace(remember I am not a crook) and I am not in the forgiving mood right now after all the people who are still hurting from Sandy and flashbacks of being stuck for hours on the GWB. You have to live in NYC to understand this and an AA to be subjected to the racist NJ police officer and state troopers. All who voted for this pathetic man including some chicken shit Dems.

Send them all to the Big House. Let them write their books(after the fact). Box office movies followed by Broadway hits.
Maybe then just maybe GOP will humble themselves and join the rest of us moving this country ahead.
I doubt that as long as the KKKoch bros. have money to spare.
