First lady Michelle Obama applauds as US Army Ranger Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg is acknowledged by President Obama during the State of the Union address
Our President knocked it out of the park in the State of the Union last evening!!!
Just because President Obama did not go on a rampage nor use the bullying attacks that some pundits wanted him to use, he still effectively reprimanded the GOP for their obstructionist tactics. By being the classy, thoughtful, and insightful person that he is, the President gave a SOTU that will be remembered as a recounting of what has been accomplished, a highlighting of the positive impact of the successes of this administration, an acknowledgement of those who played a part in these successes, an admonition of the work that is yet to be completed, and a call to action to all responsible Americans…rather than as an attack on the GOP.
For my sanity, I relied on the TOD village posts rather than have to filter through (filter out) the asinine comments that most certainly would be heard from the MSM pundits. As usual, Chipsticks, UT (Nerdy Wonka), the TOD twitterers and posters did an outstanding job covering the SOTU. A heartfelt THANKS!!!
David Corny doesn’t agree with you about POTUS SOTU speech swbluega, he think POTUS should have attack the Republicans more. But don’t worry, I agree with you. 🙂
😆 Anniebella, obviously POTUS is not concerned what David Korn thinks either. POTUS did the SOTU *HIS* way; not how so many others said he should do it.
It’s amazing that cities as large as those in metro Atlanta continue to be blindsided and handicapped by snow and ice. Major interstates have been gridlocked since yesterday afternoon and there are people still trying to get home after having spent hours on the road – some running out of gas; others giving up and abandoning their cars. Some schools had to house students overnight because they were unable to get home. Even some Kroger grocery stores opened its doors to shelter stranded people.
Hopefully, people will soon be able to get to the warmth and safety of their homes and the city will quickly thaw out.
It’s practice, SW. If you’re accustomed to snow, you roll with it. If you’re a metro area for which snow is a novelty, you get flustered by it. Many areas just don’t have the plow equipment or the backup plans they are going to need in a changing climate.
Leadership feels they are prepared from an equipment standpoint…especially after the ice storm in 2011. Just seems like a wrench gets thrown in despite their preparation. This time, the problem -at least in part – is that they can’t get the equipment where they need it. Between the early release of students, businesses closing early, etc., plus what those in charged deemed to be the uncertainty of the forecasted snow, it just created a traffic condition that was just exacerbated as the day progressed and the temperature dropped.
You’re right. I heard Mayor Reid on the radio this morning. Part of what exacerbated the problem also was that despite forecasts that were spot on target about when the weather & roads would be at their worst, schools, businesses & govt agencies, release people to go home all at the same time — right when the roads got bad. The result: Total the gridlock.
One of my co-workers husband is still on the interstate downtown after getting stuck behind of other stranded motorists. Kept warm by turning car on every few minutes. Now getting low on gas.
I know that a lot of people who live in Atlanta moved here from somewhere else and like to prove that they *KNOW* how to drive in the snow. But I am almost at a point where I don’t care if it’s an over-reaction; err on the side of caution and plan to shut things down when there is a reasonable prediction for snow. If the weather turns out not to be so bad, at least you don’t have people stranded in their cars overnight or having to abandon their vehicles…
All the headbands in the world won’t make this duck idiot a tiny fraction of the patriot that Cory Remsburg is. Easy to spout off on television and wave weapons around. Easy to pretend guns make you powerful. But put them in the same situation as Cory, the pain, the frustration, the agony of physical therapy with no cameras and no millions of dollars in salary and they would collapse like a spent balloon.
Wow – that nails the contrast, AMK! It was so touching how Sgt. Remsburg kept turning toward our First Lady Michelle and patting his heart. I think he has the same kind of crush on her we do.
I loved the speech. The content was excellent but on the whole did not surprise me. What I loved was the tone. No, he did not lambast the Republicans – he was almost playful. It kills me that I really believe that people like John Boehner like the President as a person and could probably work with him on reasonable solutions, but feel bound by their politics to fight him every inch of the way.
I also feel it’s part of the GOP strategy to make the public hate politicians as a group, bringing down everyone. They predict that their voters will still come out on election days while independents and enough Democrats are disgusted with it all and just stay home. That malaise factor is something we have to fight so hard to overcome in 2014.
The media keep talking about the President’s low approval rating and I never hear that his ratings are fabulous compared to that of Congressional Republicans. But as I said, repubs want to keep everyone’s down. Sigh – so much to do for 2014. But we will do it.
You’re onto something, Elly! We must be our own media, as wiser people than me at TOD keeping reminding us so our personal contacts know what’s at stake in 2014 and beyond..
PBO has never had to reinvigorate himself. He has always been this dynamic. The myopic, biased media chooses to ignore it and so spout stupid stuff about his lame duck status. It isn’t the president who changes; its that sometimes the media wakes up from its hate-induced coma.
Oh how I wish that reporter would have told that first class punk that if you get in my face again and threaten me with violence I will defend myself, I don’t give a dam if you are a Congressman. It seem like some body has a anger program, where is the Speaker to speak out against such behavior?
LOL! This is a riot! Harold Ford is disappointed, a democrat mind you.
He says the President should have said I will approve Keystome if you give me natural has, and if I give you no Social security or Medicaid for people under 45 then give me infrastructure spending!
Well, Harold is smoking crack if he thinks that’s fair!
That is all!
Jovie, Harold Ford may have a D after his name, but he’s no more a Democrat than I’m the Easter Bunny. If Harold is so smart, let him run for president, convince over 50 million people to vote for him and do it twice. Maybe then he’d have more credibility than a gnat.
Jovie, Last time I check President Obama didn’t ask for or need Harold Ford opinion on anything. It’s a shame what a big disappointment this man Harold Ford have become.
Just dropping in to say how great it is/was to have this haven to come to during last night’s SOTU and this morning where we share our love for our President Barack Obama! Thank you thank you thank you.

This is an incredible story that has been going on over a year. From the General found sleeping to an aircraft transporting unsecured nuclear weapons across the country and then leaving the aircraft parked on the airport runway overnight…completely unguarded.
Where has the media been on this one?
Cheer up, and wrap up when you go to pick him up! It won’t be for much longer…..we hope …..and pray. Though in all honesty, these days I’d choose very cold over very hot.
GOOOOOD Morrrrnnniinngggg, Chipstar, Danny O and TODville!! I’m still so happy from the SOTU!! What a great POTUS we have. SO proud of what he said and how he said it. BRAVO!!
In other news, Manchin actually listened, came to his senses and withdrew his support from the bill to add more sanctions on Iran. Miracle.
Good MooOOOoorrrnnnning, Meta! Isn’t it just great to be alive with Pres O at 1600? I don’t think there is a single thing the GOPs could do today to dim my euphoria. Our President walked into that chamber and laid out the facts – what he and his Admin have done to date to move the country (and world) along, what they hope to accomplish going forward, AND what the GOP Congress has been blocking! And he did it all with poise, and style and no acrimony – just the facts! I ♥ ♥ ♥ the atmosphere he created in that room, and in retrospect, I particularly liked the fact that Duck Dynasty (with his American headband) and his spouse had to sit there and listen! 😀
Hi meta. Me, too. I stayed up last night watching it again. I am still giddy. PBO was brilliant as usual and just on point. Hmmm. Manchin had better come to his senses. That was silly, trying to screw this deal up.
Wonder, in passing, if this made Begich feel better about himself when he awoke this morning? PBO’s SOTU speech made me feel great. I’m still glowing around the edges. How about you, Linda?
There you go! Your heart, and your blood pressure, thank you. 😀 Begich? Neither he nor anyone else can prevent this President from making an impact – PBO already has!
Africa, what does that mean in Florida? Did you actually have stuff falling from the sky? Or is it just a little colder than normal? Spill the real beans.
Good morning TOD.
I am walking on air this am.
Our President, just by being himself, turned GOP/MSM hopes to dust last night.
They’ve been talking about his low poll numbers. How his agenda is stalled.
I guess they thought that this time maybe they got him! The President will bow down to his GOP TP MSM overlords. Or whatever. Because that is what they want. Capitulation.
Presient Obama strode confidently down the aisle and from the jump celebrated his achievements and those to come.
The Wars are ending.
A mother got asthma meds for her son for the first time.
The deficit is in half. We are less dependent on foreign oil that ever. Millions of jobs added. And so on.
And we are not afraid of Repub obstruction.
We will go around you if we must. But you are always invited to participate. What you cannot do and will not do is rule.
President Obama will be in office 3 more years and not a second will be a lame moment.
Exactly, Vicki. “Not one second will be a lame moment.” PBO didn’t run for the presidency so he could sit around and listen to Republican punditry. He has a vision and a mission and he will spend each day fulfilling it. He came to help the maximum number of people and he will.
I used to have an account at the Costco’s. Sorry I can’t be there either. Charles County is a bit of a mess this morning with all the snow on the ground and the schools are closed down.
This address was a grand slam. It touched on most of the major social and economic areas that the majority of the country can agree on. The president’s remarks mentioned marriage equality, immigration reform, equal pay for women, economic inequality, education, climate change, alternative energy, closing Gitmo, and jobs. His remarks were a virtual Democratic checklist of important issues.
The proof that America is moving left can be found in this State Of The Union. Talk of tax cuts, deficit reduction, and spending cuts was nowhere to be found. America is becoming a liberal nation, and the stale ideas of the GOP are holding the nation back. Barack Obama was speaking the words that his changing nation wants to hear. America is changing and growing, and Obama’s leadership is delivering real change that you can believe in.
Good ☺️Morning Chips, I missed part oh his speech last night. When I get home. I home I find it. Somewhere on the tube. The clinic didn’t have C-Span so ended up watching the last of it on MSNBC. Actually they were fairly decent except for Hayes. He irritates be. Tweety was actually sane. Waiting to see the Dr & get the results.
Morning, Roberta! I think you can find the entire speech at wh.gov. If I got it right, this is the link. [If it doesn’t try going to wh.gov, then click ‘photos and videos’ and see if you can access it there. Have yourself a great Obama-filled Wednesday.
Ex-GOP Guv: Republicans Think They Can Solve Their Problems By Putting A Woman On Camera
“It’s hard for me to phrase this politely: Sometimes Republicans think that just putting a woman up front means somehow that women are going to feel good about the party,” Whitman said. “It is not about the messenger. It’s about the message. And until we figure that one out — while it’s nice that we have a woman as a spokesperson — if the message itself doesn’t get changed a bit, it’s not going to work.”
Ex-GOP Guv: Republicans Think They Can Solve Their Problems By Putting A Woman On Camera http://t.co/I2askgHPM3
Republicans just don’t get it, it’s not about putting a woman on camera. It’s about allowing a women to make their own decisions when it comes to their body, it’s about valuing women enough to pay them the same amount of money they pay men for doing the same kind of job, it’s about the Republicans policies which says they don’t value women.
So here’s what Rep Grim actually said to the NY reporter last night after the SOTU. OMG. He’s definitely wound a little too tight…..campaign finance problems got him down??
I’m still buzzing over last nights speech as well! loved it, so honest, real and emotional at times too. even better is PBO getting out and about today and tomorrow to continue to push us forward while all the GOP has is more sour grapes to suck on.
Bye all, I’m off toe MIL’s 94th birthday celebration. Then we travel further on to babysit our gorgeous granddaughter. See you all on Friday!! Have a great day.
SERIOUS QUESTION – Does anyone know how to clean up your twitter ‘photos and videos’? There is so much repetition in mine that I’d like to delete all except one of each pic/vid. What’s the secret? (And please don’t tell me to go read it up in twitterland. I’m a slow reader, remember? )
I’m about to post something that many might disagree with, but that’s what I saw:
The Duck Dynasty fella didn’t look too happy standing with all those GOP reps/Senators and taking pics. Something tells me that he had an internal dialogue going on last night – and a conflicted one at that. In the picture of him and his wife, that many people interpreted as “crass” he looks as though he is actually listening to what the President is saying, and heeding those words. The FOX NEWS/MSM caricature of PBO is not what he personally witnessed last night and it’s bothering him. Something tells me that if no one was looking, Duck fella would’ve rather taken a pic with PBO than just about any GOP rep/senator at that event last night.
I call it being in the presence of and sprinkled by magic Obama dust! We could all think of others to whom that happened. (You could be right about this particular incident, too, and I hope you are.)
For some reason I suddenly remembered that Tnmtgirl, La(y)la, goes in for surgery today. It is slated for today, right? Let’s remember to uphold her in positive and healing thoughts. May the hands of the surgeons involved be sure and safe, and may she bounce back quickly and in great health afterwards!
good morning or I should say good night here in Yokosuka, Japan
Good evening gregsgyrl63!

Stem cell researchers are heralding a “major scientific discovery”, with the potential to start a new age of personalised medicine.
Scientists in Japan showed stem cells can now be made quickly just by dipping blood cells into acid.
Stem cells can transform into any tissue and are already being trialled for healing the eye, heart and brain.
The latest development, published in the journal Nature, could make the technology cheaper, faster and safer.

She is right of course….but….I clearly remember her ” message ” saying the air quality was safe after the 911 attack.
oops
Republicans just don’t get it, it’s not about putting a woman on camera. It’s about allowing a women to make their own decisions when it comes to their body, it’s about valuing women enough to pay them the same amount of money they pay men for doing the same kind of job, it’s about the Republicans policies which says they don’t value women.
G’morning Chips and TOD! 🙂 🙂 Everyone is still buzzing and chirping from our President’s SOTU last night…. Great – I will join in!
Good moooooooorning Hopefruit, good moooooorning everyone!

CONUNDRUM: Majorities of Republicans favor raising the minimum wage so why can’t it get a vote in the GOP House?
—————————————————-
Apart from wasting time voting for the repeal of the ACA over 40 times, what have House Republicans voted for since taking over in 2010? NADA.
So here’s what Rep Grim actually said to the NY reporter last night after the SOTU. OMG. He’s definitely wound a little too tight…..campaign finance problems got him down??

Straight up thuggish behavior. Which politician threatens a reporter while on cameras after the SOTU?
I’m still buzzing over last nights speech as well! loved it, so honest, real and emotional at times too. even better is PBO getting out and about today and tomorrow to continue to push us forward while all the GOP has is more sour grapes to suck on.
Bye all, I’m off toe MIL’s 94th birthday celebration. Then we travel further on to babysit our gorgeous granddaughter. See you all on Friday!! Have a great day.
Have a perfect day Jackie!
Both Snowden and Putin got nominated for Nobel Peace Prize…Hmmmm…..
The very homophobic Putin?!!!! What?
You are kidding, Snowden and Putin nominated for N.P.P, what a darn joke. Well you guys congratulate me cause I am waiting for my nomination too.
Anniebella, you are FAR more deserving than S & P!
SERIOUS QUESTION – Does anyone know how to clean up your twitter ‘photos and videos’? There is so much repetition in mine that I’d like to delete all except one of each pic/vid. What’s the secret? (And please don’t tell me to go read it up in twitterland. I’m a slow reader, remember? )
Chuck Todd Romney has nothing…..
This oughta throw all the haters into rehab…
WOW! Yet the Talking Heads see things so differently. Wonder why.
Rise and Shine.
