Thank you NW for the summary of President Obama and VP Biden’s meeting with the Mayors!

    Regarding Ukraine:

    Reality ….

“What is the single greatest cause of Ukraine’s tragic strife, the primary cause of so much grief in the region and beyond? Take a look back at the Euromaidan timeline. Think how it began, this latest round of deadly instability featuring tanks, live gunfire, kidnappings, deaths, the state tweeting sinister mass threats – with lots worse to come. This time it began because President Viktor Yanukovych pushed through laws to criminalize demonstrations, in order to prevent a repeat of the first round. What triggered the first round of demonstrations? The greatest Lord of Misrule in our time: Vladimir Putin.

Putin has spent the last 15 years shamelessly berating America for destabilizing interventions around the world. Look at his record: Chechnya, Georgia, Moldavia, Ukraine, Syria. And all those Russian journalists and whistleblowers who paid with their lives. For some reason nobody holds Putin to account for the cumulative horrors of his rule. An American President with that record would be driven to derangement by his own media, let alone by global opinion.”

The GOP really don’t understand the concept of “overreach.”

I saw upChuck one day last week and was shocked that he said Christie had learned the lesson of GOP overreach on Benghazi and was thus toning down his response. (I think that was the gist, it was last week and I don’t have a clear memory of his spiel, but am certain he mentioned GOP overreach on Benghazi.)

I be talking to myself on the last thread – how unusual!

Wow Rachel gets some interesting stories – I had forgotten how good she can be – when she stops attacking the Obama administration. No wonder her ratings are heading upwards – hope she realizes this.

And the Texas legislature wants scientific proof of the link between fracking and earthquakes – that will be a first! They don’t believe scientic proof in regard to the age of the earth – and most other things

Rachel on Letterman tonight – I think I see that a day late in my world.

    • January 23, 2014 at 10:22 pm

I got a lot of pushback here whenever I recommended a Rachel show, so I stopped doing so.

I really hate that she has Jeremy Scahill and other emoPutins on her show, and that she doesn’t consider the alternatives had puppet R-money won in 2012.

But her show is the only daily show that does investigative journalism, and her staff combs through the vast NBC archives to bring us information that we may have forgotten or never known.

Whatever you think of Rachel, her staff is stellar.

      • January 23, 2014 at 10:29 pm

I’ve never watched her show but I consider Steve Benen among the very best.

Sadly her attitude on some issues turned many supporters off – I’m not sure she had to do 10 days of Christie – but it seemed to bring folks back – and tonight was a collection of great investigations.

I find it interesting that ALL the attacks on PBO resulted in nothing – despite the months the media spent on looking at, talking about and investigating.

I think I was tired of turning on every pundit and seeing/hearing negative statements about the President. Tonight I heard Lawrence praising the President for health care – long time since I have heard such a heartfelt comment from a pundit – anywhere.

The #GOP have been comprehensively introduced to where rock meets hard place, thanks to President Obama’s steadfast refusal to negotiate ANYTHING regarding the ‘debt ceiling.’ Just want all of our Democratic friends to know they should just sit back, order another bag of popcorn and their beverage of choice and enjoy the self-immolation this issue is for the GOP as it inches ever closer to extinction at the polls on 4 Nov 2014.

It is my opinion that whether the pill is used for contraceptive or other reasons should never be part of the discussion. What medications a woman chooses to use is entirely her own choice and there is no need to discuss when why or how.

The pill was created – by a man – for women to use to control the number of children they might have. As a young woman of the 60s it was the invention of the century & I have not changed that opinion as I age. That it has advantages to women outside of reproduction is an add on – but never the main objective. By suggesting otherwise, we empower people like Hukabee to continue their assaults on women who believe in birth control – and given the size of modern families compared to the pre pill days – a large majority of women 18 – 50 use some method to control their fertility.

japa21 had a post earlier today that said what Dana Bash tweeted.

This is such a stupid discussion IMO. It gets attention because it’s about sex, but there are so many other substantial reasons to rage against the GOP.

        January 24, 2014 at 4:22 am

Why is this “a stupid discussion”? I am not sure this is simply about sex. First, I think it’s Mike Huckabee who insults women who use birth control by asserting that they are easily duped by Democrats and are hence incapable of controlling their libidos. Second, and even more egregiously, he puts the entire responsibility of human sexuality on women. I suppose Huckabee, like some of the fundamentalist Christians I know, still blames women for what Eve supposedly did to Adam. The truth of the matter is that we men, including Rev. Mike Huckabee, suffer no consequences for failing to rein in our libidos. Until Huckabee, and all of us men, can experience pregnancy and the entire process women go through to give birth, he needs to STFU!

US authorities have arrested two men in California for hacking email accounts and stealing nude photos to post on a so-called “revenge porn” website.

Hunter Moore, 27, and Charles Evens, 24, face charges including conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information and aggravated identity theft.

The men reportedly posted explicit images, submitted without the victim’s permission, to IsAnyoneUp.com.

If guilty, they face decades in prison.

The U.S. Attorney for New Jersey has issued a subpoena for documents to both the Christie for Governor reelection campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee, an attorney for both organizations confirmed today.

According to attorney Mark Sheridan, the subpoenas request documents from the two organizations in relation to the investigation into lane diversions at the George Washington Bridge in September.

Both organizations are represented by the law firm of Patton Boggs, which has offices in Newark. In a statement to NJ.com, Sheridan said the following:

“The Christie for Governor re-election campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee received subpoenas for documents from the U.S. Attorney’s office, in addition to the subpoena the campaign previously received from the state legislative committee. All three subpoenas focus on the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge. The campaign and the state party intend to cooperate with the U.S. Attorney’s office and the state legislative committee and will respond to the subpoenas accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the investigation by the Assembly committee is expected to merge Monday with the probe underway by a Senate committee. Response to the subpoenas issued in that investigation are due in early February.

Very apparent that the news is all bad for Repubs. The Joke was absolutely desperate to come up with ‘Obama is bad, bad, bad’ stuff today. Obama is secretive! Obama does not relate to people! Obama is mean to Repubs, never invites them over! Ha! It was sheer desperation, with b-word Nicolle Wallace as his back-up, screaming “Most Secretive in History!”

I gather there was an item in the NY Times they were all quoting – 75 items on GOPers behaving badly – and Joe picks the one.

Nicole Wallace is one of the weird – support the GOP women – she attempts to support every inane GOP comment by saying – “Well when Obama did …….. – this was not as bad as that”. Hard to image the stupid of any woman who supports the GOP. She also managed to say this am that PBO really didn’t win in 2008, 2012 – the problem was the GOP candidates wiped themselves out in the primaries!!
