CNN has 2 stations in US and provides the Least of News. MSNBC devotes most of it’s time to Opinions and politics. Fox does propaganda. BBC is intermittently on in Most of US markets.
With more ways to get information, most are left behind from information. Internet is great. But when truth is harder to get. Those delivering the news need to be more dedicated to Facts, accuracy and deep Content driven analysis.
In a democracy, a factually based Independent News Media is essential for Our survival.

I really hate that in my world the trucking lobby won over the rail lobby (government owned is the rail) – and most transportation is now via road. Whatever is in these enormous trucks should be carried by rail – trucks may be needed for local distribution – but I found the photo of that crash obscene – given the number of trucks involved.

I didn’t realize POTUS was speaking to the conference of mayors. That’s a very good audience for him. They are on the ground helping their people and aware of what is needed. I read an article about the conference and it sounds like the mayors get along much better then. I would love to hear the questions they have for him and his answers as well as the speech. Smith is a GOP mayor and president of the group. They are very upbeat about the economy.
According to RT, the opposition leaders and Yanukovych have reached a deal. However, RT then goes on to say that the protestors are uncontrollable. But, it’s RT.
I’ve seen the reports, LL, but, as you noted in the previous thread, we need independent confirmation and that is not yet forthcoming.
I read the RT piece. The fact that they didn’t literally use the words “mad dogs” in describing the protestors was the only thing lacking.
Watched tweety discussion on Huckabee (I love that spell check prefers Huckleberry) – I know it’s obvious – and there for all to see – but GOP pundits (MJ the top example) and GOP guests CANNOT allow the other person to speak. They overtalk ALL the time – whereas the democrats allow the others to speak and then attempt to give their point of view.
This is where the media is truly shown as carrying water for the GOP. They should be turning off the mike of the person who should be listening but they enable the conduct – even if they don’t agree with it.

There was NO objection to contraception until “that guy” included it in the ACA no-copay list. It makes absolutely no sense that they continue with this. Catholic women included, the majority of women of child bearing age, married or not married, have and will use contraception.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not Catholic, but Pope Francis seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
I know that there’s disgruntlement among Catholics because the Pope hasn’t embraced birth control and women’s issues (such as women priests) but these things take time, much like the issue of priest celebacy.
Women have been waiting a long time since they thought the church was going to help them in the 1960s – I understand their disgruntlement – will the church ever end the stupid in regard to birth control.
I also find it amazing that ONE man has so much power over female reproduction – we attack those in the GOP who want that power.
I think Pope Francis and Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are gifts from GOD.
I think they all arrived “on scene” just when they were needed! Total gifts from God. We shouldn’t waste them, in my opinion. We should listen and learn, because isn’t it all about our progressing as a human race?

I think he has a very responsive and potentially powerful audience with mayors. They work together, they get things done and they are in a position to influence state and US congresspeople as well as governors. POTUS is talking about how he can empower them with EO’s and phone calls rallying support. And aren’t the mayors impressive! Dealing with climate change on their own and other really important actions. Makes me want to learn more about this organization and individual mayors. I also noticed them standing up and filming him when he stepped up to the podium. POTUS deals with the attention so gracefully and with strength. There is no doubt he is the man in charge. If there was a Q&A session I’d like to see that. Thanks, Bob!

Our Knoxville mayor (D) is part of his climate change group. She has done lots of “green” work/advancements here, many of them begun and supported by Gov. Haslam when he was mayor. She ran against him, losing of course. Then he brought her into his administration and they worked very well together.
That’s a great idea. It would be great for everyone to be able to read about a consortium of mayors putting their heads together to share progress and recommendations for best practices.
