Nice of you to leave the door open 🙂 I just watched Midsomer Murders on the TV – probably a 4th time repeat – but such tongue in cheek British humor – wish all crime could be solved in this way.

99ts, I love the Midsomer Murder. Thought I would really miss John Nettles, but the new Barnaby is great. Good writing, good cast.

The new Barnaby and Jones are a hoot – their interaction is such fun. I find it sad that Jones is leaving – think he has been the best offsider

Oh, so happy to meet other Midsomer fans!!! We LOVE them. We too were worried about Neil Dudgeon taking over, but so enjoy his persona and the interaction with Jones. I read somewhere that when Queen Elizabeth met John Nettles, she told him she didn’t think she’d visit his county……too dangerous.
The murder methods are so ingenious. I think my favorite one was the loaded wine bottles fired from a catapult……what was yours?

                Hi Carolyn

There have been many stories about the murder capital of the UK – midsomer 🙂

John Nettles in his youth was Bergerac – solving crime on the Channel Island of Jersey. Apparently when there was a real murder there (very rare event) it was thought John should try to solve it – but unsuccessful.

I prefer murder methods that avoid the gore – poison would be my weapon of choice.

I remember Bergerac. One reason I like Midsomer Murders is that they avoid gore. The murder methods are creative….the characters are so rich, the dialogue is literate, the acting is excellent……all in all totally delightful. We first ran across M M on our Arts & Entertainment channel years ago on Sunday afternoons. That was when A & E showed quality TV…..now, it’s Duck Dynasty!!!
We bought every DVD set of MM, and would preorder them as soon as available. However, now Acorn streams them, and we joined Acorn for that show and many others.

You’re the one! We always get mad when we grind coffee in the store and someone’s leftover “vanilla bean” grounds infiltrates our coffee, wrecking the whole bag, according to us. We always blame the church circle ladies. But it was you, libra! 🙂 We have recently finally invested in our own grinder so we no longer have to endure this horrible assault on our morning pleasure. 🙂
Still—-enjoy your vanilla nut, libra—–I’m not really mad at you about it, about drinking the kind of coffee you prefer. 🙂

Some fool on MSNBC says the governor will come out of this clean – they really are doing everything to resuscitate Christie – just imagine if the President’s staff had done something like this – the media would be screaming for his impeachment – every last one of the lying pundits – every single one. But Christie – the man of the people – they all just love him.

Anyhoo – I stayed awake to listen to the next show – so it better be good – the Mayor who got virtually no recovery funds – despite promises.

99ts. they didn’t explain what ‘coming out clean’ means did they? If it means, he might avoid jail time, they may be right. If they think he’s a viable candidate for president, they’re dead wrong. Christie is ‘beloved’ only in their own minds.

    But what do conservatives want?

Even those Republicans demanding a “bold vision” from their leaders aren’t articulating what that means. Several House conservatives admit there are splits about what should be included on the 2014 to-do list, and that divide could take a while to sort out.

“This is clearly going to be an internal struggle of the Republican party: Are we going to just be the party that says ‘hey the other side is worse’ or are we going to show why our side is actually better for the American people or the public?” Labrador asked.

He and other conservatives are worried that the national party has become too closely aligned with big business, and instead should be targeting its agenda and message at small businesses and individuals.

    no shit, sherlock.

During the Murdoch hacking scandal….this surfaced……

The background: A New Jersey start-up company, Floorgraphics (FGI), was created to sell large advertising decals placed on the floors of grocery stores. In 1999, FGI’s founders, Richard and George Rebh, met with Carlucci who at the time was CEO of News America Marketing, an in-store advertising division of News Corp. (In 2005, Carlucci added the title of Post publisher to his resume.) At the lunch, after the Rebhs rebuffed Carlucci’s offer to buy the company, he allegedly threatened to destroy FGI.

Years later company executives discovered FGI’s secure website had been broken into nearly a dozen times and confidential information had been obtained. They alleged Murdoch’s company was spreading lies about FGI and using its proprietary information to steal away clients.

At the time, FGI urged authorities to pursue criminal charges, but the case was not prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney General’s office in New Jersey, run at the time by Chris Christie. (Now governor of New Jersey, Christie has struck up a close working relationship with Roger Ailes, chief of Murdoch’s Fox News.)

Can someone please tweet it to Steve Kornacki for me..? Thanks much

Good morning, Chips. I hope you get an actual day off and don’t have to work this Saturday. Yesterday’s posts were terrific–I felt we were all part of the First Lady’s birthday and I’m convinced that all that TOD love wafted into the White House throughout the day. No one can get that much love without feeling it. I’m still elated that the PA voter ID law was struck down by the state’s Commonwealth Court. Honestly didn’t expect that, so it’s like a big gift. Even if a repeal process goes forward, I don’t think we’ll get a resolution by November, so that will make voting easier and more appealing to many people. Step by step, we make progress.

Sen. Ted Cruz’s fearless crusade to defund what he calls Obamacare ended with a whimper not a bang Thursday, as the junior senator from Texas dropped his demand that the Senate vote on amendments to defund the Affordable Care Act before passing the $1.1 trillion spending bill.

“The majority leader and Senate Democrats have chosen not to listen to the American people,” Cruz said. The Senate voted 72-26 first to cut off debate, then to pass the bill.

Apparently Cruz’s Senate GOP colleagues spent the Thursday lunch hour begging him to drop his plan for a defund-Obamacare vote, according to the Washington Post’s Lori Montgomery. He still tried, but he didn’t try that hard.

Concerned that the freshman senator’s quick surrender might be interpreted as backing down – which it was – his office issued a statement later saying “he remains committed to keeping the conversation about Obamacare front and center as the law continues to harm more and more Americans by raising their premiums, canceling their plans and keeping them from their doctors.”

Sure. The Affordable Care Act is on its way to stability, as the number of signups continues to surge in advance of the March 31 deadline, and as people who lost coverage find better plans and/or subsidies. Ted Cruz, meanwhile, is on his way to irrelevance.

The problem for the Mayor really started when the Port Authority funded the redevelopment survey – why on earth would they fund such a thing? I thought their role related to transport??? No wonder they have a budget of billions – and put up the toll rates. Wonder what Samson knew about all this?

        • 61 Cindy
          January 18, 2014 at 9:03 am

My, my, my- I can only imagine what Christie would have done to this country if he was President.

He would have made George Bush and his goons look like the choir boys.

This man has a mob mentality and I believe he is dangerous. This is what happens when people think that voting doesn’t matter. He should have been investigated for holding his special election to keep Cory Booker off the ticket with him. Millions wasted for no reason other than he wanted to win at any cost. This needs to be a wake up call for Americans.

Christie is getting what he deserves; one day he welcomes the President and as soon as the repukes called him out for doing it, he hit the air waves bashing President Obama. I will never forget how he sat there and said; Obama is no leader, he doesn’t know what he is doing, Mitt is the better candidate. He bashed President Obama all week, after embracing him in Jersey.

Well, karma is on his BIG rear end and I hope he is going down. Who’s the leader Governor? Who’s your daddy now?

This is what I just don’t understand. Millions were wasted, high unemployment and they didn’t protest. Jersey got what they voted for and now they are seeing the light.

    • 64 jackiegrumbacher
      January 18, 2014 at 9:20 am

And, of course, Christie will say, “that was my cabinet members. I knew nothing about it. It makes me so sad that they would act in this way. I am so not like that.” Finally, when he’s managed to blame every member of his team, he will claim that he was placed in extreme isolation by his staff–locked in a room from morning til night and kept from everything. And some Republicans will believe the poor, put upon man.

His Lt. Governor told the Dawn Zimmer, Mayor of Hoboken that Chris Christie said if she doesn’t approve the Rockefeller Project, then she would not receive Sandy Relief funds. It’s also connected to David Samson who is connected to bridge gate.

Jovie, the FBI is already on the job in NJ. I don’t think there’s anything they don’t know or highly suspect right now. The trick is to tie it directly to the ‘Capa.’ Christie has created a mafioso type environment and the high ones always protect themselves. Many will be thrown to the wolves to shield him, so the trick is to find the direct link that will nail the big Don.

Isonprize, I long ran out of words to describe this despicable man. He is unqualified for any public office, much less the governorship of a large state. But money will pour in by the barrel fill from the Koch Brothers to preserve his rear and keep him in office, so we can’t be complacent about replacing him. We have to work hard every day and leave no vote uncovered in the state.

Again—-I am the complete opposite of fond of Kristen Welker (trying to find a way to avoid the word “hate”). She gave a Republican talking points report on President Obama’s speech on the NSA on the Today Show——only aired critics’ opinions, no fair and balanced reporting——wrapping up with the conclusion by some nut that his proposals would threaten our national security. Come on! Geez.
    Pathetic and tiresome.

I think she might be afeared for herself as well. This took courage not seen by many in politics. She stayed and gave her story. She didn’t resign for “personal reasons” and get away from it all – she didn’t just accept the development and the recovery money. Taking money for favors was what Christie used to get rid of her predecessor and many others – and then it seems – she was expected to do exactly the same thing – accept recovery money in exchange for allowing a specific development.

NW, and isn’t this exactly like organized crime operates? Intimidate so people are so fearful they remain quiet and do what you say. That a democratically elected mayor has to fear harm to her city from a vengeful governor should make every decent person scream in rage. This is NOT okay, it’s not business as usual. It’s criminal.

I don’t see any Corey Booker calling for Senate hearings or anything? Wasn’t he a Mayor very close to Christie? Just saying!

Don’t I remember reading a report that both agreed to not speak ill of each other during the election? They had a deal—-or lots of deals. I’m guessing Booker and Newark did just fine under Christie.

I think Booker and Christie did get along very well, maybe Booker knew how the game was played in NJ. Why he decided to run for Senate instead of Governor.

I know Willard is about the last thing you want to read about, myself included, but out of some morbid curiosity I clicked on the account about ‘the real mitt’, the doc. produced by a Willard friend, wanted to see how glorified it was, and I remembered seeing the clip of Willard ironing his shirt cuff with his arm inside it. But I found it interesting, relatively speaking. Come to find out—-Willard is exactly as we thought—-always stiff, cold and formal, awkward with the public, completely unable to make small talk etc.——and with some even weirder aspects—–like the sledding incident with a grandchild. Something human is missing in Willard.

At the end of the day Christie is nothing more than a two-bit ham-fisted shakedown artist. What happened to the good old days when governors did their own dirty work? At least with Blagojevich he had enough respect for the game that he did his shakedowns personally and not send out one of his underlings.

Reality – a governor who does his own shakedowns – think I agree with you Don – & Christie should be earning himself more years than Blagojevich – however the law seems to count differently when a democrat is involved.

    Question of the day,

Where are the repukes to defend the Christie cream rear end?

They had no problem when they supported him as “their great white hope” who was going to put the black man, who is in charge, and occupy “their White House”, in his place and take “their America” back. They had a love affair with his rear end-where are the repukes now?

Already Sunday here – should have gone to bed – got caught in the story. I did see your reply to me on another thread. I do hope we get to find out what happens when Christie is no longer Governor. Could be a problem with the Lt Governor also too – which will complicate the situation.

Sunday!! 99ts, why are you guys rushing the time like this? 😉 Re situation in NJ, I must say that US politics has upped the ‘interesting’ factor with all the impending revelations. I’m hoping investigators do an efficient job getting to the root of Christie’s rule. It would be so good to see justice done in NJ (IMO it hasn’t been done [yet?] in some other states run by Repubs -ex: Wisconsin).

What a wonderful day, Michelle and Barack are going to get their groove on with friends and family tonight as Michelle celebrates her 50th. Meanwhile “Big Pussy” will be hunkered down with his lawyers trying to figure out a way to stay out of the big house.

      Hey Don,

      Happy Saturday to you.

If you are referring to the Christie-he is here in our state (Florida) with another crook, Governor “Medicare rogue” Scott.

    • January 18, 2014 at 9:44 am

Ha, what a perfect summing up of the day, Don! And to think Christie thought he was White House-bound …. fingers crossed it’s the Big House he’ll end up inhabiting.

Chips, I really don’t see how Christie survives this thing. I’m not saying he can’t survive, I’m just saying that the boat he’s on is taking on too much water. At some point in time he will be forced to think about resigning.

I think it’s amusing that Christie defenders keep repeating the same refrain, from the first inkling and as the evidence of corruption escalates——“I think Christie will be OK if this goes no higher up”. And then it goes “higher up” and they continue to repeat the same thing—–well, if this goes no further ‘higher up’, then he’ll be fine. And then it goes further ‘higher up’, and they sputter—–well, maybe not fine for presidential prospects, but he’ll probably be able to remain in office—–if this does not go ‘higher up’.
