        Hi prettyfoot58 – Happy Friday!

This is so sad….what is going on, as Marvin Gaye asked the question in the 70’s? When things are crazy, I play this song because it mirrors what is happening today and it’s (song) 40 plus years old. His music is so beautiful and tells a story that causes one to think.

Something is terribly wrong in this country. The children are killing children, the elders are walking around loaded and ready to kill over texting. This is crazy, and it’s truly dangerous to have a confrontation with anyone now-everyone has a gun.

Looks like I popped in while the birthday celebrations are still ongoing! Yeah! I absolutely love all the pictures – she’s really had a remarkable 5 years – each picture brought back some really lovely, awe-inspiring memories.

There’s one more picture that just blew me away – it’s the dress, jacket and boots that First Lady Michelle wore to the welcoming ceremonies for the Chinese state visit in 2011 – really stunning.

Thanks for this celebration of Michelle Obama!

hehehehe – Chris Hayes is leading with Christie – and has a story on water in WV – no mention yet on NSA – trying to get some viewers back?

And the local media is not letting Christie go

      January 17, 2014 at 8:15 pm

      Hey 99ts-Happy Friday!

Me think Christie is going down. I watched part (very few minutes) of the jokester this morning and the panel talked about how he mistreated the Mitt. Christie would not allow him to come to “his” state to raise money. mitt people is saying that the Christ was very arrogant with mitt; showing up late for meetings and he didn’t want to answer 7 questions during the vetting process. I think they are standard question that one must answer for vetting, but he would not do it. Someone on the panel stated that mitt team knew that something was going to come up on Christ.

They (mitt team) were backing away from him because he didn’t like answering questions. How does he plan on being the President?

      • 67 99ts
        January 17, 2014 at 8:20 pm

I’m laughing because Hayes was such a fan of GG & Snowden – so today he hasn’t yet even mentioned them – while GG is visiting everywhere where folks will invite him. Still the show is not yet over.

If you’re up in the am – could be worth watching Steve’s show for some insights

Then again Hayes has just started on the President’s speech – OK so far – but I think I’ll bypass the “civil libertarian” discussion – at least no GG.

        • 68 Cindy
          January 17, 2014 at 8:33 pm

I saw GG on MSNBC earlier, I changed the station so quickly, I don’t remember which show it was. I just saw his little peanut brittle face and grabbed the control. What authority does he have; media is interviewing him for what?

          There is no privacy… (NSA)

I shopped at this store (Kohls) during Christmas, it was my very first time. I used my ATM card as credit. The following day, I received several e-mails from them. I never gave them my e-mail address. Now I keep getting e-mails from them, offering a $25.00 dollar gift card. I figured if I clicked on it, they would bombard me with mail. The point is that I never gave them anything of personal information and they got my e-mail. So he is just useless as for as I am concerned. Snowden broke the law and he is a criminal.

          • 69 99ts
            January 17, 2014 at 9:04 pm

I’m lucky with my email – think my provider must kill lots of spam. meanwhile Rachel leads with Christie – it seems the media is not going gaga about the NSA Good to see.

And no wonder Christie got a lawyer into the office – wonder what he will be redacting. Just as well this isn’t Alaska – took them upwards of a year to track down & completely redact all their Governor’s email

I love, love, love all the pictures of FLOTUS! Thank you for our TOD ‘personal’ compilation, Utal. We definitely have a beautiful, beautiful First Lady!
    .
    .
    .
OTH: I have to say though that I found it interesting today that a lot of ‘outlets’ chose to pay tribute to the ‘fashion’ FLOTUS, exclusive of all her other attributes. I did not run into any source that listed 50 ways MO has reached out, or shown compassion, or helped out in any way….. Shucks, I’m sure with a little effort they could easily have found 50 instances of her hugging a young person/someone in support. Have to confess that each time I came across a slide show of her today, even while I enjoyed each picture my mind kept whispering ‘what about also paying homage to Flotus’ inside?’ [Yes, at times I’m a contrary soul. It’s my mind – it’s always churning. sigh.]

I get what you are saying vc.

    • 80 jacquelineoboomer
      January 17, 2014 at 9:19 pm

That’s not being contrary from my perspective, VC – not when it’s meant to remind everyone of all of Mrs. Obama’s attributes (and the full measure of attributes most women possess!). But the beautiful part of TOD is that everyone here knows and loves all of the attributes she’s shown us, in addition to her beauty, while realizing two other things. First, each of these lovely photos reminds us of a memory of the “time of Obama” in the White House. Second, it’s hard to photograph intelligence, leadership, courage, fortitude, a good moral center, etc. You get the picture!

      • 81 vcprezofan2
        January 17, 2014 at 9:31 pm

In case I wasn’t clear, JO’B, I was not in ANY way criticizing *our* TOD presentation. I happen to think (with great seriousness and modesty) ours is totally appropriate; our personnel are after all journalism ‘amateurs’. Also I totally agree with your assessment re ‘the beautiful part of TOD’. My musings came from the fact it seemed to me throughout the day that none of the ” “major” ” news sources I saw lauding the First Lady spent much time on any other aspect of her than her sense of fashion. Uniformly shallow IMO.

        • January 17, 2014 at 9:37 pm

          January 17, 2014 at 9:46 pm

Totally understood you weren’t criticizing TOD! Totally understood you were criticizing the shallow “news” sources! (I lived through the women’s movement of the ’70s, and got what you meant. We women keep thinking we’ve progressed, but, alas.)

Just happened to notice a few folks had mentioned that the photos evoked a memory! For all of us, to be sure.

    • 85 jackiegrumbacher
      January 17, 2014 at 9:41 pm

Good point, VC. We talk about the things our FLOTUS does and her very broad influence on people and children, as well as the way she looks. Other media, being superficial, are blinded by the “look.” They don’t get that she is as beautiful inside as out.

      • 86 vcprezofan2

‘Other media, being superficial, are blinded by the “look.” They don’t get that she is as beautiful inside as out.’

^^ THIS – Thank you, JG.

And on this note, I’ll stop this convo as it was meant as an observation (as JG aptly summarized it) and not to derail the last moments of FLOTUS’ day in the village.

It seems someone is letting the pundits run with this – interesting that Wildstein provided his texts to Baroni saying who liked his explanations – there must be texts between Wildstein and others – or did he delete them?

Rachel has my favorite man on – I think he should run for Congress when he completes this inquiry

        Hey 99ts, I am truly enjoying Dr. Maddow’s wit…..

She knows what she is talking about and she is connecting the dots. Yes, her guest is so smart, I love to listen to him and how he is presenting this case. Maddow is reminding me of Perry Mason. I loved that show, he would take everything apart, inch by inch and then he would nail the bad guys.

I have to watch Steve K. in the morning, it appears that the s____ is about to hit the fan. That Mayor is going to be there in person, and it’s a woman. This is an I Spy thriller : ) each episode is getting better.

I love a good mystery too. Am always looking for clues to put together to decide who did it. Here we need to find motive as well. Am watching, reading and putting all that others are saying together. It is important in case Christie does run so we can dissuade others in voting for him by retelling this story since so many do not pay attention to factual information.

        January 17, 2014 at 9:55 pm

Have you forgotten, 99ts, we’re supposed to just move right on along and let it go, per John Boehner? The GOPTPers so want Bridgegate to go away, but it won’t because laws were broken, so this matter needs to be thoroughly investigated.

        • 121 99ts
          January 17, 2014 at 10:01 pm

But Benghazi!! and all that – I don’t think Christie should survive this – but it seems from what I am reading/hearing – he has survived similar. The problem with giving anyone immunity will be getting same from the NJ Attorney – can’t imagine Christie will let that happen – and that is probably why he will continue to stonewall.

But I live in hope – and regardless – he has lost any chance 2016 – the GOP are not supporting him at all.

    Vespa update:

My wife had a cake to bake, decorate, and deliver for a little girl who goes to school with my children. She drops me off at work in the morning and keeps the vehicle when that’s the case. When we got home from she and the kids picking me up after my shift, Vespa was on our bed! It sits really high. She jumped off of it right in front of me! She is still moving a little slow, but this is some real improvement. It seems the steroids are working. I hope that she will take her usual spot crowding my legs and making it hard for me to fall asleep tonight at bed time. I will gladly suffer her real estate grab if she does!

It’s always nice to hear the good news – and TOD is the best place to share it 🙂 I must admit, when I started reading I first saw “she drops me off at work & keeps the vehicle” – and thought “I have to do that all the time when I need the vehicle – all sorts of things happen in our world – and some things never change”

Lovely to hear Vespa is doing well – she is probably happy about reclaiming her space.

Even though the topic is appalling, this is an amazing tweet in two ways: first, the “Runt” part, and then the overall premise. #GotchaRunt

I heard that comment when Rev. Al played it. These Republicans say whatever lie which comes to their head concerning President Obama. It’s Rand and his dad who knows all about and who support Jim Crow.

UT, you truly outdid yourself today and now you have ended with a grand finale, like the fireworks on the Fourth of July. After all the spectacular news of the day, your brilliant summary of the president’s NSA speech, you end with these stunning photos. Talk about closing it all out with a flourish. One of the things I most admire about our FLOTUS is her absolutely boundless energy. She seems to pulse with life and never seems deflated and tired, like so many other First Ladies in their husband’s second terms. She’s always stretching, always growing, always trying new things and finding new ways to take joy in life. That is a very rare gift in life and it’s one reason why she always seems so luminous, as well as beautiful.

Wonderful description of those pictures jackie – and miles in front of the fireworks. I really like that FLOTUS decided to stay well away from the governing side of the white house – but also saw the opportunities it gives her to make a difference. She chose her own ideas and helps as many folks as she can while supporting the President in all that he does.

Interesting that few other first ladies have had such an impact on all Americans – and us other folks – I cannot remember ever seeing or thinking about the Bush wives. Hillary is a memory of failed health care & having to keep her husband in line, Nancy Reagan loved being married to a man in the public eye, and those before are a blur – except for the grief we all felt for Jackie Kennedy – yet she was mainly in the news for decorating the white house – such was the role of wife in her world.
