Steve Benen: How not to respond to scandal

As New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) bridge scandal continues to unfold, his allies and defenders have a serious challenge. Under the most generous of scenarios, the governor was clueless about his own team’s corruption, kept in the dark while his top aides abused their power in his name, deliberately crippling a community over petty politics.

Many Republicans and Christie admirers aren’t sure how best to respond, but they’ve taken a long look at the available evidence, and have decided to ask the question that matters most to them: “Isn’t President Obama awful?”

…. It’s hard to know where to start with such a ridiculous response to a controversy….

…. Republicans and other Christie admirers, instead of dealing with the bridge story on the merits, are comparing the responses to a legitimate controversy and discredited faux-controversies. In their eagerness to defend the governor, they’re criticizing the president for reasons that simply don’t make sense.

Ahoy mates. I will probably need a bit of shoring up today, for sure. I awoke to the middle of the MHP show. As my eyes begin to focus, the first thing I see is the Uncle Tom Ron Christie..sheesh! My day is in ruins. And I haven’t had me coffee yet…….Christie’s are everywhere. 😦

“The strategy also served to distract attention from the real cause of the working class’s shrinking paychecks — corporations that were busily busting unions, outsourcing abroad and replacing jobs with automated equipment and, subsequently, computers and robotics…

But the divide-and-conquer strategy is no longer convincing because the dividing line between poor and middle class has all but disappeared. “They” are fast becoming “us.””

Former New Jersey governor Thomas H. Kean, one of the state’s most revered figures and a mentor to current Republican Gov. Chris Christie, contends that the leadership qualities Christie has shown while in office should give pause to voters nationally, as they begin to size up Christie as a potential president.

“On the one hand, I think he’s got a lot to offer. I think he’s the most able politician since Bill Clinton,” Kean (R) said in an interview with The Washington Post. “On the other hand, you look at these other qualities and ask, do you really want that in your president?”

I heard Kean on the teevee yesterday, and he slipped in a “this isn’t the guy I knew,” and seemed to be giving Christie the benefit of the doubt … gag. I see that’s changed. Apparently, Christie “showed up at Kean’s door at age 16” to get involved helping his campaign. So, it’s all a matter of who you know and don’t know. Gag again!

      Good Saturday TODable TODbots.

Christie got his political start at 16 by volunteering during Gov Kean’s race in the 1970s. Not too long ago, Christie went after Kean’s son who was a NJ state senator for he mildly criticized Christie and Christie wanted a Pound of Kean’s Flesh by making things harder for him and wanting to dethrone him from office.

Note Christie won with 22% of the Votes over Buono, however, his coattail was Just One win. Minimum wage passed. Marriage equality after his veto and several court challenges is now the Law of the land in NJ.

I will repeat again. There is no difference between Nixon and Christie. He got that way for as Buono said during her concession speech, so many NJ Dems made Christie’s abusive behavior possible. Now the whole state is aware of this corruption. It is now a matter of time as Buono said before Christie would Call Uncle.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin is a piece of dog shit; this fucker couldn’t even provide safe drinking water for the citizens of his state. But yet this fucker wants to runs around bad-mouthing Obamacare and sucking the balls of any industry that comes to his state looking for tax breaks and trying to avoid paying minimum wage. This guy never met an owner of a coal mine whose dick he wouldn’t suck. This guy has let private industry come to his state and gangbang the people of West Virginia. I despise this motherfucker, he stands for nothing, he sits up on tv with an intense cockeyed gaze and act as though the gobbledygook that comes out of his pie-hole makes sense. His ambition in life is to be Wayne LaPierre’s fluffer, god help the good people of West Virginia.

sometimes I agree with you…I try not to let my cynicism get in the way of My Hope…..

On Friday while waiting for the bus…I struck up a conversation with one of my bus mates…she is a woman around my age…we were speaking about Christie….I told her that this is what happens when folks do not vote and are not taking an active role in their gov/she was not convinced she stated that it does not matter what we do/that politicians are going to do what ever they choose/I countered by saying what PBO has said that WE are the Change we Seek/I also told her another thing that PBO has said…that a cynical electorate is a threat to our democracy/well the outcome of this conversation is that she got offended that I called her …ummm…cynical…..Hellooooo…but I will say…I have had this discussion with lot of folks….my response to them is that you can not use that as an excuse to be uninvolved/and I remind them that we elected PBO not once but twice!

      Keeping HOPE alive!

So your ass want to push that “rugged individualism” bullshit, you believe in “states-rights” and “market driven solutions,” you think there is too much “regulation?” then have at it motherfucker. But when the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has to step in and provide clean drinking water so your citizens don’t catch Botulism or Cholera or any other nasty sounding disease all because you want to show the country how much you don’t need the EPA or any other government agency tasked with keeping your funky ass state from turning into a modern day “MadMax” or “Book of Eli” dystopian wasteland. Well then motherfucker go right on ahead and keep praying to the gods of “deregulation.”
