Joe Manchin and all the WV pols should be forced to drink a 16 oz bottle of that dirty chemical water on national TV! And then the nasty ill effects, nausea, vomiting, retching, skin rash, diarrhea, etc should be televised for all to witness…

I’m late to TOD today but checking Manchin’s twitter feed it is a long list of where to go to take a bath, wash the dishes and buy some water. The true cost of uncontrolled industry – home grown chemical warfare.

At a store in Charleston, the state capital, a police officer stood guard as shoppers stocked up on bottled water on Thursday evening, according to the Charleston Gazette newspaper.

“People have been grabbing it like crazy,” Kerstin Halstead told the Gazette. “Some people were getting – well, they could have shared more.”

During the lead in to our most recent floods there were fights in stores over milk, bread and water. I stayed away – I was – and still am – convinced we have a government that can provide the basics if/when we really need them.

i see some on twitter calling the relief water in w. virginia “obamawater.” that’s good framing since all the teabaggers there are now having to take the socialist obamawater. perfect. their precious “free market” is failing them once again.

Has any other President in history had every last minor or major thing that happened during his presidency named after him? I’ve never followed a President like this before, but I have little memory of Bush (other than Bush wars from the left) or Clinton having this happen all the time.

After writing that I see the Bush wars have well been turned into Obama’s wars by the right.

I like the ring of Obamawater – but I find it sad that some folks have to be reminded over and over as to the good that their government does – every day – every year – regardless of who is the President.

Today is the birthday of the 1st Secretary of the US Treasury Alexander Hamilton, he graces the US$10 note and is among many things the founder of the US Coast Guard, his story is quite fascinating, he was born on the tiny Caribbean island of Nevis (my home town) just google his name and learn lots of unknown to most, the considerable accomplishments of a quite extraordinary man, Happy Birthday Hamilton

    Joe Manchin: ALEC MEMBER

He’s no DEMOCRAT, I don’t care WHAT’S behind his name!!

    • January 11, 2014 at 9:31 pm

I agree. He’s not a blue dog. I expect blue dogs to be — well blue dogs. Manchin is the pocket of coal/chem. And yes he’s ALEC all the way. Maybe that’s the only way he can be a Senator in WV. I don’t know. He should have changed parties along time ago. Now he knows the opinion of Repubs is in the toilet. He is really disgusting.

        January 11, 2014 at 10:01 pm

No..I don’t think that’s the only way you can be a senator from WV…Jay Rockefeller has been a Dem Sen. from that state for ages, and he doesn’t act this way.
I just called my very best friend, the one I’ve had since Jr High, in Charleston, WV to see how she’s doing. She didn’t answer her phone…which NEVER happens because she’s retired now…she’s always home. Well, I just got the feeling that she’s not home right now. I have a feeling she’s gone out of state.I hope she did. My thoughts go out to all the people in WV. Good people. Hard working people. People full of pride….and I hope to hell that they’re all beginning to connect the dots now. Seeing who’s on their side and who wants to just make a profit off their hard work and pride. I hope they question things they thought were true but realize, in the sunlight, that things really aren’t as they appeared to be. You used to be a blue state…what happened? Now you get this instead. Sorry, but you all need to get a clue, and fast!

These people have been used and abused for so long now. By coal companies ( you remember Massey?) and chemical companies, like Union Carbide and Dow Chemical…spilling their toxins and dare I think, not paying their fair share… People with black lung disease and obesity and a high rate of smokers….of poor education and so much more that went wrong for them…..of corporations sucking the life out of the people and the state….when fossil fuels were all we knew, they thought they were in hog heaven…when they were all dying a slow death.

They need to find some other industries to welcome to WV…something clean ( and sorry, PBO…no such thing as “clean coal” ) They need to rethink their addiction to the toxic industries that are killing them. This is a disgrace and damn shame. My thoughts go out to them now…but I have to say that I certainly hope they don’t do the same thing over and over expecting different results. They need to be the change they seek.

        Sen Byrd (earlier civil rights votes not to be ignored) and Sen Rockfeller had (have) a solid liberal voting record;

    • January 11, 2014 at 11:31 pm

If you have a supplemental plan then that is an insurance company and they are controlling the costs just like any other insurance plan does. The ACA regulates the insurance industry, including health exchanges for Medicare, in that it gives a cap on how much profit they can make. For seniors it also begins closing the prescription donut hole. The links I gave you should explain all the good things it does for us.

If he’s not going to check the facts than that would be difficult to talk to him. The nice thing about Twitter is that I immediately block RWNJ’s and never have to hear from them again. I have RW family and I love them from a distance and just don’t go around them. I don’t bother to try to talk to them anymore. But you don’t have those choices. I made a choice for my health and peace of mind to turn away from negativity and turn to the positive to feel better. I look for ways to support POTUS and I visit here. Sorry I couldn’t offer some information to help. The thing is that ObamaCare and President Obama are helping seniors and Republicans whether they know it or not. I think people will come to understand that more and more.

Love is the most powerful force in existence. May your love comfort you and help you be at peace.

If any of you saw the excellent, moving HBO doc “Life According to Sam”, I was sad to see that Sam, the subject of the doc who suffered from progeria, the premature aging disease, passed away yesterday. He was 17. He had such a beautiful spirit and an abundance of positive energy despite all the difficulties he was dealing with, an inspiration to all around him. RIP Sam.

I am happy to see #Obamacare picking up in deep red states in CBO estimates

    Idaho – 50% !!!!

    Wyoming – 19%

    Nebraska – 18%

    Kentucky – 15%

    South Dakota – 13%

NY is doing great at 80% while CA is piss poor at 33%. Why?

Connecticut is the tops beating the projection by 21%.

I honestly don’t think Hillary has the confidence to make decisions in this area so she leans heavily on the ‘wisdom’ of the men. A case of sticking with the old and familiar by deferring to them because they have more experience with war.

A few weeks back, I had predicted total #ObamaCare enrollments might reach 10 million by the time 2014 elections roll around. Now I am revising that estimate to 20 million by the Nov 2014.

Even if half of the enrollers turn and vote dem (not out of gratitude but out of sheer common sense of preserving their hard fought healthcare rights), the rethugs are screwed for a generation at least. Sam Wang had made a model that predicted something additional 4 millions votes would turn the house permanently, fuck the gerrymandering

The French comic Dieudonne M’bala M’bala, who has convictions for anti-Semitic hate speech, has dropped a controversial show after it was banned.

He told reporters in Paris he would no longer perform The Wall, after France’s highest court upheld a ban on the opening night of his tour on Thursday.

Citing “blatant political interference”, he said he wanted to perform a new show devoted to Africa.

This new show has already been banned by the authorities in Paris.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls is seeking to keep Dieudonne kept off all stages in France, condemning the comic’s “mechanics of hate”.

This is just the most revolting story/event. I detest with a passion these bored, empty-headed, heartless millionaires who can find nothing better to do with their time and boatloads of money than to go kill something. Something important is missing in these people, a genetic mutation, or something. It’s utterly sickening.
