    And my company just sent an email to all Chicago area employees that we can work from home tomorrow. But of course being a former Minnesotan I can’t look like I can’t handle a cold day so I’m going in.

    This is beautiful, insightful, thought-provoking, sweet………just a wonderful read. It is a letter to this young man’s 4-year old nephew (AA). TOD’ers, do not miss this and feel free to share it. It’s one of those!

    Couple nights ago I saw this awful twitpic that I mentioned to no one but my hubby. It was tweeted to the right people. . .@secretservice. Anyway today I noticed an article about it. Has it been discussed here or are we ignoring it?

    • January 5, 2014 at 7:30 pm

      I can’t speak for others, but a couple of days ago I saw some incredibly vicious/racist tweeted forwarded by @jeffersonobama.

      I know I’ll sound like an ostrich, but I really don’t like seeing or hearing stuff like that, and there’s so much GOOD about our President, his family and his Administration — we’re all excited at TOD for the SOTU, I think we’re all feeling that it will be one of those “you ain’t seen nothing yet” performances.

      Regardless, if we’re 100% wrong, we here at TOD trust PBO because he really does have strategic vision, something this country hasn’t seen since Carter, but sadly Carter wasn’t able to carry his message to the American people.

      The late 1970s were a very trying time for Americans. Double-digit inflation, mortgage rates at 21% (30 month T-Notes were paying over 16%), second gas crisis in less than a decade, the Iranian hostage situation that lasted more than a year, the Jonestown horror, and though this was before Carter was elected, the Chowchilla CA kidnapping of the school bus full of children (this has faded from the country’s memory, but it was a huge story bad then). Also, the humiliating end of the mistaken Vietnam war, cities torn apart by school busing, etc.

      Long way to say that we’re all here to support and savor PBO’s strategic vision.

      • January 5, 2014 at 7:38 pm

        Good because I don’t want to talk about it either. It was sent to the right people. I’m not on the web much because almost two minutes for a page to load. Boring. Watching #7. 😉 ut’s bad boy or good boy, with the nice football. He’s good at the run game.

          think I saw what you are referring to a number of days ago – can’t express what I thought, felt and said;

          but as usual we MUST send this crap to the honorable men and women of the US Secret Service and they will take it from there

    • January 5, 2014 at 7:37 pm

      Amy Holmes is a Republican strategist. I think she’s Pat Robertson’s golden girl.

      She’s well spoken but misguided by the dollar signs thrown at her by the GOP who have nothing better to do with their money.

      she is a republican who sometimes poses as an independent (when circumstance are favorable);

      ignore her, she will make you break your tv and commit other “sins”

      Amy was Bill Frist’s press secty or spokesperson. A frequent guest of Bill Maher and like you she sets my teeth on edge. Smiling while lying. Vile woman.

      CNN specializes in President bashing. Beware.

      Amy Holes is a presenter/anchor for Glenn Beck’s Blaze TV. The vile she spews is incredibly maddening for she is NEVER challenged. The hate she speaks are always over blown and over the top.

    The situation in Iraq looks very bleak. Reminds me of the horrors that precipitated McCain’s surge strategy in 2007.

    Not sure what to make of this, perhaps others with more knowledge about the tragedy known as Iraq (which had no Al-Qaeda presence before Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld gave them a reason to flock there) might weigh in.

      January 5, 2014 at 7:58 pm

      I can’t give a definitive answer, but all I heard today was that Secretary Kerry said this is an Iraq battle and we will put zero U.S. boots on the ground – but we will help in other ways (non-specified) – and that the fact that Iran will help in the Iraq fight with Al-Qaeda is considered a good thing.

    Following recent bombings in Beirut and other instances of violence that have occurred in Lebanon in recent months, the U.S. government strongly urges U.S. citizens in Lebanon to exercise extreme caution and to avoid hotels, western-style shopping centers, including western-style grocery chain stores, and any public or social events where U.S. citizens normally congregate, as these sites are likely targets for terrorist attacks for at least the near term.

    The U.S. Embassy further urges all U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon due to safety and security concerns. The current travel warning can be seen at this link: Travel Warning for Lebanon. U.S. citizens living and working in Lebanon should understand that they accept risks in remaining and should carefully consider those risks. The ability of U.S. government personnel to reach travelers to provide emergency services may be limited.

    For those who missed it, and in honor of tomorrow’s Epiphany (I’m not Catholic, and I mean no disrepect, it always seemed like a special day to me) here’s the dKos article about President Obama’s terrible (snark) year.

    Rave reviews from Susanne, BobFR and others last week.

    Here’s a tweet which summarizes Craig Hardegree’s education for the MSM. I never visit dKos because of their high population of emoprogs, but this truly is worth keeping handy.

    JackieGrumbacher and CarolMae — would be excellent for your newsletters.

    Last post on the weather.

    One of my tweets on an earlier thread wasn’t posted correctly, so am repeating myself here because: the polar vortex freezing the middle of our country to a dangerous degree (am praying for everyone’s warm and safety) is directly attributable to warmer ocean temperatures.

    First, about tonight’s game (not a fan, has it started… or ended yet?):

    Most interesting to me is that oceanic warming looks to directly contribute to this plunge in temperatures.
    “The pocket of cold air, called a “polar vortex,” was blocked up north by a high-pressure area that meteorologists refer to as a ‘ridge,’ according to Mark Ressler, senior meteorologist at The Weather Channel.

    The ridge has high pressure on both the surface level and aloft, meaning miles above the Earth’s surface. The ridge was formed by pools of warm water that have collected near the Gulf of Alaska, according to Joe D’Aleo, co-chief meteorologist at WeatherBELL Analytics. These pools of warm water, which are up to seven degrees warmer than normal, heat the surrounding air and expand it, raising the temperature and pressure, and block air from the Pacific Ocean as it tries to move eastward into Canada.”

    This map is hard to make out, but Alaska is in the upper middle of this graphic:

    The red in this map shows anomoly temperatures. Obviously the middle of the country is way below normal, but note the red (higher) temps in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

    On Iraq,

    yes, PBO was elected on the promise of ending the Iraq war and he did;

    remember how the Iraq leader (PM or President) refused to allow PBO to let a rapid-reaction force remain behind to help out in case of the mess we are now listening to in Falujah and other places? I may have details wrong but the Iraq leadership were taking some pleasure in telling PBO that they could not agree to a status of forces and that they would be able to handle their business without US help;

    fast forward:

    the leader of Afghanistan has been using the same language about the status of forces; wonder if same thing will happen in Kabul;

    too much has been lost in blood and treasure in both these countries – and yet we see the people who pushed those policies being constantly elevated to question PBO’s strategy

      Isn’t it time for Iraq, Afghanistan to take care of their own country. And America do the same.
