Chat Away

On This Day: President Obama takes a break from his golf game at the Mid Pacific Country Club in Kailua, Hawaii, to give a child a golf ball, Dec. 28, 2010 (Photo by Pete Souza)

Morning/afternoon/evening everyone!

Okay, just got home – five hours late – from my Christmas travels and next door’s tree has crashed through the garden wall 😕 Danny’s sitting here with a WTF look on his face, half his garden is covered in branches. Back in a bit with some more 2013 Memorable Moments, gotta gently ask next door when they plan on, you know, fixing this.

Chat away until then!

Breaking Bad marathon goes on commercial break, pops in. Hope the tree situation is resolved amicably, Chiparoo.

Breaking Bad marathon is back on, pops out and resumes happy binge watching position.

I know it’s supposed to be a good show, but I HATE METH AND EVERYTHING IT DOES! Well, I feel a little better. Watch and enjoy.

I can’t watch it. I’ve tried, and I have no trouble with dark subject matter. Just cant get into it.

        • December 28, 2013 at 2:56 pm

I turned it on for five seconds and couldn’t watch more. I did record one for later just to see, but since I didn’t watch the first show I don’t think I’ll give it much of a chance. I don’t have a problem with most dark material either. I watched Dexter faithfully, but Meth, no thanks. We made ourselves watch “In the Unites States of Dog”. I might have the title wrong, but that was a nightmare because it was a documentary.
61, do you blog about making quilts? I followed somebody on TOD who did, but can’t remember who it was now and can’t find a bookmark. Enjoy your day.

If I didn’t have such a convoluted life, I really would love to blog seriously, and quilts would be a big part of that, since I teach quilting (in addition to everything else). It was a ‘Linda’, but I don’t remember which ‘Linda’. I’ll see if I can dig up the bookmark somewhere.

I, too, watched Dexter faithfully (although it was the worst series finale in history and did not do the show justice). I just can’t get into Breaking Bad. After reading the positive comments here at TOD I tried it again over the weekend and didn’t make it for five minutes. At this point, life’s too short. But I would love to know what it is I’m allegedly missing.

            • December 30, 2013 at 12:10 pm

Wow, another Dexter fan and you’re right about the ending, but I didn’t know what to expect. Just watched a movie called “Gone” last night and Jennifer Carpenter had a small role. That was strange. The movie is a thriller, center on one young woman. Not horrifying, but suspenseful. Also watched Identity Theft so I can go either way, hilarious to thrilling. But not sadistic. I did record and watch one episode O’B Breaking Bad. Just didn’t get the great acting or writing, etc. Ending science was a young woman choking on her vomit. “Scandals” not for me either.

              Have a good day.

You and I are eerily alike.

The first time I saw Jennifer Carpenter was in The Exorcisim of Emily Rose. She was amazing, and only more so on Dexter.

Very well said, Carol: ‘…hilarious to thrilling. But not sadistic.’

I turned on BB over the weekend to see some graphic, gross, throwing up in the toilet piece of Great Art. Sorry. I don’t get it. I don’t think the writing is anything special, nor the acting. Just don’t get it.

I’m with you on Scandals. And I wonder if it wasn’t the wonderful Kerry Washington whom we all admire so much, if many of the TOD family would sing its praises.

It’s so windy here my Sammy was clinging to me because the screen door was banging open and shut. He was too afraid to go outside this morning. Now that he’s been out, he seems to have settled down because I locked the door. That means they can’t go in and out at will. Yes, my dogs are smart enough to open the door from both sides and come in and out at will. Yes, it means I don’t have a very clean floor, but happy dogs. 😉 I am out of a job though. My job; Let the dogs out, let the dogs in. 😉

    Need help from Dog lovers.

I have lived in my neighborhood for over 10 yrs. Dogs and Cats are present. The law says no pets outside without a leash. My problem over the years have been scooping up for poops on my lawn. I have talked until blue in the face and the problem continues. So is there any thing that I get purchase to fend off this? This past Summer, I bought bottles of recommended products, but they were not helpful.

The duck poop two Summers ago have been solved. The neighbor to my left had 4 ducks. They finally took the ducks to their cottage. Any wonderful suggestions will be highly welcomed.

I think a small discrete sign that says please pick up your dog poop is very appropriate. I always carry bags with me and always pick up, but I know there are people who don’t. You could always put a small fence around it.

    • December 28, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Fences make good neighbors? 😉 Maybe a present of a poopie bag for each offending neighbor for New Years?

Today, 1.3 million more Americans and their families face an economic crisis because Congress failed to extend unemployment benefits for the long-term unemployed. To add to the misery, funding for food stamps was cut severely last month, and Congress is poised to make further drastic cuts in the coming weeks. An economic system that deliberately harms struggling families is unjust. As 2013 draws to a close, we resolve to convince Congress that economic justice and compassion reflect true American values…

I will tweet and retweet all worthy Dem Candidates and sign their petitions, but don’t they know sending an email every day is just annoying? Who can give everyday to about 50 emails and the DNC or whatever, plus I thought if I gave a small monthly donation to OFA they wouldn’t email so much. I’m happy to tweet their message of the day, but I spend about an hour deleting emails. I’m about to unsubscribe to most of them. I want to stay up on the news though. I don’t even show up on the OFA wall of giving even though I gave every month. Yes, I’ve sent them a letter. I’m sorry to be complaining on here. I want them to get their message out more efficiently though. How do the rest of you deal with it? I know it’s not tax deductible and I know the Koch’s are outspending us. There must be a better way.

CarolMae, I know I hate the end of the month with everybody asking for donations. I, also, donate monthly to OFA and I just delete their email requests for more money. I did give an additional donation today, because there was a chance to win a contest to go to Washington, DC next month for their “birthday”.

Pf, this quote from Pope Francis needs to be hung on the walls of Congress and in every state and local municipal office in the country. I would like to see a big banner put up on Wall Street. For over 40 years people have been told that by the Christian right that Republicans are the party of family values and that meme has been pushed in churches across the country, which always seem free to push Republican politics. I would love to hang Pope Francis’ statement around the neck of every faux values Republican in the country and show them exactly which party truly reflects the golden rule.

      • December 28, 2013 at 1:58 pm

you get the banner…I will hold the ladder….I left a message about the PA Progressive Summit…I was looking for opinions about it…

Pf, I went last year (did you?) and thought the opening session and the general lunch session was good, but I wasn’t that impressed with the breakout sessions. This year we’re promised that all of the governor candidates will be at the general sessions so if you want to see and assess them, that’s a good place to be. Haven’t decided yet, whether I’m going this year. We have until the end of December to get the early bird fee.

Df, anyone who thinks that the US government is interesting in “everything we do” is a narcissist, paranoid or a criminal, which in Snowden’s case is “all of the above.” The number of govt. agents it would take to monitor individual data this massive would permanently eliminate unemployment. And every one of them would be bored senseless. Most of us live very dull, repetitive lives and aside from ourselves and maybe a few very close loved ones, nobody gives a damn. Snowden is increasingly living in an imaginary land filled with bogie man of his own creation.

One of my many issues about the media is their constant annoying memes that POTUS is on vacation.

Going to Chicago IL or HI to me is not by any means a Vacation for this POTUS. When he went to MA or NC….yes. But HI and IL are his places of Birth and Residency respectively.

The media called GW Bush’s GH Bush’s and Reagan’s residencies working Vacations. Those men did that a lot.

Chips, are there any hunky tree cutters for hire or do-gooders in your area? Our area has an annual tree burn for charity. People with real trees donate to the charity and they pick up the tree and have a bonfire sometime after New Years. For such a Republican county that I live in we really do a lot of liberal things. The idjits just don’t know it. Except for the Governor not expanding Medicaid and setting up a State Exchange. Isn’t it stupid for a Republican State to have the Federal Government set up our exchange for the state of Wyoming? Why don’t the Republicans want to run our State Health care?

Chips, I think you’ve got the tree thing exactly right–asking your neighbors in a “nice way.” They are probably going to have to contact their own insurance company and the cost of the damage will have to be assessed, including the repair of your fence. If you’ve got good neighbors, they’re probably more upset than you are. If they’re belligerent, talk to your own insurance agent and ask them to negotiate with them.
