2013: Theo’s Most Memorable Moments

by Theo

****

1 The Inauguration

I think everyone has this on their list, and I have to leave it at the top of mine. It was the best moment of 2013 – the absolute best. And I got to share it with family and several TOD members in person in DC. So satisfying. My favourite moment was when President Obama took that last look out into the crowd to take it all in. I loved that he took time to enjoy the day.

2 President & First Lady Obama’s trip to Africa

Seeing the joyous crowds greeting them in Tanzania was breathtaking. Especially the dress worn by FL Michelle at the official dinner in Senegal.

****

3 President Obama’s speech on poverty/inequality

It’s what he has fought to fix his whole career. He keeps his eye on the ball – never wavering.

****

4 President Obama’s meeting with the new Chinese President Xi Jinping in California

Such a momentous occasion and a really personal touch to the meeting.

2013: JER’s Most Memorable Moments

Remarks by the President and the Vice President on Gun Violence – January 16, 2013

“For the men and women in big cities and small towns who fall victim to senseless violence each and every day. For all the Americans who are counting on us to keep them safe from harm. Let’s do the right thing. Let’s do the right thing for them, and for this country that we love so much.”

****

President on Comprehensive Immigration Reform – January 29, 2013

” It’s really important for us to remember our history. Unless you’re one of the first Americans, a Native American, you came from someplace else. Somebody brought you.”

****

President at Dedication of Statue Honoring Rosa Parks – February 27, 2013

“Rosa Parks tell us there’s always something we can do. She tells us that we all have responsibilities, to ourselves and to one another. She reminds us that this is how change happens – not mainly through the exploits of the famous and the powerful, but through the countless acts of often anonymous courage and kindness and fellow feeling and responsibility that continually, stubbornly, expand our conception of justice – our conception of what is possible.”

****

Signing of the Violence Against Women Act – March 07, 2013

“And we’ve made incredible progress since 1994. But we cannot let up – not when domestic violence still kills three women a day. Not when one in five women will be a victim of rape in their lifetime. Not when one in three women is abused by a partner. So I promise you – not just as your President, but as a son, and a husband, and a father – I’m going to keep at this.”
