Ms. Chips, sorry I missed your shout out.
I stepped out to get chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows. Making S’mores with the kids tonight. I sneaked me some ice cream when they were not looking. Merry Christmas to you and Danny Boy! I have been so busy these days and by the time I play catch up,it’s another day. LOL! So glad to see our First Family on vacation. It just warms my heart.
Thank you, Ms. Chips for all you do and God bless your “efficient elves” that have helped you this year so that you can have your mini vacations that YOU so well deserve.

This time of the years makes me more grateful than ever.
2013 has been a great year! If anyone is thinking otherwise, their asses are doom and gloom because they know time is winding down and they are running out of schemes and plots, so they go back to Plan A. Which is so obvious, so transparent. It is pathetic and predictable.

The best is yet to come! If they think POB is going to lighten up on their dumb asses before he leaves office, they have a rude awakening ahead of them. They have disrespected him and the Office of The Presidency from the first day he was sworn in. When it is over, they will remember his name.. I am so glad that so many people have affordable health care. This is the best gift anyone can give and receive. I am truly looking forward for 2014 to kick some asses out of Congress and be rid of that Tea Party circus clowns.
        Merry Christmas to all!

It’s that time of year when websites are retrospective overdrive.

But take a look at this photo. Anyone who harbors an ill thought against Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly have no soul, are empty vessels (yes, I’ve seen vile comments and tweets about them).

Here’s the caption of the photo in @nycjim’s tweet:

Mark Kelly leans his head on the shoulder of his wife and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords as they attend a news conference asking Congress and the Senate to provide stricter gun control in the United States on March 6 in Tucson, Arizona. Giffords and Kelly were joined by survivors of the Tucson shooting as they spoke outside the Safeway grocery store where the shooting happened two years ago that killed six people.

And, of course, January 21, 2013 made the list:

    Final photo from Mashable’s list:

I can’t believe I’ve been a librarian for 5 years and haven’t done this for my family: I just ordered books for everyone on my list from Amazon. Even my 2 year old nephew is getting a book: a collection of Dr. Seuss. Gotta start warping their minds early.

I always give books also—-got many wrapped under the tree right now—-for kids from 2 mo. to 12 yrs. old. Recommending a book for anyone looking for a last minute gift for a little one—-“My Penguin Osbert”. My daughter said today that every year her kids, now 10 and 12, get out all their xmas books for re-reading and maybe their most fave is the penguin book—–which I gave to one of them when he was 3. They still laugh with it and love it—–about a little kid who asks Santa for a real live penguin and gets more than he bargained for, having to be out in the snow with him all day every day, take ice cube baths with him, eat yucky stuff with him etc. Love books that last, that kids love for years.

Also recommend for new babies, which we are blessed with around here—-“On the Night You Were Born” by Nancy Tillman, dare anyone to read it without choking up. I got it for my new grandbabe when she was born (and for all her cousins before her) Got her Tillman’s newest for xmas, “I’d Know You Anywhere, My Love.” All her books are keepsakes and lovelies.

Also got my 3 daughters The Goldfinch—–hope it’s as excellent as its rave reviews because I haven’t read it yet. Said to be a book that comes along only a few times a decade, a stay up all night, tell all your friends book.

I took a peak at the design awards for libraries that Dudette posted on the previous thread.

For me, the best library is Juneau’s. It’s 4 stories, mostly glass. When I visited AK in 1999, you could look directly into the cruise ships docked next to the library from the 3rd floor. Amazing how many people don’t leave cruises when they’re at a port of call.

Also like my local library which was built as part of one of our munipals parks and has lots of tall windows at angles which provides lots of areas with relative privacy. It also has a huge saltwater aquarium in the children’s area which is a big hit with the kids. The children’s wing is new, built less than 10 years ago. This is what taxpayer dollars are for.

Here’s what the GOP RWNJs get away with by not letting their “base” know what good public dollars can provide.

Do you think those enablers even know they were screwed or they are just to hateful to care?
It is pathetic when you know better and you don’t care. It will keep on happening.
        How ignorant is that?

    • December 21, 2013 at 7:41 pm

Same here. I would prefer to buy at a local bookstore, but Amazon is just so easy to search and find, see reviews, etc., etc. HYPOCRITE!! *SIGH*. I bought a “History of the Super Bowl” book for my kid, thinking it would have lots of info and stats AND action photos. But when it arrived – ZERO PICTURES. Only summaries and statistics. (I PROBABLY could have taken a little more time and figured that out when I was ordering.) So I go in to my Amazon account to return the book and I get the message: Since your such a good customer, just keep the item and we’ll give you a credit anyway. Of course they are saving on handling, and probably sold it to me for $15 and their cost was $4.50! Anyway, going to give it to him and see what he does with it!!

‘If I Ran the Zoo’ is proof that Dr. Seuss is Satan. Try reading it aloud for story time, you’ll see.

I have a house full of kids tonight since each of my two has a sleep over guest. I am about to grab my hardbound Suess collection and read to them. I like to read The Sneetches to visiting children if I am not confident that they are getting the story’s message at home.

My heavens – I actually read the article GrooveSDC pointed to – more white supremacy and hate on black – I cannot believe someone has said it – I cannot believe that some people have to live with this level of racism – but I can believe that the media pundits support it.

I so like that twitter has given people a voice to fight this racism and hate that used to be hidden from the majority.

Believe it, 99ts. It is real.
They used to do it on the golf course and behind closed doors of Board Room meetings. What still hurts me is those who did not speak up and still don’t. And they say they are not racists and make excuses for relatives when they have one beer too many. It starts with a joke.
” I AMJUST KIDDING” is not an option.
My grandmother used to always tell us,”What is in you, will eventually come out”. I believe that.
It will come out through a joke, alcohol, hurt, pain, even death. It will happen.

          December 21, 2013 at 8:46 pm

When I was younger – probably until the 1970s – the jokes were there and I used to laugh – in my world mainly about the native Australians – but I had a colleague who studied in Arkansas and he came back with all the jokes (c. 1974).

I’m not sure what kicked in my conscience that this was so wrong – but I so appreciate your comment, it made me reflect on how I used to be & used to join in by laughing at the jokes.

I think it was Mandela & a RW state leader who supported apartheid in the early 1970s (declaring a state of emergency when white South Africans came her to play rugby) that made me realize that it was not “kidding” or funny.

I’m alright. I am just gonna have a scar after a week or so of one really sore finger. I was trying to open a package of ear buds for my son with a pocket knife. It slipped off of the package and went into my finger with a lot of umph behind it. I spend most of my free time in the kitchen with chef knives, cleavers, and such. I know better than to push a blade toward myself instead of away! Well, at least the kids got a lesson in thinking about what you’re doing and making smarter choices than the one I made.

Jim Messina, who served as President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign manager, said Thursday that he is not considering an appointment in the Senate to replace departing Sen. Max Baucus, the Montana Democrat.

The comments came on the heels of a report in The Hill earlier on Thursday that said Messina had received calls in the last day from “high level” officials in Montana asking if he would serve as a placeholder for the senator, according to a source familiar with the conversations. Obama is asking Baucus to serve as U.S. ambassador to China.

While he received the queries, Messina, who served as chief of staff to Baucus, took to Twitter to deny that he’s mulling a Senate appointment.
