Christmas in Washington

President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, pose for photographs alongside children dressed as elves, who are or were patients at Children’s National Medical Center after they presented donated gifts to the Obamas to give to children at the hospital, as they attend a taping of TNT’s Christmas in Washington at the National Building Museum in Washington on December 15

    A sample:

“On Fox News’ The Kelly File Friday night, host Megyn Kelly tried to explain away her emphatic insistence that Santa Claus is emphatically, undeniable, and unchangeably white by explaining that she was just agreeing with Slate’s Aisha Harris that our culture depicts Santa Claus as white. Kelly also claimed she was the victim of accusations of “racism,” but then proceeded to play several clips of no one accusing her of that. Kelly’s commentary was an outrageous example of white privilege, and so was her defiant response to the controversy.”

TOD family, what is behind the news media new obsession about the lack of access for WH photojournalist? What is their motive? What are they planning? I’m always wary when Fox news starts something, and the rest of the media joins them in parroting the same fake outrage. NBC news spent a segment on this on their evening news with Kristen Welker along with Ron Fournier expressing their outrage and basically accusing the WH of propaganda. These people are beginning to scare me with their constant obsession with President Obama and everything he does. I can’t shake this horrible feeling that they’re planning something very shady. I hope the WH refuse to give them anymore access beyond what is required.

I think they are mad because they haven’t had any real scandal to report on. They just know something is being hidden from them. I hope the White House doesn’t give in to them. The press corp wouldn’t report the thruth if they saw it. I trust Jay Carney to handle them.

      • December 15, 2013 at 7:59 pm

I’m with mtmarilyn, but they don’t care about anything being ‘ hidden’. They just want to ‘invent’ a scandal.

        • December 15, 2013 at 8:07 pm

I totally agree – they just want to manipulate any access they get to President Obama, and create a false narrative. They are pathetic.

And when was the last time media photographers were invited into the private quarters of the White House to, oh I don’t know, take a quick shot of Bush while he was brushing his teeth? Or choking on a pretzel? Or even a quick shot of Laura Bush on her treadmill?

The President has an official photographer to take official photographs. The others get to click whenever they are granted access, no more, no less. I’m with you on calling bull on everything else about this non-issue.

Rikyrah, I am with you 100%! The media are looking for every opportunity can catch the President off-guard and take pics that they can then use to promote their negative depiction of President Obama and his family. The media’s obsession with the so called “selfie” is a prime example of why they are obsessing about the so called “lack of access” to the President.

So Christmas comes early to Washington? Because war on christmas?

    • 39 jacquelineoboomer
      December 15, 2013 at 9:11 pm

The politicos will all be going “home for the holidays”!

Speaking of War on Christmas … What’s so absurd is that I recall it became politically correct (and even courteous, God forbid, pun intended on the latter) in this country to use the term “Happy Holidays,” so that non-Christians and non-believers would not feel excluded.

So I guess we don’t need to worry about them anymore, eh, FOX?

I even remember occasions when I worked for the federal government way back in the 1980s when we switched verbiage in the office, in written or oral greetings, to be inclusive. It was supposed to be appropriate in official or public settings – or even in retail establishments – to use “Happy Holidays,” even when Christmas (I don’t remember that Jesus’ mother hung ornaments or put cookies and milk on the table in the stable for white Santa the night He was born, but I digress) aka holiday trees were visible.

Nobody was “forbidden” to say Merry Christmas 30 years ago, white Santa was still Ho-Ho-Ho-ing, nobody BY FREAKIN’ LAW had to change over, but most did in one way or the other, when they felt it was appropriate or expected. As consenting adults, trying to do the right thing in a society.

The sun still rose on Holiday morning, and we all still got to open our Holiday presents.

So, FOX, technically the War on Christmas started at least 30 years ago … when President Obama was not in the White House, I might add. Next scandal about which to hawk books? How about War on A Living Wage?

JOB, I’m with you on the change of language many decades ago when we were all trying to be sensitive to the many cultures we encountered in the work place. It’s considerate to say happy holidays to people whose religion you’re unsure of and I refuse to care what right wingers think about it. They conduct a constant war against everything and everybody we hold dear. So, to hell with them. And Happy Holidays to all.

I saw that same segment and it infuriated me. I tell you, it’s got me quite alarmed. I wish there was an effective way to organize against these hit pieces by the press. They want control of POTUS and family image. I think they feel threatened by internet access and want to be solely in charge of what the country sees and hears.

Left-wing candidate Michelle Bachelet has been elected Chilean president for a second time, with her run-off rival conceding based on partial results.

With nearly 90% of the vote counted, Ms Bachelet had 62% to 38% for Evelyn Matthei, a former minister from the ruling centre-right coalition.

Ms Bachelet first served as president in 2006-10, after which she was obliged by electoral laws to stand down.

She narrowly missed out on outright victory in the first round last month.

Ms Bachelet is now set to become the first leader in Chile to serve two terms since the military rule of Gen Augusto Pinochet in 1973 to 1990.

    Al Giordano will be happy.

I am hopelessly behind on TOD, and not sure if this was posted yesterday.

But, keeping in the spirit of the season and today’s WH festivities, seems appropriate now.

BobFR, saw that you’re having Twitter problems on Firefox. I’m on Windows OS, and Twitter is completely non-functioning for me on Google Chrome – I think it appears as it would if you were a developer — not user friendly, won’t display photos. I reloaded the Windows OS yesterday but that didn’t help — thought I downloaded a virus along with Google Chrome — conduit search — turns out it’s not malicious, just annoying — I got rid of it — but it’s how can Google, with all the resources at their disposal allow crap to download with their browser? There’s no question where it came from — I accessed the Internet only twice after reinstalling the Windows OS – once to download Chrome on IE, the other when Chrome was successfully installed.

Ask one of the birds which door the other bird would tell you was heaven, then choose the opposite door. If you ask the truth bird, he will tell you that the lying bird would show you the hell door. If you ask the lying bird, he will lie to you and will show you the opposite of the door the truth bird would show you (which is the heaven door). So you pick the opposite door and you are in heaven.

No, and I’m still mad about that injustice. And didn’t they say that Joy Reid would be the permanent sub until they hired a replacement? That would have softened the blow somewhat, but they had Ari Melber hosting the show every day last week——-that’s a big drop off in quality and in reason to watch—-gigantic, in fact.

“This interview was different, you know?” Harvey said. “I think I talked to him the way most people don’t talk to the President.” “I told him I wanted a man on man interview,” he continued. “I don’t care about the politics. It’s not important to me. Look, he’s a great guy. There’s a section of people that don’t agree with anything he does. There’s those of us that get it. Let’s talk about family, and the wives, and Christmas. You know, let’s talk about those girls, we got girls the same age, and how we feel about fatherhood.”

Asked about the so-called “funeral selfie” at Nelson Mandela’s memorial, Harvey said “It was perfectly fine. So what? It was a celebration of life. Mandela, you know, it wasn’t like what happened to Martin Luther King, he was taken from us at an early age. Mandela lived. It was a celebration of life. People want to be seen with the President.” He also defended First Lady Michelle Obama’s expression in the now-famous photo. “First of all, it’s like a 30 second soundbyte,” he said, adding “If you take a 30 second soundbyte of anybody at anytime, they can appear crazy. A photo of this woman who could have been thinking about Mandela’s life, anything could have happened. They want to take this and make her out to be — I have met her. I don’t know a sweeter person. My wife has met her, I don’t know a sweeter person.”

Howdy doody all you O’s!!! It was and remains a great getting up day on planet TOD!!!!!

So I thought I’d finish off the shopping when much to my surprise, the auto is sitting on a flat in 4 inches of snow! So now what? I have no clue about flat tires and I sure don’t know how to change them. I guess I’ll be contributing to someone’s happy holiday, when they bill me for the trip charge, change the tire charge, get out in the cold charge, gotta get low to the ground charge, car facing the wrong way charge, etc… oh and the tip…..there’s always the tip.

      December 15, 2013 at 8:22 pm

{{{Cookem}}} I like your spirit – ‘contributing to someone’s happy holiday’. 😀 I wonder though, why you would go out shopping when you don’t really HAVE to? I mean 4 inches of snow should be a deterrent….. shouldn’t it? (So says someone who hates shopping.) Also, have you considered AAA? Not knowing how to change tires (despite my one lesson years and years ago) I regularly pay the automobile association for stuff like that so when I’m stumped I just call them. In fact, I’ve been paying them for so long, and my car’s been so ‘good’ that I initially forgot to call them last year when I needed a tow, or jump start 😀

I know, right? I’m not even shopping for gifts, but rather for the house (coming along nicely). I had AAA, but went soooo many years never needing them, that I decided to let it go. Of course, this is when I need them. Oh well I’ll think of something. I ain’t scurred no tire!

It’s that ‘insurance’ thing, CM. 😉 I went for years and years without using mine (kept it even when my vehicle was new), but was so relieved when I remembered that I had it the day I needed it. I actually added on my offspring (who doesn’t drive) this year, because I got a better rate on travel insurance from them when we were sauntering over to LA in the summer. I’m not as intrepid as you – if I can get someone else to ‘work’, I’ll let them. I’m all for building their character. 😉

LOL! OK, Let me try my hand at “Obama photo” interpretation since this seems to be the new “hot” thing to do: Whoever is talking/singing/performing is probably making a reference to PBO, he’s feeling touched by their words and Sasha is smiling at whatever they’re saying. The person in the background is also looking at PBO to see his reaction. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      • 110 vcprezofan2
        December 15, 2013 at 8:58 pm

What kind of a sane interpretation is that, Hopef? Obviously, PBO was daydreaming, not really seeing what was going on on stage and Sasha, knowing her father well, is snickering at him. PBO was probably dreaming of the African selfie. The guy behind is actually shaking his head that PBO was off in la-la land. You can see by his blurred image that he was shaking his head. Pay attention!
