Going on a bender in one hour with my buddies. Any tips how to preempt the mother of hangovers?

Good morning Chips and all. This morning there are dire predictions of a winter storm and lots of snow, which puts a big crimp in shopping and other Christmas plans–if it happens. Hope everyone else has a sunny day. despite the grim anniversary.

We had a horror of a summer storm heading our way a few hours ago took a minor turn northwards – and no doubt flattened someone – we had 3 spits of rain. I admit to being pleased we don’t do snow. Stay safe in your world.

You may have heard recently that seven out of 10 California doctors were “boycotting” the state’s Affordable Care Act exchange, known as Covered California.

At least, you’ve heard it if you’ve been following right-wing news sources such as Fox News, which is alive to the irony that so many physicians in “deep-blue California are rebelling against the state’s Obamacare health insurance exchange and won’t participate.”

Like every other mention of this statistic, the Fox story hangs it on Dr. Richard Thorp, a rural internist who is president of the California Medical Assn.

In the news business, this yarn would be classified as “interesting, if true.” But there are a few problems with it, starting with: It’s not true.

In fact, according to Covered California, the only source with verifiable numbers, some 58,000 doctors, or more than 80% of the state’s practicing physicians, will be available to enrollees in the exchange’s health plans.

The “boycott” claim originated with Richard Pollock, a reporter at the conservative Washington Examiner, whose piece doesn’t appear to reflect how the California exchange actually works.

“That article was wrong,” says Molly Weedn, spokeswoman for the CMA. “We have no idea how many doctors are participating. We don’t collect that data.”

In fact, Pollock’s sourcing for the data in his original article, which appeared Dec. 6, is highly questionable, if not flat-out worthless. Pollock revised his story on Tuesday after he got called on it by the CMA. He now says there’s no organized boycott. But he’s still seems to have the story wrong.

Covered California says that the doctors participating in its exchange plans include 100% of Kaiser Permanente’s 14,000 California doctors, 43,000 taking HealthNet patients and 35,000 in Blue Shield’s network. (There’s probably some overlap between the latter two networks.)

If Obamacare were so bad/terrible, why do people have to make up stories about it? So far almost ALL the negative OCare stories in the last 2 months have had to be retracted, corrected or further clarified for misleading reports

      G’morning amk!

Our country is in danger of becoming complacent re: the mass shootings…they have so frequently now…the shooting happens and we recoil in horror….watch the wall to wall news coverage…watch all the experts talk about why…….lament that there are not effective gun safety laws…and then in a few days we go back to whatever we were doing prior to the shooting….meanwhile …children are being gunned down everyday on the streets of our cities for which we may or may not notice…and never give a moment silence for….

We talk a lot about 2014 and trying to regain control of the House and increase our majority in the Senate….but I know that unless we are motivating…organizing…on the grass roots level…it is Not going to happen…one thing that we have learned from PBO…is that with a huge turnout we can win…in fact it is the only way we beat the money….

if we want to effect this gun violence in America we have to be as organized as the opposition and bring those folks to polls to vote….
