He has been as crucial to Mr. Obama as any presidential adviser in history, like Harry Hopkins to Franklin D. Roosevelt, said former Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota, for whom Mr. Rouse worked for 19 years, including as chief of staff for a decade, when Mr. Daschle was the Democratic Senate leader. One colleague said Mr. Rouse has “almost a peer relationship” with the 52-year-old president, providing unvarnished advice.

“I trust him completely,” Mr. Obama said in the interview. “He is a model of discretion and he has no ego, and he’s as wise as they come. So I think it’s fair to say that for the remainder of my term in office he will continue to be somebody who I talk to a lot and rely on heavily.”……..

Soon after Mr. Obama’s re-election, Mr. Rouse said, he told the president that he would help with second-term staffing issues and then depart. “Four months?” Mr. Obama asked him. Sure, Mr. Rouse replied, he would stay four months. Weeks later, Mr. Obama told advisers in a January meeting that Mr. Rouse had committed to stay the year. As surprised colleagues looked at Mr. Rouse, he objected, “Excuse me, but I thought we said four months.”

    “Whatever,” Mr. Obama replied.

The anti-choice group Right to Life Michigan used the obscure provision, which says that a proposal can go directly to the Legislature if three percent of state residents sign in support of the initiative. The House and Senate can then pass it without the possibility of the governor’s veto – if both chambers act within 40 days of the state canvassing board’s approval of the initiative’s validity. Right to Life submitted 315,477 signatures, more than the required 258,088.

The legislative initiative provision has been used only four times in the state’s history; three of those times were by Right to Life Michigan

We have to be as diligent…as thorough….as persistent…as organized….we cannot take anything for granted…

Will you cover for me with the blog tyrants thinks it’s too long? I have to leave. Yes, it’s on Amazon. He’s advertised before but I forgot the details. I’m terrible at keeping secrets. 😉
Over the course of his long and distinguished career, god has literally seen it all. And not just seen. In fact, the multi-talented deity has played a pivotal role in many major events, including the Creation of the universe, the entirety of world history, the life of every human being who has ever lived, and the successful transitioning of American Idol into the post–Simon Cowell era.

Now, as the earth he has godded so magnificently draws to a Mayan-induced close, God breaks his 1,400-year literary silence with his final masterpiece, The Last Testament.

As dictated to his mortal amanuensis, 11-time Emmy Award–winning comedy writer David Javerbaum, God looks back with unprecedented candor on his time in the public sector. He takes us behind the scenes of Genesis, setting the record (un)straight on the real first couple, Adam and Steve, and challenging long-held notions about the viability of containing a phylogenetically complete double bestiary within a 450,000-cubic-cubit watercraft. For the first time, he breaks his silence on Jesus Christ, shedding light on a father-son relationship as heartwarming as Will and Jaden Smith’s. And he reveals his true feelings about his third great faith, Islam, WHICH ARE NOTHING BUT POSITIVE AND RESPECTFUL.

“U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry gave a passionately pro-Israel speech this past weekend at the Saban Forum in Washington. On matters concerning Israel’s security, its international legitimacy and its demographic future, he showed himself to be a true friend. There are people in Israel — there were people at the Willard Hotel, where Kerry gave the speech, in fact — who did not consider this speech pro-Israel, but they are deluding themselves…..

Kerry had appropriately tough words for Israeli politicians — including those seated in the front row — who argue that Palestinians can trust Israel, but Israel cannot trust the Palestinians. “President Abbas has made tough choices and he has stayed the course, despite people in his team saying, ‘You ought to get out of here, look at those settlements. They’re making a fool of you.’ Believe me, that battle’s been going on, because I deal with it every week.”

The conclusion that I drew from this, and other passages, is that Kerry is so anti-settlement precisely because he is so pro-Israel. I ran this conclusion, and others, by one of Israel’s most influential journalists, Ari Shavit (the author of the current best-seller, “My Promised Land”) who was also in the room for Kerry’s talk. “All my doubts have not melted away, but I was moved by the commitment, dedication and compassion the secretary presented,” Shavit said.”

While it would be just for Senator Reid to go ahead and nuke the filibuster on legislation, he’s likely not going to do it. 1.3 million more Americans are going to suffer because of the GOP.

So, Senator Reid and Leader Pelosi are going to be able to bring intense pressure on the GOP in early 2014 – to pass unemployment insurance extension – quickly, as well as, intense pressure to raise the minimum wage and vote on the Senate’s immigration reform bill in the House. By Jan 2014 the value of #Obamacare will be undeniable making GOP obstruction on these other societal issues just that much more untenable. They either quickly cave legislatively or they are going to experience an even larger electoral disaster on 4 Nov 2014.

Their obstruction and embrace of teabagger fanaticism is not going to work out well, no matter what they do. Repairing that damage is not going to be easy or quick.

    No equality in the law

“Cooper pointed out to guest G. Dick Miller that District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced a 14-year-old poor Black teen to a 10-year-sentence within the state’s juvenile justice system, while Miller’s client, 16-year-old Ethan Couch — an affluent white teen — was given an extended probation in what Cooper described as resort-like conditions.”
