        You’ll appreciate this.

Saw upChuck early this year on Chris Matthews’ old half hour weekend show (that aired at the convenient time of 5:30 am Sundays, LOL).

It was a special in Feb on the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles first single “Please, Please Me.”

The panelists were asked for their fav Beatles tune.

Everyone but upChuck had normal responses:
        Katy Kay – Something
Joe Klein – A Day in the Life
        Other panelist… don’t remember
        upChuck – Helter Skelter

Really? Of the entire Beatles catalog, his favorite was Helter Skelter? About mass murderers? How sick is that?

On that show he talked about being a Music major in college, that he played the French Horn.

Arapaho – I could barely get past your “upChuck” terminology without falling off my chair laughing! Then I read his musical choice and gagged. Again. The guy’s a loon! Every time he opens his mouth, everybody else bows their head in both angst and awe.

I notice there was a discussion earlier about whether the budget was pro Repubs anti-Dems, and someone referred to the idea that things aren’t always win/lose……. Here’s is the same theme PF58 mentioned coming from SP (I think) – that PBO is a broader thinker than that. Jim makes the argument (a familiar theme of his) using PBO’s Saban interview as context this time around.

“The Iranian question, particularly now that Netanyahu has called the interim deal “an historic mistake”, is prone to black/white, either/or conversations, interpretations, and positions. So is the question of an Israeli-Palestinian two state peace agreement. Almost no difficult problems are ever resolved with this level of thinking. “If I win, then you must lose” thinking and negotiating is always a power game: the winner wins by defeating the loser, or by convincing them that they will be defeated – so why not surrender now. When dealing with an enemy – declared and agreed to by both sides, most modern and very smart leaders stay with win/lose, either/or thinking. These leaders might be good at win/win negotiations in certain situations; but with a categorized and labeled enemy, this seems too dangerous, and we rely entirely on black/white. either/or.

An integral thinker always thinks in a both/and frame. That doesn’t mean they can’t take decisive action – this is the mistake the GOP made in the shutdown: they thought Obama would cave and negotiate, because that’s what he always seemed to have done. The President didn’t blink; the GOP were clobbered. An integral thinker and leader can act decisively, and does so with deep conviction and confidence; just because he or she looks at every situation initially as both/and, does not mean a time won’t come when the and disappears, and decisive action is taken.

Watch the video. Try to notice all the ways the President demonstrates both/and thinking. And remember: Congress and Conservatives are going nuts that Obama is abandoning Israel, and folks in the press are just waiting to pounce. And remember that Bibi is soon to be up on the stage as well. Here are just a few both/ands that I will point to:

    >> He criticizes his opponents’ frame for the discussion as a choice between We Get Everything We Want/Iran Gets Nothing and War (“other options”). He says he would love it if those were the true alternatives; but they aren’t. Iran is not going to give up everything and say the US and Israel are right. The 6 month freeze to test if a deal can be made is a real option that Iran will consider; which is why we have a preliminary agreement.

    ………..// ”

Jim Stewart’s blog is fantastic. I read that particular article with great pleasure. I had found the President’s interview at Saban Forum pretty masterful, but Mr. Stewart’s analysis made me watch the interview again. And he’s right on the money.

Thank you so much VC for sharing this! Jim Stuart is a brilliant writer and a fearless TRUTH teller! President Obama was absolutely masterful! I am so glad Jim Stewart ended hi piece by quoting Matthew 5(9):

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.”

The Preliminary 6 months nuclear deal with Iran is crystal clear evidence that President Obama prefers peace making to waging war with unpredictable human consequences. I am so proud that I voted for President Obama not once but twice. He is, without a doubt, a very intelligent, thoughtful and wise leader. It’s really sad (and tragic for the future of the U.S) that there are so many Americans, especially the right wingers and their media enablers, who have vowed to use every means necessary to obstruct everything President Obama does or tries to do.

Thank you to teachers, everywhere! Fun to receive a call from my third-grader granddaughter tonight, making me wait while she got a pencil and wrote down – and then repeated back to me, as though it were magical news – one multiplication and one division problem with the answers, which she’s just learning, from her “excellent” school day. I told her that her exuberance about math sounded just like her dad’s when he was growing up. (As a young teenager, he also once said to me, “What do you MEAN you don’t understand algebra???????” He was sickened by my lack of interest or comprehension.) (Sickened!)

Must’ve been a difficult choice for Grifter of the Year, between Sarah P and GG! Maybe Sarah is a little passé this year….after all her book tour is not wonderful, and hasn’t sold what she wanted. GG was in the news too much…..I think Sarah will be jealous!!!

Apparently, Glenn Greenwald is Pissed that Pope Francis has been chosen Time’s Person of the Year, instead of Snowden.

That seals the deal for me. He IS the grifter of the year.

I would be curious to know Greenwald’s history… his childhood, his relationship with his parents, etc. He has anger problems, I’m sure of it. He sees the world in black and white, he is very suspicious of others, isn’t able to have a debate and gets nasty the minute he is opposed.

Not to say that a debate on surveillance and secrecy is bad. It is good and is necessary. But Snowden and Greenwald are thowing the baby with the bathwater. I’m completely put off by their hyperbole. And they have probably endangered the National Security of the United States, and hampered the ability of the administration to resolve problems by diplomacy. Hence they are making the world more dangerous.

I was thinking after I posted that, COS, that seeing Nelson Mandela’s quotes written out are nothing when compared to hearing him actually say those remarkable lines. Good thing we can still hear his “recorded voice.”

JOB, I think people who postulated about human immortality anticipated the incredible technology of “recorded voice.” As long as I can hear Nelson Mandela’s speeches, in his own voice, he is, without a doubt, immortal.

my first thought too, but she’s the person who actually wrote the story that was featured in the previous post. they probably should’ve credited her better than just a “more here” link, but she seems to be overacting and not understanding what was done with the piece. TOD was promoting her work, and if she feels they should ask for permission first, then she could simply ask them to take it down or try to understand the situation better before freaking out. (edit: i see her name now at the top of the post…didn’t notice that before, so that’s good too). hopefully a full understanding will happen soon and we’ll be good.

          • December 12, 2013 at 12:52 am

Ah yes, 4more! I’ve had an even more intense day than usual so had no idea what this was all about. My typical approach when I’ve been away is to go to the bottom of the most recent thread and work my way backwards.

When I got to the previous thread, the first thing I noticed – minutes ago – was the story UT posted. She clearly credited the author – Peggy Reilly and linked to her blog.

Ms Reilly should consider dialing back the outrage and realize she’s just been featured at a site that receives vastly more traffic than her blog – and no one was attempting to ‘steal’ anything from her.

Her ‘all caps’ series of tweets bespeak a rather deranged personality – thankfully she has #ObamaCare as an affordable option if she doesn’t already have good health insurance.

I have been so angry about the way the US media ignored, trivialized, disrespected and twisted the beautiful historical President Mandela’s funeral and PBO’s exceptional speech (one for the ages).

    simply disgusting!!!

I am glad I was able to watch events live so I do have to disbelieve my own eyes – and I can go back and watch what I want (which I have done using material here and other places)

I am tired now so I will try not to say something I feel – but I wonder at the level of disrespect shown to the departed and PBO & FLOTUS who were honoring the Great Last Liberator of The 2oth Century and the disrespect towards the people of SA.

    I will not forget this!

It’s a bitter pill for all of us who understand what just happened. But, together, we will try to remember the good parts. Don’t let ’em eat your heart up! They have nothing to celebrate, and the rest of us can’t stop celebrating these good souls. Be brave. Let’s all hang together. As I’ve been reminded myself, “There’s an endless supply of paint.” (And nothing I just wrote trivializes what you wrote, which I also totally understand and empathize with, in my own heart and soul.)

I have the intention to send the link to President Obama’s speech to everyone I know who didn’t have time, or didn’t take time to watch the whole speech. Prefacing my message by telling them that the speech was very well received around the world, was a standout among the other speeches that day. And since the media concentrated more on the handshake of Castro and on the fabricated “Selfiegate”, I wanted my friends and family to be aware of a good speech by the President of the USA.

      WE ARE the media.
