My night owls TOD peeps. I need a favor. PLEASE vote for these folks:

They are fierce advocates for public schools and specifically children with special needs in Philadelphia.

PARENTS UNITED FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION as “Non-profit of the Year” & EILEEN DUFFEY, RN, as “Do-Gooder of the Year.”

And as other TODers have mentioned, there is also category for EX-COMMUNICATION, Gov. Tom Corbett is a choice. It’s the only time that I have EVER voted for him.

I think if I could qualify myself as a psychotherapist I could make some funds treating recovering TODers after 2016. There has got to be a few cogs loose for most of us regulars. 😉

            Good night! I’m fading fast.

I will need intensive, long term treatment. Starting Jan 19, 2017 (in fact, starting election night, 2016). Actually, even the thought of this is depressing – I need to sign up for treatment right now! 😉

So sad to see this beautiful memorial day tarnished by the repression in Ukraine.

What’s happening in Ukraine has Putin written all over it. To think that some people looked at Putin as a hero a few months ago. Poor fools. Putin is and has always been an authoritarian, a bully. He stalled on the Syria situation during at least two years, and only relented after President Obama, who didn’t have any choice, made a serious threat.

Your President is hailed by the world as everything that is good in the USA – and the US media is fixated on a handshake. If ever there was any doubt that the GOP and the US media are warmongers and racists of the worst kind – this is it. They would prefer the US to hate on every country, every person who is other than a white male anglosaxon.

They pretend to believe in democracy and are doing all they can to turn the US into the new version of apartheid. They learned NOTHING from the life of Nelson Mandela – and are learning nothing from the life and times of PBO. There are times when I forget to be like Nelson Mandela – and sometimes – whether Christian or not I need the words pounded into my head “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”

Excellent commentary 99ts. This should be front-paged. Something about PBO’s excellent speech and uniquely warm reception from the people of SA today made the US media VERY uncomfortable – because it spoke an undeniable truth that none of their silly reports can ever obscure.

Chris Cuomo of CNN got defensive when called out on his silly and childish focus on the handshake. He tried to act as though he simply reported about it in a nonchalant way. I pointed out to him that PBO shook the hands of every dignitary and head of state he came into contact with – so why is the media singling out one handshake, crickets from Cuomo.

So much here to savor. I have all night or early in the morning to finish up my reading. Thanks, Chips, UT, LL for the beautiful stories you told in pictures and words about President Mandela. What a speech by PBO, right?

Have a good evening folks. Lots of work to do tonight.

  28. 63 hopefruit2
    December 10, 2013 at 8:59 pm

I think today the US media was truly dumbfounded, if not STUNG by the exceptional reception that PBO received at that memorial…I will admit that even I was a bit surprised by the almost unique appreciation for PBO that the people displayed. Yes, I was expecting a positive reaction from the crowd, but this had a uniquely reverent and sharply contrasted element that simply blew me away. This is one for the history books…long after the handshake, selfie, and other US media-manufactured nonsense have faded into obscurity….

That’s my “Let me Finish” segment for tonight! 🙂 🙂

Bob, I feel sick about this. World leaders have to join in a massive condemnation of Yanukovych and his puppet master, Putin. Yanukovych has lost all authority to lead–he’s nothing but a repressive dictator who thinks he can just model Stalin and start killing and injuring people. He has to be removed.

Our press is amazingly positive – especially about that handshake – what a difference to the US press
“Handshake between Barack Obama and Raul Castro offers hope for US-Cuba ties”

Analyst Jorge Gomez Barata said the Obama-Castro handshake was simply a result of “Mandela diplomacy” – and a testament to the example set by the anti-apartheid icon and South Africa’s first black president.

“Mandela did not know that such a meeting was going to occur … but he most certainly cleared a path that allowed for the avoidance of confrontation and created the basis for such an important meeting.”

I think POTUS is going to get the long term unemployment extension. Here’s a portion of his comments tonight on the 2 year budget deal:

////Today’s bipartisan budget agreement is a good first step.//////
And while today’s agreement is a good first step, Congress has a lot more to do on that front. In the immediate term, Congress should extend unemployment insurance, so more than a million Americans looking for work don’t lose a vital economic lifeline right after Christmas, and our economy doesn’t take a hit. And beyond that, they should do more to expand broad-based growth and opportunity – by creating more jobs that pay better wages, by growing our economy, and by offering a path into the middle class for every American willing to work for it.

it’s been a good day, huh hopefruit? This news on a budget means the gears are finally moving.

I was at work all day so just now got a chance to listen to our President’s tribute to Mr. Mandela, Just beautiful, wow. Once again showing billions around the world that the United States has the capacity to provide leadership through dignity, grace and unity. Not sure it erases all the harm we caused around the world during GW Bush era but I’ve never heard that thunderous applause EVER for any elected official before. He is changing the world.

President Obama and democrats have “isolated” the problem of UE benefits. They will apply political pressure to republicans so they don’t cut benefits before Christmas. And democrats will REFUSE to touch the present budget deal.

I’m afraid that the President will , AGAIN, see his Christmas vacation cut short. But he will WIN. AGAIN.

      • 123 99ts
        December 10, 2013 at 10:10 pm

It wouldn’t be Christmas if the GOP didn’t separate the President from his family for part of their vacation – only GOP Presidents are allowed to have vacations.

Did anyone catch any of Rachel tonight were she were talking about the media wanting the Sandy Hook 911 tapes released. They sued and got them released and it was up to the media to play the 911 tapes, well most decided not to play the Sandy Hook 911 tapes, except for CBS and Fox. They played the tapes. If I ever had any doubt that CBS News ain’t worth shit, I no longer have any doubt. I used to respect Scott Pelley so much. But CBS has really sunk low. They are disgusting.
