    Congrats on 1st Allison!!

Have been reflecting on what a powerful combination a phrase consisting of 2 words as a shared goal of a Pope and a US President. Mighty powerful catalyst, for sure, and we’re already witnessing the consequences ….

PBO hired @JonHuntsman to be Ambassador to China. Then @JonHuntsman left the post to Run for an unsuccessful presidential election, rejected by TBGOPers and in his ThirdWay crap is Not even successful there too?

Why is @JonHuntsman the expert over POTUS that designed his own China Policy?

I received the following email this morning from Democratic Party of Georgia (it goes along with the video Nena posted in the previous thread). It’s a little lengthy but it goes to show why GA (and other states with Republican leadership) may not be doing as well with ACA enrollment.

Atlanta, GA – Recently, Georgia State Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens spoke at a monthly meeting of the CSRA Republican Women’s Club, an affiliate of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women. In his remarks, Hudgens compared pre-existing conditions, such as cancer, hemophilia, brain tumors, arthritis, and asthma to having a car accident that is ā€œyour fault.ā€

Transcript: ā€œI’ve had several companies come in and they have said just the fact, just the fact in the individual market that pre-existing conditions now have to be covered on January 1st, that is going to double the cost of insurance. And, if you don’t really understand, what covering pre-existing conditions would be like, it would be like in Georgia, we have a law that says you have to have insurance on your automobile, you have to have liability insurance if you’re going to drive on Georgia’s roads, you have to have liability insurance. You don’t have to have collision, you don’t have to have comprehensive, you don’t have to have rental car or towing or anything else. You have to have liability. But, say you’re going along and you have a wreck and it’s your fault. Well, a pre-existing condition would be then you calling up your insurance agent and saying ā€˜I’d like to get collision insurance on my car’ and your insurance agent says ā€˜Well, you’ve never had that before. Why would you want that now?’ And you say ā€˜Well, I just had a wreck, it was my fault and I want the insurance company to pay to repair my car.’
And that’s the exact same thing on pre-existing insurance.ā€

ā€œThese remarks illustrate how callous and out-of-touch Ralph and the Georgia Republican Party have become,ā€ said Democratic Party of Georgia Chair DuBose Porter. ā€œIt is awful to think you could tell a woman who was just diagnosed with breast cancer that it’s her fault.ā€

Porter added, ā€œGeorgians need affordable health care, regardless of their medical history. Our insurance commissioner, at his own admission, has done everything possible to keep that from happening.ā€

Find coverage of our release here:

AJC: Ralph Hudgens compares pre-existing conditions to a car wreck that is ‘your fault’
ā€œGeorgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is no friend of the Affordable Care Act, and he recently opened up a new front of attack on an aspect of the law that even many of his fellow Republicans say they like: guaranteed coverage for pre-existing medical conditions.
The video above was taken from Hudgens’ appearance last month at the CSRA Republican Women’s Club meeting in Evans and distributed today by the Georgia Democratic Party.ā€

Think Progress: Insurance Commissioner Compares Pre-Existing Conditions To Car Wrecks: ā€˜It’s Your Fault’
ā€œPerhaps it isn’t surprising that Gov. Nathan Deal’s (R-GA) administration is advancing the insurance industry’s line on Obamacare. In September, Deal revealed that he had taken over half a million dollars in contributions from the health care industry through a Super PAC whose activities were kept secret until an investigative reporter uncovered corporate donations to the group over the summer. Many of those donations — including $50,000 checks from United Health Care, Inc. and WellCare of Georgia — came from major insurance companies that are opposed to Affordable Care Act’s consumer protections, like the coverage requirement for Americans with pre-existing conditions. Other donors included Humana, Blue Cross, and Aetna.

AJC: Hudgens walks back remarks about chronically ill people
ā€œAugusta resident Amy Swann said Wednesday that Hudgens’ comments angered her.
Swann, 49, suffers from a genetic heart condition that killed her father, cousin and other family members.
ā€˜I feel really sad that (Hudgens) doesn’t understand that there are people in his state who have health problems that through genetics or environmental factors are no fault of their own,’ she said.ā€

Georgia Report: Hudgens learns that there’s no escaping the cameras
ā€œInsurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, who has stirred up several controversies with his unvarnished criticisms of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), did it again Wednesday over remarks he made that seemed to imply pre-existing medical conditions were a person’s own fault.ā€

      Background:

AJC 8/29/13: Ga. insurance chief brags about sabotage of ObamaCare
Ralph Hudgens bragged to a group of Republicans in Floyd County that he and the GOP officials in the state were doing ā€œeverything in our power to be an obstructionist.ā€
Video of Hudgens’ remarks made August of this year: http://vimeo.com/72592158

Huffington Post 9/5/13: Obamacare Obstructionists Are Ironically Doing A Great Job Raising Awareness Of Exchange Navigators
In the same address to Floyd County Republicans, Hudgens admits to stonewalling the licensing process for health care navigators, saying ā€œWe have passed a law that says that a navigator, which is a position in that exchange, has to be licensed by our Department of Insurance. The ObamaCare law says that we cannot require them to be an insurance agent, so we said fine, we’ll just require them to be a licensed navigator. So we’re going to make up the test, and basically you take the insurance agent test, you erase the name, you write ā€˜navigator test’ on it.ā€

WSB-TV 10/28/13: Georgia insurance commissioner: I hope Obamacare implodes
In a recent interview with WSB’s Lori Geary, Hudgens says of Obamacare ā€œI hope the whole thing implodes.ā€

This conjunction of President Obama and Pope Francis is a mighty event. One thing that angers the far right…Koch Brothers, etc. so much about these two people, is that NEITHER one of them can be bought. They are not for sale….Not everyone has a price….and these are two who do not.
People with money assume everyone has a price and when they discover one who does not, they scream and yell and lie, because they that means they cannot get their way.
    I LOVE IT!

The FBI has captured one of its most-wanted white collar criminals thanks to a recent episode of CNBC’s ā€œAmerican Greed.ā€

David Kaup, who has been on the run since he confessed to defrauding more than 50 families of $11 million in mortgage refinance scams, was arrested last week in Las Vegas. Kaup was featured on the November 14 episode of ā€œAmerican Greed.ā€

I never thought I’d see a world without Nelson Mandela. There are some people who you never think death could touch because they are such wonderful people who’ve done so much good in the world.

The world truly has lost a beautiful soul. May his gentle yet courageous spirit rest in everlasting peace.
