Well today our President sits down with spittle for an interview. Who knows which of Tweety’s personalities will show up today. God Bless President Obama for trying. I’m sure he’ll do fabulous regardless of how our lazy, sloppy, good for nothing media tries to spin it.

    Off to work I go….

    Good morning, TODville!!

  8. December 5, 2013 at 8:04 am

Out of all the events that took place yesterday, the news focused on Sunny and the little girl who tumbled in the hope that it would be considered a terrible gaffe. Even my local news did an extended piece on it, but at least they did it from a cuteness and sweetness angle and they showed how immediately after the little girl got up and started petting Sunny. They also showed another clip of FLOTUS kneeling down working to try and get a stain out of another little girl’s sweater. Always the Mom!

    • December 5, 2013 at 8:31 am

Yes, this story was more in the news that our President’s very important speech on inequality – and like you said, many of the outlets were not covering it for the “cuteness” factor but rather because they hoped that it would be interpreted by some as another Obama faux pas. UT posted a tweet describing what happened after wards and I’m glad that your local news covered it.

      December 5, 2013 at 9:33 am

I think most people saw it for what it was, Sunny was not trying to hurt the little girl. And I saw one anchor woman who said that she has a little toddler and their dog is always knocking her toddler over. If there is anyone out there who want to try to make this into some more then a harmless accident, they are sick, in the head not the body. Beside the little girl’s father said that she was alright and she had a nice time.

Actually, Sunny didn’t knock the little cutie down. Sunny startled her and she backed up and tripped over the little boy’s walker (the rear wheel). My goodness…we would be better off if MSM would just go away.

If some Republicans are sounding just a little bit desperate right now, I think I know why. “Obamacare is not just a broken website,” House Speaker John Boehner sputtered the other day in retreat as it emerged that the website is now working well. “This bill is fundamentally flawed.” He sure hopes he’s right about that—and by the way, Mister, it’s a law, not a bill. But I bet late at night, when he’s having that last smoke and thinking back over his day, he fears that he’s wrong and that the central Republican…“idea,” if you want to call it that, of the last three years—get rid of Obamacare—is going to look awfully stupid to a majority of Americans eight or 10 months from now.

But in between the decontextualized disasters and the stories with Hollywood endings will be millions of people to whom nothing particularly dramatic, but something very positive indeed, will have happened. They got insurance, or decent insurance, for the first time in their lives. They went and got their first physical in years. They had that bad back checked out finally. They took their child to an eye doctor and got her glasses. That’s not dramatic enough for a television ad, but any parent will understand that a child going from struggling with reading to being able to read easily at school is plenty dramatic.

Yeah. It’s a BFD. Thank you, President Obama:)

Still mad about Bashir. It was the one program I tried to catch every day——rest of msnbc programming is mostly just background noise, imho. But Bashir was smart and fearless and entertaining and his show snapped. And—–I read that in addition to apologizing to the viewers and Phil Griffin, Bashir had to apologize to Joe Scarborough! Why??? What is the sway he holds over msnbc? He supposedly had to apologize to Morning Jerk because Bashir’s Palin comments would cause Jerk embarrassment with his conservative friends. What?????? Just a revolting development all the way around. Our news biz is in such a state of shambles.

    • 55 hopefruit2
      December 5, 2013 at 8:54 am

He had to apologize to Joe Scarborough for THAT?!?!?!? This is truly sickening…as you said, highly revolting. Glad I haven’t watched MSNBC for over a year now.

    • December 5, 2013 at 9:12 am

“Bashir had to apologize to Joe Scarborough”

      Oh good friggin’ grief, unbelievable.

    • December 5, 2013 at 9:31 am

During Bashir’s criticism about Sarah Palin likening future debt to slavery, he included a number of descriptions about her lack of intelligence including:

      • America’s resident dunce
      • World class idiot
      • Rank ignorance

But although the headlines/accounts say that Bashir said that someone should “sh**” in Sarah Palin’s mouth, he actually said that she qualified as a candidate “for a dose of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood”. This cruel and brutal punishments ranged from flogging and pickling to pi**ing and defecating in the slave’s eyes/mouth. However, the media’s account makes it seem that Bashir actually *said* the words, “someone should “sh**” in Sarah Palin’s mouth,” [although it can be inferred that that is what he meant.]

Well Cantor show he doesn’t give a dam about anyone who is not like him, white. When I think of these bastards talking about impeaching our President, if that little child had ran into POTUS he would have treated her like she matter, like she was a human being. Oh how I wish we could get rid of these racists ass Republicans, like Cantor..

    • 77 hopefruit2
      December 5, 2013 at 9:11 am

As I’ve been saying, all this recent negative MSM coverage of PBO is to help the GOP in 2014. That’s the narrative they’re aiming for – to make the strongest Dem politician seem like a liability in order to fool weak-kneed Dems into distancing themselves from him. But – they will NOT succeed.

      • 78 jackiegrumbacher
        December 5, 2013 at 9:40 am

HF, the Republicans have ALWAYS underestimated the depth of people’s love and sense of loyalty to our president. It cost them in 2012 and it will cost them again. They think their intense hatred is contagious, but it’s love that’s contagious. It doesn’t matter how much tv and newspaper media the right wing owns. They can’t change what’s in our hearts and minds. That’s why we must tune them out and turn them off and concentrate on our own communications.

I’m really disappointed in Mia Farrow. I thought she was better than that. And her weak defensive excuse about MSNBC putting out a poll for the public is ridiculous and just as distasteful as the initial move to push her son’s name. Glad that people called her out!

But the message Reid is trying to send to fellow Dems is important. The message is: We can’t go back to the old system, as Republicans would do, and voters instinctually get this. Meanwhile, over time, as more people sign up, and more positive stories emerge, the politics of this can only get better, and the Republican position will become increasingly untenable.
The truth is that, whatever nervousness remains among Dems, they are mostly shaping their strategy around that premise. This has been true for awhile now — the rollout fiasco obscured it temporarily but didn’t meaningfully change much — and the coverage is beginning to catch up with this basic reality.
For Democrats, turning around the D.C. media narrative on the health law is important. It would make it less likely that Dems get skittish again if there are more problems with the law in 2014, which is likely. It would also help maintain a sense of unity that would work in Dems’ favor, particularly now that there are some scattered signs of Republicans breaking away from the party’s repeal position.

  26. 90 desertflower
    December 5, 2013 at 9:23 am

MEDIA NOTES DEMS GOING ON OFFENSE ON OBAMACARE: The New York Times has a big piece spelling out all the ways Dems will be pressing the case for the law’s benefits in the days ahead. It’s moving forward on all fronts:
The president’s aides said that with fixes in place online, they hoped a daily barrage of more positive messages about the health care law during the next several weeks — some to be delivered by Mr. Obama personally — would help refocus attention on its benefits….House Democrats have begun passing along positive stories in their districts — of constituents obtaining insurance for the first time and gaining access to preventive care — during coordinated morning speeches that have become dueling anecdotes from the health care wars. On Thursday, members will focus on pre-existing conditions; next week, the theme is Medicaid expansion.

Offense. Good. This is from Greg Sargent….

    December 5, 2013 at 9:23 am

Well, we TODers wrote our Obamacare narrative several weeks ago. The media has no choice now. Facts are facts. And while they may think they succeeded at dragging down the President’s poll numbers while helping the GOP for 2014, they’d better think again. A huge shock awaits them.

HEADLINE: President Obama Quotes Pope Francis, Rush Limbaugh Quickly Loses His Mind

// During a speech Wednesday about income inequality, President Obama quoted Pope Francis. Well, upon hearing that President Obama had quoted the Pope, Rush Limbaugh’s head seems to have damn near exploded. During his Wednesday talk show, he went on an absolutely pathetic rant (as most of his rants are):

“This is the president citing the pope, his new best friend, because the pope is ripping America, the pope ripping capitalism. And Obama’s having an orgasm. Jeremiah Wright is beside himself. Jeremiah Wright thought he was Obama’s preacher, now pope somehow has co-opted Obama.”

First, the Pope never once called out the United States in his statement. Capitalism isn’t flawless as many Republicans seem to believe that it is. Income inequality, due to corruption within capitalism, is a real problem. It’s also unsustainable. //

AJAM has been on an anti-Obama track with their tweets this morning…not sure what this is about. Apart from the fact that this story is grossly misleading, you can’t help but detect the same disrespect that goes with the Libertarian school of thought – referring to him as “Obama” and not “President Obama.” Trying to suggest that he is “different” from other Presidents without providing the TRUE context, which is that MORE people have illegally leaked information under HIS presidency than under any other. In fact, many of the same people (including Snowjob) who wouldn’t DARE commit such acts during the Bush Presidency suddenly feel empowered to do so under Obama’s Presidency.

This is the question that AJAM needs to be asking. Why are there so many more leakers since 2009 than there have been prior to. But instead they’re busy pushing Emo-Libertarian drivel about PBO prosecuting leakers…
