WJLA: President Obama Visits Politics And Prose On Small Business Saturday

President Barack Obama is doing his part to support small businesses. Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha dropped in Saturday at Washington’s Politics and Prose bookstore and purchased what he said was a “long list” of books that included “The Kite Runner,” ”Harold and the Purple Crayon,” and “The Sports Gene”. The president said he bought a reader for every age, from 5 to 52 – his age. Obama sent a tweet earlier Saturday about the importance of supporting small businesses.

Ashley Killough: Obama Does Some ‘Small Business Saturday’ Shopping

President Barack Obama continued what’s become an annual post-Thanksgiving tradition by stopping at a bookstore for Small Business Saturday. With his two daughters alongside, the President went to Politics and Prose in Washington to pick up a few books, telling reporters he bought a “long list” of titles for every age group, including his own. List of books purchased by Obama, according to the White House:

We had a great day. Really enjoying these slow days. Our big playoff game is next week. We are having a rebuilding year and was grateful for getting this far. It is good to have a slow political day.

Happy Saturday fellow TODbots. I did some online shopping at from 2 local stores who have websites. I hate shopping in a crowd. I’ll hit some stores when it’s not so busy. I am taking down fall deco and getting ready for Christmas deco. That’s my annual Thanksgiving weekend fun.

Now both girls are as tall as their mom and dad. Such beautiful young ladies. Are there any pictures of the shoes Sasha wore?

So good that the president and the girls gave such business and attention to Politics and Prose. As book stores close everywhere, we do need these smaller stores to survive, especially ones that offer as much diversity as this one. We went to a small coop/farmer’s market this morning for our groceries. Got the freshest lettuce, eggs, some wonderful cheese and quinoa. The place was offering free soup to celebrate small business shopping day. It was friendly and the customer service was great.

Did two stops. Now going back out to my last stop at a musical instruments from around the world in a lovely college town nearby. Had to come in and get a small portion of a lettuce wrap that I made from a local produce market in the community.

Good to see our POTUS, Sec. of Transportation, and our Attorney General and his wife out walking the walk. I love our team. HZ

Who among us isn’t going to check that book list to see what we’ll buy for ourselves, “just because” the President did? Huh?

Thanks for the post, UT! Good afternoon, TODville! Before I go buying any books, I’ve got to see what I missed reading on TOD, earlier in the day!

Steve Kornacki had that today on his show and on Friday on TRMS.

The person who got that letter is trying to sell it now for $24K. He was trying to gin it up that POTUS had used the word Teabagger. Yes…they try to make it a slur. But POTUS used the word the man used initially to rebut the charges against POTUS.

        November 30, 2013 at 6:21 pm

        November 30, 2013 at 7:51 pm

That guy should hear the words I used, like tea bagger is the new name for the KKK. One thing is clear, these people don’t know how to show respect to black people.

    • 75 utaustinliberal
      November 30, 2013 at 5:59 pm

They talked about it on Up With Steve today and had the same question because the guy (recipient) is apparently spinning negative stories about President Obama to the New York Post and telling them that Pres. Obama said ObamaCare was a bad law to pass and blah, blah, blah. He also said President Obama used “Tea Bagger” to mock him but POTUS only used the word because the man used the word “Tea Bagger” to describe how he thinks President Obama views the GOP or something. They also said he’s trying to sell the letter for a quick buck.

Thanks Nena and UT. I’ve been a tad out of the loop this week and I don’t watch Steve Kornacki’s show. Hadn’t heard of this letter before. I knew as I read it that the President was repeating that term the way the guy he was responding to wrote it, but, of course, some folk would try to turn into some controversy. Haters are so predictable! 🙄

Did the local hardware store for some bathroom repair stuff, paint and possible a new wc. My revenge against the Home Depot and Lowes. I try to shop there whenever I need household repair stuff. This past summer, I used tile for the vestibule from there and even found a local (literally less than 2 blocks away) small business (in his basement) cutting tiles. There is NO WAY I would have been able to cut a few of the tiles to the exact size that I needed for two corner areas.

    KEEP SMALL BUSINESSES ALIVE!!!

Thanks so much everyone! Chuckling at your comment, Dudette! You see, only one of my knees will bend, the other (right knee) refuses to bend past about 80 degrees, making it necessary to perform some rather interesting (and humorous) adaptations to the yoga I have practiced since my teens (my knees were bending quite well until March 2013! Roberta, I have ni doubt I will surely sleep the sleep of the just tonight. I hope you are right about the unpacking! G’night Y’all!

    • November 30, 2013 at 7:46 pm

      Ha!

Was about to post this, which I’m pretty sure that @nycjim tweeted at the time.

This was a significant goodwill gesture, but I’m still convinced that the ball really got rolling with PBO’s letter of congratulations to President Rouhani in August.

Of course the seeds were planted on Jan 20, 2009 as PBO has been remarkably consistent since Day 1 and has extended outreach to Iran every year since then.

Iran is such an important country in the Region, not only because its storied history and culture, but also in its strategic geographic location.

Is it possible to be any more strategically located than between Iraq and Afghanistan and a neighbor of Russia to boot?

Every time I turn around, I’m reading about billionaires giving to Republicans. Two billionaire brothers Donald & David Hall are the owners of Hallmark. They do give to charities (so do the Kochs), but that’s a front. The Hallmark Movie Channel has very little diversity in the casts of its movies. There is also a religious (Christian) undercurrent in most of their movies.

Get out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although I watch Hallmark movies (mostly bubble gum sweet, cute movies) I have been irritated about the lack of diversity. Matter of fact, just this morning the thought came to my mind, to send them an email about the lack of diversity. But the info about their donations to the GOP, I will have to find some other movie channel…darn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Indy and Zionsville, In. for fam Tgiving get together—–son in law did all the cooking for our din—-wasn’t that nice of him? Did our small biz Sat. shopping today in downtown Zionsville—-a very cute and eclectic mix of mom and pop shops. We purchased some books also at Black Dog Book Store, a great little book store in an old house serving coffee and tea while you shop and browse. Downtown very busy today with people from all over snooping and shopping in stores awaiting the great xmas parade at 4:00. Lots of people brought their doggies who were all decked out in their xmas finest. We all loved the kids toys and clothing stores—–my 4 yr. old grandson got a handsome fedora—funny and cute—got many compliments up and down the street. Found some eclectic gems at a great gift store. All proprietors gave extremely personal service, beautifully gift wrapped all gifts free of charge, even provided gift tags. My new grandbabe got many ooooohs and ahhhhhs as she looked like a little doll sleeping through all the hubbub. It was a good small biz shopping day in little Americana. Also did my part in my hometown in Illinois before we left—-getting some gifts to bring before we left, supporting our local stores. We all agreed that we are going to do all our xmas shopping at local businesses this year. We’re done with the big corporate owned stores where many of their honchos are making more in an hour than their employees make in a year.

Hi my beautiful TOD family. Just returned home from my Small Business Sat., shopping. I had a wonderful time. Drove over to a lovely college town and shopped at a great music store. Instruments from all over the world. I purchased a Concert Ukulele and a Xylophone. Met some lovely people while choosing my ukulele. A couple about my age. The grandparents bought a Soprano Ukulele for the mother of their grandchild so the mother could learn to play along with the grandchild.

Then I went to a little shop that buy clothes, sell, and trade clothes. The shop is lovely for a college town. Clothes for the young and young at heart. Lots of vintage items. Fun place to shop, and they were giving a 20% off. I purchased two lovely sweaters. Fun place indeed. I will go back since they get new items daily.

I spoke with several people about shopping at our Small Businesses and the music store whipped out their Small Business Bags. Great!!! The city was filled with excitement for a Sat., for sure. Spent a nice amount in the city and enjoyed every moment of my day.

(((((((((( MightyPamela lots of loving hugs for you.))))))))))) Get some rest and relax as well. HZ
