A Thanksgiving Rise and Shine: 50 Thank Yous to the President

50 Thank Yous to our President on this Thanksgiving

1. Thank you for never giving up the fight for the Affordable Care Act – ‘ObamaCare’ – and bringing comprehensive health insurance to 30 million people.

2. Thank you for expanding health coverage for over 4 million more children with the Children’s Health Insurance Authorization Act.

3. Thank you for putting two qualified and outstanding women on the Supreme Court.

4. Thank you for refusing to hide the cost of war, unlike your predecessor.

5. Thank you for bringing the Iraq war to an end and bringing troops home to their families.

6. Thank you for your courage in bringing OBL to justice when the naysayers derided and mocked you for your promise to the American people.

7. Thank you for choosing diplomacy first with Syria and securing a deal that began the removal and destruction of chemical weapons.

8. Thank you for pursuing diplomacy with Iran through sanctions not war and pushing for an interim deal that came to fruition after 34 years of failures.

9. Thank you for the drawdown of the war in Afghanistan and putting an end date to combat involvement by troops.

10. Thank you for improving America’s image abroad by stretching your hand out to allies and non-allies alike, beginning with your 2009 inaugural address and your historic Cairo speech.

11. Thank you for the New START Treaty that reduces the overwhelming number of warheads in the world.

12. Thank you for the Executive Order that banned torture, reversed GWB torture practices, and restored the United States in accord with the Geneva Convention.

13. Thank you for increasing funding annually for the Veteran Affairs Department and for the new G.I. Bill which helps veterans achieve the dream of an education.

14. Thank you for providing $4.3B in funding for 9/11 responders proving that this nation is behind them not just with words but with deeds.

15. Thank you for having a Department of Justice that takes seriously any effort to suppress people’s right to vote.

16. Thank you for having a diverse cabinet and administration that looks like the America of 2013 and not the 1800s.

17. Thank you for the Claims Resolution Act which made sure African-American and Native American farmers received $4.6B for being cheated out of government loans.

18. Thank you for doing your part to reduce the horror of gun violence by issuing regulations and rules that will, hopefully, save lives.

19. Thank you for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act aka ‘Stimulus’ that drastically reduced unemployment and prevented the lay off of teachers, cops, firefighters, etc.

20. Thank you for rescuing the auto industry and saving over one million jobs when everyone on all sides of the issue said it was a foolish idea.

21. Thank you for 44 months of economic productivity and 7.8 million private sector jobs.

22. Thank you for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which has protected and helped millions of people recover money from corrupt financial institutions.

23. Thank you for Wall Street Reform and Credit Card Reform that put regulations in place to prevent another Great Depression and protect consumers from predatory credit card companies.

24. Thank you for cutting taxes for hardworking middle and working class Americans through the American Recovery and Investment Act – and not the 1%.

25. Thank you for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which helps women fight discrimination in wages and salary.

26. Thank you for expanding funding for the Violence Against Women Act.

27. Thank you for the Matthew Shepard – James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act which makes it a crime to attack an individual based on their religion, race, gender, and sexual orientation.

28. Thank you for the Tribal Law and Order Act so that Tribal Nations have greater authority to prosecute criminals.

29. Thank you for establishing the White House Council on Women and Girls that makes sure all agencies evaluate the effect their policies have on women and families.

30. Thank you for appointing more women, minorities, and LGBT judges to the federal bench.

31. Thank you for fighting for DADT repeal and supporting marriage equality at a time when it could have been maliciously used to hurt your re-election chances.

32. Thank you for repeated increases in financial aid and Pell Grants and for reforming the student loan program by making sure banks don’t unfairly profit at the expense of the student.

33. Thank you for the first increase in fuel economy standards in over a decade. Thereby ensuring that a gallon of gas takes consumers not from point A – B but from point A – Z.

34. Thank you for combating the effects of climate change by issuing strict regulations on plants and factories that pollute the environment.

35. Thank you for investing $90B in renewable energy technology through the stimulus.

36. Thank you for refusing to wait for Republicans in Congress to act on immigration reform and issuing a Deferred Action Executive Order and also making sure relatives of military members can stay in the country with their families.

37. Thank you for restoring FEMA’s professionalism, ensuring fast and effective responses to disasters, helping people in need.

38. Thank you for removing restrictions on stem cell research and pledging federal support for new biomedical research.

39. Thank you for the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act that makes sure children don’t go hungry while at school – and for improving food safety by making sure the FDA received $1.4B in the Food Modernization Act and helping increase its regulatory power.

40. Thank you for loving, appreciating and promoting the power of science – and having fun while doing it.

41. Thank you for increasing funding for National Parks and Forests thereby making sure that historical landmarks are preserved for future generations.

42. Thank you for providing funding for the Smithsonian Museum of African-American History and protecting the funding during budget negotiations.

43. Thank you for establishing the White House Office of Urban Affairs that makes sure under-served communities have access to education, housing, sustainable communities, funding for businesses, etc.

44. Thank you for holding the first online town hall at the White House, streaming every White House event, voluntarily disclosing the White House visitors log and doing your best to make the White House as transparent as possible to the American people.

45. Thank you for the $8B in funding that brought broadband internet to low income rural families.

46. Thank you for the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which encourages people of all ages to go out into their communities and the world and do their part in achieving a world not as it is, but as it should be.

Wait a minute, Pamela, you are rising and shining much earlier than I expected! I figured you’d be giving the body a little extra rest after moving and before the Thanksgiving festivities start.

Wishing you, Pamela, a ‘Happy, Enjoyable Thanksgiving’, whatever form it takes! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

As If! The thankful part is well and truly activated, but the day of rest part is still a few days out. Today is set up to make several trips between old dwelling and new refuge. I will bring all the small bits which I can mangae to carry or to put into smaller boxes, or which require hand carry, not movers! A I set up and empty boxes inside, there is now a bit more (but not much!) room to get finished up. Essentially, I am downsizing into a place 1/4 the size, and have enjoyed seeing things I put out on the nature strip with a FREE sign, being picked up in disbelief by neighbors and people driving by who stop! Two weeks ago, an embarrassingly enormous load went out to charities, and other re-use type places. Also have had donations trucks stopping by regularly. 25 years is too long a time to stay in once place. Won’t be doing that again! Am gone now, may be able to check in later during the tryptophane lull!! 🙂 Be well, be blessed. Special greetings of Light to you, HZ, and to President Obama, the First Family, and those they love. I hope and pray it is a relaxing day for them all, and that PBO does not have to be called to the office. Bye!

Oh UT, you have brought me to tears. That is the most beautiful lineup of why we love our POTUS. There is so much to be thankful for. This is why we are here.

Thank you to Chips for this wonderful place for all of us to come. And thank you to all the Blog Tyrants for the time spent in keeping us informed. And to all of you who bring information from far and wide to keep us informed on what is really going on in our world. And to the internet that has given us the opportunity to talk to people all over the world. To know what is happening without the msm spin, sometimes its not always good. Especially to all you wonderful people who kept encouraging all of us to get involved in twitter. Last Saturday’s experience of the Geneva Talks was so beyond anything I could ever imagine.

I am so thankful to be alive today. Hope everyone has a beautiful day.

I also want to express my concern for all those who won’t be having a good day, all those who because of our Congress won’t have the food to eat. This will keep us fighting to get our POTUS a congress he needs next year. FORWARD

Dems in 2014…..Minimum Wage, ACA, Income inequality, Voting Rights as a Constitutional issue, Women Not a legislative issue…OUR bodies are ours alone and our Temple, Education and Infratructure as ways to create Jobs…….then Campaign Funding, make TBGOPers defend that……..Those alone should get attention of every voter in USA.

What a beautiful post! Thank you UT for reminding us of what the President has been able to accomplish, in just five years! We have come far. It’s almost difficult to remember the eight year nightmare we lived through.
Thank you Chips for this wonderful spot, and thank you to everyone who contributes…..I learn so much here!
And, personally, I’m so thankful, that today, at this moment, my family is healthy and well. A year ago that wasn’t so, but thanks to good doctors and MEDICARE, my husband is healthy and his old self.
Everyone have a blessed day…..and may we all continue to work for blessed days for those who are desperately in need.
Thank you all for being here.
Had to get the turkey in the oven and myself showered before I could even come here. Now, I have a short time to enjoy this. Dinner’s at two…..y’all come!!!

Just watching? Wow! Thanks Layla, that’s a good find that speaks to me for sure. Instead of following the link, I’ll make a note to start watching …. next week. See, if one waits long enough, research will provide an easier solution to many previous problems, and I don’t mind this kind of waiting. 😀

You have created a space here that represents so much of what is true, loving, respectful, brilliant in mind and compassionate in soul, and I thank you. You give others the opportunity to be trusted to share their brilliant gifts as your wonderful contributors, and I thank you. You raise the bar in such a loving and respectful manner to shed so much wonderful lights on what it means to work with a brilliant POTUS and Not against a nation. We are the people, and you show us daily that we have a loving responsibility to work together to make this space here and in all of our spaces, ones where love, talent, intellect, and respect can dwell peacefully side by side. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah to everyone…..I’m thankful that I live in the age of Obama, I ‘m thankful for this blog that helps keep my head on straight and my hair doused from fire, I’m thankful for each and everyone of you who show such love and compassion for each other, I’m especially thankful for Chips and her Merry Band of Worker Bees who keep us up to date and life positive, I also am thankful to my family who decided for the first time in my 71 years to start a new tradition, keeping me out of the kitchen. Cooked turkey breast and small ham and we are having turkey sandwiches and ham biscuits and loading the children up to go to Tanglewood Park to see their beautiful light display, and eat dessert of roasted marshmallows over their big bonfire. Yahoooooo no clean up no stress….Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Of all the days for my system to start acting up it chooses today when more people are free to drop in. My internet has gone off and on – computer told me to check the modem lights which seemed to be lit just fine, but I still couldn’t get on. Now that I’m back, the rate of response seems slower. Honestly, my computer does all kinds of things to get noticed. 🙄

I’m making my sweet potato pies at the moment…my contribution to dinner. I also have been requested to bring green beans, not green bean casserole. My recipe includes fresh green beans, bacon and mushrooms.

I am so thankful that I am on this earth while Barack Obama is our President. No matter how difficult the fights have been and will be, all I have to do is look at him and his beautiful family and I’m uplifted. Then I come to TOD and read 50 Thank Yous to the President, I am further uplifted. God Bless each and everyone of you and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
