Yesterday when I was assisting people at the Enrollment Fair in Salem, Oregon, a woman I was helping in her 60s with multiple health problems, who would qualify with her husband for expanded Medicaid, thanked me as she was leaving, and added, ” I don’t like it when people critize the President and the Governor for the problems with the website. The important thing is the service is there for people, and if I have to come down here to sign up, I don’t mind at all. I’m just grateful it’s here.”

Awesome. Brilliant, Bob R. People see through the Gimmicks and the hate.

Hence CNN and others changed their Poll number samples and the demographic numbers to get their desired downward numbers……I truly believe that.

Love that quote Bill! Thank you for sharing it and for the incredible work you’re doing!

I’m glad you brought it here from the previous thread as I was just about to do. 😀

This is quite heartening Bill, and we appreciate your sharing these first-hand accounts of real people valuing the difference the ACA makes in their lives. Seems the media only focuses on paid plants, or agenda-driven political opponents as “examples” in their reporting. People like this woman, not so much…

For the last several weeks, the consensus in establishment circles was that the Affordable Care Act’s open-enrollment period was not only a disaster, but a catastrophe that would destroy Obama’s presidency, the Democratic Party, the American health care system, and the very idea of progressive governance. Pundits could hardly contain their analogies – this was Obama’s Katrina, Obama’s Iraq, Obama’s Watergate, Obama’s Iran-Contra, and even Obama’s Bay of Pigs.

But the funny thing about narratives is that they’re sometimes fleeting. Ezra Klein suggests today that “Obamacare” may finally be “turning the corner.”
There are increasing reports that HealthCare.Gov is working better – perhaps much better – for consumers than it was a few short weeks ago. “Consumer advocates say it is becoming easier for people to sign up for coverage,” report Sandhya Somashekhar and Amy Goldstein in the Washington Post. “The truth is, the system is getting stronger as it recovers from its disastrous launch,” writes Sam Baker in the National Journal. Applying “was no problem at all, with no delays,” says Paul Krugman.

      Good article Nena,

HOWEVER: Ezra Klein needs to SHADDUP with his silly declaration about Obamacare “finally turning the corner.” He spent the first 4-6 wks trashing the rollout, Obamacare, PBO, predicting eternal doom and gloom, even using GOP talking points when convenient. We don’t need Ezra Klein’s assessment. We already made our assessment on Oct 1 – the first day of the exchanges. Now that he has helped the Koch brothers do their damage, he’s trying to come back into people good graces with his piddling little columns about ACA turning the corner. He can KMA while GOING TO HELL!

NEW YORK — CBS News correspondent Lara Logan will no longer be hosting the annual press freedom awards dinner hosted by the Committee to Protect Journalists on Tuesday night, as she had long been scheduled to do.

A CPJ spokeswoman confirmed Logan would not be hosting but had no additional comment. Scott Pelley, who anchors “CBS Evening News,” is now scheduled to host the event.

The CPJ dinner, which honors intrepid journalists working in difficult conditions, is not usually a controversial event.

To clarify the map, which I think is maybe Norwegian (anyway something Scandinavian):

Yellow highlighted area is a proposed (or actual, not sure which) oil drilling field in the South China Sea
The greeh highlighted area is fertile fishing ground and shipping lanes from Okinawa to Taiwan mentioned in the 2nd tweet.

The red dotted line shows the area eastward of their mainland that China claims as theirs
The blue dotted line is where Japan says their territory ends

Hence the dispute. It’s all about economics.

Thanks for posting this. I use this service at the Philly airport and thought they made minimum wage. As I travel frequently, usually at the same time of day, I’ve gotten acquainted with several of the WC assistants — Leo, a Haitian immigrant; Stephanie, who’s smile lights up the airport; a young lady who’s name now escapes me, who is a member of the National Guard; and so many others. These folks make my travel less difficult and always with a smile. I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience with these folks. I normally tip them $5.00, looks like I need to step up my tip.

Mark Halperin raised the specter of the notorious Obamacare “death panels” during an interview on Monday.

Halperin was speaking to Newsmax host Steve Malzberg when the subject came up.

“You believe there will be rationing, aka death panels?” Malzberg asked.

“It’s built into the plan,” Halperin said. “It’s not like a guess or like a judgment. That’s going to be part of how costs are controlled.”

Talking Points Memo pointed out that rationing was not actually “built into the plan”:

In fact, the Affordable Care Act does not include death panels.

The law explicitly prohibits the Independent Payment Advisory Board — which aims to control costs — from rationing health care.

Lest we forget, the “death panel” idea was chosen as PolitiFact’s “Lie of the Year” back in 2009.

Thank yoooooooou UT, my trip to the vet with Danny took about an hour longer than I expected, mainly because he had to cope with adoring hugs from every person in the building. Happy to report, he didn’t eat the vet, was surprisingly well-behaved, and is super healthy. She said he’s only a teeny bit overweight, but is the largest three month old Lab she has EVER seen 😕 What have I done?

Any way, will have a heads up for PBO’s 3:15 EST speech next.

      A teeny bit overweight?
Hmmmm, I suspect Cheesy Puff treats…

It’s time for an exercise regime Danny – now give me 10 sit-ups/sit-downs!

      • November 26, 2013 at 2:05 pm

😆 He’s doing them already GGail, on me – especially when I’m using my laptop, he gets severely annoyed when I’m not paying attention to him. Severely!

Ha! that explains why he only a teeny bit overweight 😆

Babies have a tendency to become annoyed “severely” when they are not the center of attention when they are awake.

I’ve told you – fit him for a saddle.

They’re a hoot when they ‘turn on the charm’. My Kasper is a little hellion, while Nickelby is well-behaved and gets all the good attention. because of it. Last time I took Kasper to the vet, he ‘got the memo’. He was charming, well behaved, ‘brave’ about shots and blood tests. Using his gorgeous Maltese/bichon eyes to great effect. A real charmer, the little fraud.

Turkey gate has to be one of the most ridamndiculous faux drama I am still having trouble wrapping my head around. Who ever is spinning this comes across as idiotic. seriously. Let them wallow in their ignorance for all to see.

Some of them are clever enough to couch it in the context of Presidential Pardons for individuals who’ve been sentenced to prison for minor offenses…we need to push back and let them know that we see their attempts at disguising their agenda, and we know what it’s really about.

Just wanted to come in from lurking to wish everyone a wonderful and peaceful holiday. Up to my “a” in alligators, so I probably won’t be able to return. Gotta figure out how to revise a menu for six to one for twenty-two! I just don’t know how to say no to someone who says they have nowhere to go. My turkey’s too small and I haven’t enough of anything else, including tables and chairs. Help!!!!! Off to the grocer…again. Hope you all have a glorious day. Don’t eat too much. I take that back…pig out!! 🙂 Toodle!
