Again , china claimed 2 islands that threaten Japan security. US has flown 2 B-52h bombers over area. Japan warships and US carrier group speeding toward area.
China has Carrier group also headed toward area.
This is like Cuban missile crisis and it’s barely being covered by MSM.
All they care about is a bad poll and obamacare.

I’m not Catholic, but Pope Francis, surprises me everyday ………link to full Vatican Document http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium_en.html

“In this context, some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” Francis wrote. “This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”

“Just as the commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say ‘thou shalt not’ to an economy of exclusion and inequality,” he wrote. “Such an economy kills.”…….

“I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security,” Francis wrote.

The top story on Google News is about the US flying 2 B-52s over China’s newly declared air space over couple of islands it claims. I await the cablers to cover it with the depth and perspicacity they bring to everything.

Congrats on first, LL. Thanks for the shout-out this morning, Chips!

A real nuts & bolts primer of the 6 month, negotiated, interim deal, forged this past weekend.

So what does Iran get in return for its concessions and cooperation?

Some $4.2 billion of the less than $7 billion of sanction relief tendered to Iran comes from the country’s own assets frozen in foreign banks. Moreover, the grinding sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and banking sector put into place by the E.U. remain almost totally intact (the concessions involve loosening commercial restrictions on gold, automobiles and pharmaceuticals). As London-based analyst Shashank Joshi puts it: “Iran will still be forfeiting over three times as much in foregone oil revenue as it will gain in relief.”………..

This deal with Iran is special, it’s special in that the world gets the chance to see Iran up close and personal and Iran gets to show the world that they want to be good neighbors. But that’s not what I’m talking about, this deal is special in that it puts Barack Obama along side the great men and women of history that stood up for peace at the expense of themselves. I think over the weekend President Obama crossed over into a special place, he seems so tall while those that try to battle him seem so small.

Yes Don. Shakespeare put it like this in Julius Caesar: “Why man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus. And we petty men walk under his legs and peep about…….”

Yes…..that is exactly right. We are living now in the time of a genuine Colossus…..we’ve become so used to petty men, and a boy, as Nance Greggs reminded us this morning, that many are hard put to recognize what we have.

No-one should be surprised that the US has acted as it has. Washington’s first reaction to China’s unilateral extension of its airspace was robust.

The idea that Washington was going to start filing flight plans with China before flying over the East China Sea was a non-starter.

But this is more than just a squabble over flight rules.

Washington is watching China’s military build up, its arguments with neighbours, and its “blue-water” ambitions with alarm.

For seven decades the US has been the dominant military power in the region. China has given Washington notice that change is afoot.

Peaceful management of that change is one of the great strategic challenges of the 21st Century.

    • November 26, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Yep. This is the ‘real deal’ that some of us have been watching closely for the past decade (while, of course, US corporate media has had effectively zero coverage). One of the great harms caused by GWB and the #NEOCONSTERS illegal war on Iraq is how much it weakened overall US National Security because of the damage it did to both our economy and our credibility. Had McCain or Romney been elected what is unfolding now would be profoundly more dangerous. But, #PBO has known from before he became President that this challenge would dwarf any that he has resolved or is trying to resolve in the ME.

      Its adults only, now.

Looks like Dudette is missing out on this thread.

      From this morning:

      Dudette posted these tweets:

      And offered this clarification:
“To clarify the map, which I think is maybe Norwegian (anyway something Scandinavian):

Yellow highlighted area is a proposed (or actual, not sure which) oil drilling field in the South China Sea
The greeh highlighted area is fertile fishing ground and shipping lanes from Okinawa to Taiwan mentioned in the 2nd tweet.

The red dotted line shows the area eastward of their mainland that China claims as theirs
The blue dotted line is where Japan says their territory ends

Hence the dispute. It’s all about economics.”

Government grants in South Africa are helping poor girls resist the advances of older men, reducing the risk of getting HIV, a study says.

The Oxford University study found that girls from homes which received child support grants were two-thirds less likely to date older men for money.

Young girls are up to three times more likely to become infected with HIV than boys in South Africa, experts say.

Local officials see “sugar daddies” as a major factor in the spread of Aids.

South Africa has more people living with HIV than any other country.

Where is the Hayes and GG bandwagon now? ……..patiently waiting

…..Former NSA officer John Schindler hearkened back to previous defectors, “Back in the 1970s, Ed’s forerunner Phil Agee, a former CIA officer who got in bed with Cuban intel & KGB and authored 3 books that exposed CIA ops mostly in Latin America (sound familiar?) blew the covers of several hundred US intel officers abroad, who had to be pulled back. Also got the CIA station chief in Athens killed.” “Same thing would happen now – huge problem if true”….

“When Valerie Plame was outed as a non-official cover (NOC) officer, all her contacts were then outed as potential spies. Damage like this has a cascading effect, often affecting the lives of people several degrees separated from the intelligence agent.”

I guess it supports the US – but reality – Australia’s issues won’t much bother China – we have no physical capacity to threaten – we’ll still trade with them – because money – they buy much of what we “dig up” each year. In past times we used to have our own steel works, manufacturing – long gone.

      • November 26, 2013 at 10:33 pm

Don’t underestimate, 99. What China is doing is exceptionally dangerous and Australia, is no push over in these types of matters.

        • 88 99ts
          November 26, 2013 at 11:25 pm

I’m not underestimating what they could do to Australia Bob – but military wise there is nothing we can do alone to China (which is why we are very dependent on the US) – and if economic sanctions were involved (which I doubt would happen under our RW government), our economy would be done.

I find the never ending warring between nations disheartening. My gg grandfather fought in the Crimea, grandfather fought in that war to end wars – my father in the major one that followed – my friends and extended family in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan – yet everyone wants world peace. When it appears this is happening, someone else’s “ugly head comes above the horizon”.

Anyone have the list of Dems working with the GOPs in Congress to scuttle the peace deal by passing stricter bans on Iran? Saw the article on Rachel’s show tonight. No names were mentioned, but maybe we need to get on top of it.
