Let’s hope that translates into movement towards turning the House to a DEM majority in 2014.

        November 20, 2013 at 7:34 am

Yes, I see the media is now trying it’s best to prevent that by manufacturing shitty polls to make PBO seem weaker than he is….

        • November 20, 2013 at 7:45 am

And we both know that the question asked by the pollster is not necessarily the question shown in the results. For instance, asking if you like how the President is handling a specific issue is not the same as asking about the President’s overall job performance.

Pollsters have ways of getting the results they want and the media has an agenda. If we remember those things, it will help to tamp down the hair on fire reactions and to stay focused on the important issues.

Indeed swbluega. Actually, many people on Twitter are saying exactly what you just said. That these polls are not to be believed and reflect more about the media’s agenda than anything else.

            • November 20, 2013 at 8:00 am

It’s the tweets shared my those of you on Twitter, as well as conversations with family/friends/acquaintances that help to reassure me that people in general — people outside the media’s bubble world — are not so swayed by all the negativity.

Dudette, this video should be seen by everyone. It presents an overwhelmingly compelling reason why we must win a Democratic Congress in 2014. That Congress must then pass 1) a new, stringent voting rights act; 2) immigration reform; 3) a jobs and infrastructure bill; and 4) an early childhood legislation act. Then I would like that Congress to reverse the Supreme Court decision regarding Medicaid and compel states to expand it. We cannot continue a situation where millions of Americans die from lack of health insurance because of the political bias of a state governor. If we all had these specific goals in mind, we could spread the word and get the voters out to the polls.

t’s time, Harry. Really, it is. I was on the other side of this issue for a very long time because I didn’t want to confront the possibility of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell with the unlimited power to do anything that President Scott Walker wanted. That kind of thing still gives me pause. But this business with the judges has long passed over the International Fk You Line. One of the reasons we elect presidents is because we approve en masse of that president’s philosophy toward the law. This means we elect him so that he can appoint federal judges who will be sympathetic to that philosophy to the federal bench. For going on 40 years, we have seen a long march of conservatism in the federal judiciary, especially at the appellate level, where nobody’s really paying attention until, say, Janice Rogers Brown or someone hands down a decision making thumbscrews legal if the police are acting in good faith. It is not a great stretch to argue that this president was elected (twice) at least partly to reverse the results of that long march. That he is not being allowed to fulfill that part of his mandate does not merely obviate the power of the popularly elected majority in the Senate, it obviates the stated wishes of the entire nation by obviating the power of the popularly elected president of the United States. This is mucking around with two of the three branches of the federal government in order to work your will in the third. Moreover, it hamstrings future presidents who might share that judicial philosophy by blocking the career paths of like-minded judges. And does anybody seriously believe that the Republicans will not do exactly the same thing if a seat on The Big Court comes open? Please.

Pierce on the RW Senate madness.

VP Biden is one of PBO’s most loyal and trusted cabinet members. This fully explains why the media has been so desperate to have PBO throw him under the bus. You can know when a cabinet member is more of an asset than a liability to PBO – when the media/GOP tries to go after him/her (E.g., Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Tim Geithner, Kathleen Sebellius, Joe Biden)….

Tell the GOP media and the RNC they can all GO TO HELL!

CBS has been morphing rightward ever since David Rhodes became president in 2011. He was a former VP of FOXNews, was there at the inception setting up the extreme rt. slant, cheered for the Iraq War, defended Bush during Katrina, in charge during the anti-Obama hype of 2008 election, ACORN, Rev. Wright, Ayers, pushed birtherism.

        November 20, 2013 at 8:58 am

I also wanted to add that all of the cable and network programs have been pushing and having on RWNJs to say the President lied about ” you can keep your policy” then go polling it and pretend it’s a surprise.

What’s a surprise is that PBO is at 49% so they have failed. I would also bet that the samples are skewed.
That poll is just MSM BS.

The question ought to be do the public trust CBS? I can answer that, Hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every day I am thankful that we have two GOOD men in these two offices. I don’t know when else I could have said that. I loved what Jill Biden said at the end of her interview above: she called her mom after her first date with Joe and said, “Mom, I finally met a gentleman.” Wow…yes, indeed. Both of these men are, and set a high standard for others.
Besides being good they are ATTRACTIVE, SMART, Funny, brilliant, kind, cool, and I love them both. So thrilled to be living during their tenure!!!
    Happy Birthday, dear VP Biden.

This is very similar to the gas prices narrative of 2012…the media day in & day out kept beating the “rising gas prices and people are angry at Obama” narrative, until finally they *produced* their magical polls showing that PBO’s numbers were very low and claimed it was the rising gas prices.

Not surprisingly and thanks to the good work of folks like Jefferson Obama and others, their polling methodology was found to be highly suspect….

As our President would say: Please Proceed Media….

        • November 20, 2013 at 9:09 am

Honestly, it’s the narrative about everything having to do with PBO every damn day. It’s relentless and manipulative and wrong. Even my Republican brother sees through it.

The info about David Rhodes explains what happened to CBS. I was so excited when Scott Pelley took over the evening news. I was anticipating a return to the glory days of the network….hard hitting news, facts, clarity…..it was good for a while, then something happened, and now I know what. SO disappointed…will not watch it….and now my husband won’t even watch Brian Williams in the evening. Truly disgusting state of affairs.
Well…..off to school…..watching freshmen power point presentations on their research papers. Not my regular job, but their professor had major surgery, so I’m filling in until the end of the semester. The ones Monday were good…and I was pleased with their presentations and their viewpoints. From the subjects I had seen, I expected far right presentations (we are a small religious college in the middle of red Oklahoma) but they weren’t. They were factual, and fair, and as we know….facts have a liberal bias.

    The extrapolation fallacy
Don’t believe the hype about worst-case scenarios in Obamacare coverage

The problem, of course, is that predicting the persistence of the status quo is boring. Journalists have strong incentives to inflate the likelihood of worst-case scenarios for whoever is losing the current news cycle, which produces a lot of phony “game changers”. After so much hype and so many failed predictions, who can blame citizens for tuning these stories out?

Exactly, Meta. They seek to distract us about the benefits of the ACA and damage President Obama as much as they can.
From their pont of view, what else can they do?
They see the on coming train (ht, DF) and get that the future is bright and clear for our country taking care of its people.

A US white supremacist who targeted black and Jewish people in a nationwide killing spree has been put to death in the US state of Missouri.

Joseph Franklin was executed for shooting dead a man and wounding two others outside a synagogue in 1977.

The 63-year-old was convicted of seven other racially motivated murders. He claimed to have committed 20 in total.

His execution came after the US Supreme Court upheld an appeal court’s decision to lift a stay of execution.

In 1978 Franklin shot Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, leaving him partially paralysed, after seeing a picture of a mixed-race couple in one of his magazines.

In an interview with the St Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper published on Monday, Franklin said he had renounced his racist views.

He said his motivation had been “illogical” and was partly a consequence of an abusive upbringing.

He said he had interacted with black people in jail, adding: “I saw they were people just like us.”

A lesson for other racist maroons.

Ah yes! Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward men! http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2013/11/19/2970651/mcdonalds-advice-underpaid-employees-sell-christmas-presents-cash/

McDonald’s McResource Line, a dedicated website run by the world’s largest fast-food chain to provide its 1.8 million employees with financial and health-related tips, offers a full page of advice for “Digging Out From Holiday Debt.” Among their helpful holiday tips: “Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash.”
Elsewhere on the site, McDonald’s encourages its employees to break apart food when they eat meals, as “breaking food into pieces often results in eating less and still feeling full.” And if they are struggling to stock their shelves with food in the first place, the company offers assistance for workers applying for food stamps.

The current battle over Obamacare — particularly its focus on those losing plans or seeing higher premiums — goes right to the heart of a political problem the law’s proponents have had since the beginning: Many perceive the law as an expansion of the safety net for other people, i.e,, poor people, not something that will help them or the middle class.
A new National Journal poll illustrates that this dynamic is very much alive — but it also explains why Democrats are still better off sticking with the law, and even why the GOP position of full repeal may not be a winner over the long term.
