Thanks for the link on the previous post so I could read this at whitehouse.gov. It is amazing.
President Obama, among other outstanding qualities, is possibly the best writer living today.
I am in awe of his writing. He puts all the columnists, novelists, other professional writers in the dust. People will be reading his writings for hundreds of years. They will be studied in high schools and colleges, and passed on to generations. I teach English for one reason, I love the language, and all the great literature we have. I feel in his writing, a deep love and appreciation for the language. He is an artist with words.
Just another reason for the intense jealousy of so many. I don’t know how any so-called expert can sit in judgment on any of his speeches or writing. Not one of them can do a minute portion of what he does every day.
I will certainly look forward to the books he writes after 2017. They will be treasures.

GE Chips, TOD….. Congrats on first, Roberta! ……..lets hope the Senate D’s have “a backbone like a ramrod” like our greatest VP ever would say!

Senator Harry Reid appears set to go nuclear — before Thanksgiving.

With Senate Republicans blocking a third Obama nomination to the powerful D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, a senior Senate Democratic leadership aide tells me Reid is now all but certain to move to change the Senate rules by simple majority — doing away with the filibuster on executive and judicial nominations, with the exception of the Supreme Court – as early as this week……

….The key to understanding what’s happening now is that it is fundamentally different from the last “nuclear” standoff. In that one, Republicans blockaded a handful of executive nominations (such as Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Board) in part out of an objection to the function of the agencies they had been picked to lead. Republicans ultimately dropped their objections in exchange for Dems agreeing not to change the rules as part of a short term deal

But now, Dems have already agreed not to change the rules once, and the filibustering continues, even though Republicans admitted when the last deal was reached that they were wrong to block Obama from staffing the government. And now, the GOP position is not grounded in an objection to Obama’s nominees or to the function of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals; it’s grounded in the argument that Obama should not have the power to make these appointments to the court at all. As Jonathan Chait argues, Republicans may not have even thought through the full implications of the position they’ve adopted. But Dems have, and taking it to its logical conclusion, they believe Republicans have presented them with a simple choice: Either they change the rules, or they accept those limits on Obama’s power. And that really leaves only one option.

Reid has given them countless chances, all of which they’ve ignored. The last straw had to be when the GOP agreed on one thing but then did another. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the GOP has been playing Democrats like fiddles. Hopefully Dems have got the message now and will stop being door mats to those two faced backstabbers.

That said, I’ll beloieve Reid will go nuclear when I see it. I’ve heard the cries of wolf too many times by now.

    Cool story from yesterday evening:

There’s no telling when the first “selfie” was taken. You could argue that the self-portrait — think Vincent Van Gogh with a painter’s palette or Frida Kahlo surrounded by monkeys — is its original form, and that the artists from centuries ago influenced a contemporary trend popularized on social media sites like MySpace and Instagram.

But according to Oxford Dictionaries, the word “selfie” was first used on an Australian online forum in 2002. More than a decade later, the dictionary has decided that now is the time to recognize “selfie” as an official member of the English language. Monday, it announced that selfie will be its word of 2013, joining 2012’s “GIF” and beating out the likes of “bitcoin” and “twerk.”……

Looks like someone got jealous from outer space 🙂

In case you care. . .
I’ve never seen or heard or read a WY politician come out so vociferously against gay rights. They just don’t talk much about it. Cheney is not trying to win the Senate, she’s out there trying to get name recognition and not in a good way. We’re still ashamed of what happened in Laramie. Of course I might hang around a different crowd. The Tetons are expecting a huge storm tonight, wonder where she is? An undisclosed location?

So glad we can come here and feel lifted up by all the people who love and respect our POTUS and FLOTUS. I intend to enjoy every day of the historic Presidency and do at least one thing daily to help it succeed. Right now, I am focused on talking to people about signing up for the ACA.

Saw UTA, DF, dotster and anniebella’s comments on the last thread re: Scalia and Thomas — the most unjudicial justices in living memory.

Thomas was a speaker at the Federalist Society (a conservative legal advocacy organization funded in part by the Koch brothers) fundraiser last Friday.

Whenever some obviously mentally disturbed kid commits some horrible crime, mass shootings etc., I am always angry at the parents/families for not seeking help for what they had to know was a kid with serious mental issues. Families have as much an obligation to get help for a child’s mental health issues as they would for a broken arm or any physical illness. But here—-it looks like they did try to get help for their obviously troubled son—–he must have been in a real crisis mode at the time—–and the hospital reportedly failed them, saying they didn’t have a bed for him, failed to recognize the seriousness of his condition—and released him. Very sad.

Repub Cokehead Rep. Trey Radel was arrested by an undercover officer for cocaine posession. He had been identified as a good customer by his regular dealer who blabbed when he was arrested. Sounds like the Tea Party, avid anti-Obamacare dude was a long time customer/user and not the accidental victim of some terrible oopsie thing that happened when he got drunk one night. He tried that Toronto mayor defense—–only purchased when in a drunken stupor—-but I don’t think it’s gonna’ fly. Facts should matter.

He’s looking at 6 months in jail if convicted.

Voters please wake up and realize that electing Congressmen/women is not a game.

(Saw your post earlier today about how he won election.)

she is soo awesome…..there are three FLOTUS speeches that are at the top of my list….

no 3 is the speech she recently gave on the Power of Education…
no 2 is the speech that she gave at the Dem Convention in 2012…and
no 1…my favorite speech was the one she talked about being tired of being afraid

      • November 19, 2013 at 9:34 pm

I love this speech very much, too. I remember it very well the day it happened and I think it was the first time I got a real sense of who she really is. I listen to it from time to time whenever I need a boost.

This is astonishing to me—-Clarence Thomas headlining a fundraiser for Koch Bros. sponsored Fed. Society event. When did this become ok instead of unethical in the extreme?

    This is interesting.

“According to the Department of Homeland Security, Los Angeles is the second city to receive funding for a detection ring. The New York City area was part of the program’s pilot program in 2006. The department focusing on cities that it believes face the highest risk of radiological or nuclear attack.”
