Former Undersecretary of DOD, PBO adviser

Now is the moment of truth for Washington. A potential deal would be the first step on a path that will help make America safer. It could also be the best deal we will get. And we would not have given up either the architecture of our current sanctions or our military pressure on the Islamic Republic. But we very well may get a rock-solid verifiable commitment that Iran will not acquire a nuclear weapon. This is what a winning negotiation looks like.

plus HUGE difference…the main point of the bush story WAS TRUE. i they they planted some fake documents with dan rather, so the story could become about the supposed “liberal media” and no one knows now that it WAS TRUE what they were reporting.

this current one is a complete fabrication…yet, nothing will happen since it was done ON PURPOSE to ding president obama’s credibility. that was the goal, and for the most part it worked for them. hardly anyone will know about this “correction” and nothing will happen to those involved since they are paid to do exactly what they did…disparage democratic leaders.

why? it wasn’t a mistake. they did this on purpose. mission accomplished for the most part. thousands more who watched now think there’s some validity to the republican-created fabrication know as BENGHAZI, since it came from such a “respectable” news show. 2% of those viewers will ever know it was all made-up. see, mission accomplished.

my most favorite article i’ve read in a long time

im increasingly of the mind that senator warren is the only one who can take the baton from president obama and continue the FORWARD progress. the clinton people are coming out of the woodwork all over the place now, and “the news” has been full-on “hillary is inevitable” since our president was re-elected. remember, rupert murdoch holds fundraisers for her. hillary supporters need to ask themselves why is that, when these same people spew vile hatred toward president obama, and certainly do not hold fundraisers for him or senator warren.

i like some other people out there, but i’m not sure they have that x-factor to run against and overcome the republican-led media assault. martin o’malley is great, but he was kind of a dud at the democratic convention. vp biden is great but he’s kind of getting up in age to do this, and he’s run nationally a number of times and only manages a few percentage points so far, plus i don’t think he’s planning to run.

the clintons represent backward. senator warren is about FORWARD!

Agree with the tweet that said ‘looks like 60 Minutes is going to have to do an apology for their apology next week.’ It was really lame and weak—–‘we had no idea until Thursday that the dude was not truthful, 60 Minutes is all about the truth. Sorry. Carry on.’

  16. November 10, 2013 at 9:05 pm

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11. Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back.

“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated . . .” Logan declared in her native South African accent.
The lie is that America’s military might has tamed the Taliban. “There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”

Go home where, Yardarm? South Africa? Lara’s beloved country of her birth, formerly white ruled under Apartheid, also has a black president. Chances are that the US will likely elect a white president very soon, whereas the prospect of electing another white president in the country of her birth is extremely remote. I think Lara feels at home here; especially in right wing circles.

Boggles the mind: Shot teen’s book ‘I am Malala’ does not show enough respect to Islam, private education chief says

While Malala, has become a hero to many across the world for opposing the Taliban and standing up for girls’ education, conspiracy theories have flourished in Pakistan that her shooting was staged to create a hero for the West to embrace. Adeeb Javedani, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association, said his group banned Malala’s book from the libraries of its 40,000 affiliated schools and called on the government to bar it from school curriculums.

“Everything about Malala is now becoming clear,” Javedani said. “To me, she is representing the West, not us.”

Kashif Mirza, the chairman of the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation, said his group also has banned Malala’s book in its affiliated schools. Malala “was a role model for children, but this book has made her controversial,” Mirza said. “Through this book, she became a tool in the hands of the Western powers.”

On one side is a majority of Democratic voters, who are angrier, more disaffected, and altogether more populist than they’ve been in years. They are more attuned to income inequality than before the Obama presidency and more supportive of Social Security and Medicare.1 They’ve grown fonder of regulation and more skeptical of big business. 2 A recent Pew poll showed that voters under 30—who skew overwhelmingly Democratic—view socialism more favorably than capitalism. Above all, Democrats are increasingly hostile to Wall Street and believe the government should rein it in.

On the other side is a group of Democratic elites associated with the Clinton era who, though they may have moved somewhat leftward in response to the recession—happily supporting economic stimulus and generous unemployment benefits—still fundamentally believe the economy functions best with a large, powerful, highly complex financial sector. Many members of this group have either made or raised enormous amounts of cash on Wall Street. They were deeply influential in limiting the reach of Dodd-Frank, the financial reform measure Obama signed in July of 2010.

Judging from recent events, the populists are likely to win. In September, New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, running on a platform of taming inequality, routed his Democratic mayoral rival, Christine Quinn, known for her ties to Michael Bloomberg’s finance-friendly administration. The following week, Larry Summers, Obama’s first choice to succeed Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve chairman, withdrew his name from consideration after months in which Senate Democrats signaled their annoyance with his previous support for deregulation. Not 48 hours later, Bill Daley, the former Obama chief of staff and JP Morgan executive, ended his primary campaign for governor of Illinois after internal polls showed him trailing his populist opponent……

As you know, I’ve speculated that Senator Warren was on track for the 2016 Dem nomination. I have zero difficulty believing President Obama and VP Biden would work their butts off for her. And, as all of you know, the one other person I could be just as passionately dedicated as I have been to PBO is Ambassador Power who, unfortunately, would need a Constitutional Amendment to qualify as a candidate. I have zero time for all the 2016 convo until after we’ve decimated the GOP on 4 Nov 2014. But, come Jan/Feb 2015, if Senator Warren decides to be a candidate, she’ll have my total support.

WTF constitutes “WE”? The entire CBS staff? The entire 60 Minutes staff? The entire team that worked on airing this bogus story, including the head honchos who approved it? CBS adoption of the “Royal We,” is deliberately intended to shield individuals involved in this bogus story from being held accountable.

I think it’s really important to not let up on 60 Minutes/Logan/CBS——they can’t be allowed to just wipe their hands of this “mistake” and walk away with no further consequences. It’s an important message to send to CBS and all media outlets that they cannot keep blasting out these false stories at will. If the rt. wing could cause the firing of Rather and other related firings and a full-blown network “scandal”, however unwarranted, surely our side can effect more than that weak, passive apology for a report that was purposefully damaging and completely false.

When I worked for the Navy in Public Affairs a hundred years ago, it was once my not-so-awesome task to tell 60 Minutes that we were retracting an invitation to our command that someone without authority to invite them had issued. The un-invite came at the direction of an Admiral in D.C., because of a defense contractor issue that was erupting, which had nothing to do with the main 60 Minutes story.

When I told their lead they were dis-invited, on the phone one Friday afternoon (and there were people at two different command headquarters in other parts of the country waiting to see how I made out, because, you know, 60 Minutes), she said, “Oh, my producer is not going to like this. He’s going to think the Navy has something to hide.”

Luckily, we had given a similar story to TheNewsHour and that was my out, saying we didn’t want duplicate coverage but would invite them back on some other program yada yada yada. This is just one small story, but 60 Minutes then at the very least had the reputation of trying to get to the truth of a story or exposé, or led you to believe they wouldn’t necessarily take the word of any entity without proving it themselves by digging deep. That’s how they used to operate, pre-President Obama. Sickening. I wouldn’t watch their asses again for all the money in the world.

“U.S. Department of Justice lawyers and attorneys from Wiley Rein, who represented Shelby County, Ala., in the voting rights dispute, are expected to fight over two issues: whether the challengers are entitled to fees in the first place and whether $2 million is too much,” reported the BLT: the blog of the Legal Times, earlier this week.
