Dudette, guess they don’t get bonuses for good news. Promoting GOP lies gives them more money and higher profile jobs. How else would utter incompetents get so much tv time. It isn’t their looks or their talents. It’s their willingness to be complicit in the propaganda.

That’s gotta be it, jackie. One thing’s for sure: Helping citizens understand the world around them, make informed decisions, or live better is definitely not what they consider their mandate.

Good—-because I’ve heard some drs. complain that no one wants to go into med. school any more—–won’t be able to make enough money to pay off all those yrs. of student loans, will no longer be able to be as financially rewarded as they have been. So this disputes that claim.

If anyone’s interested, here’s some background on the USNO Master Clock shown in the image at the VP’s residence, in Dr. Biden’s tweet.

The United States Naval Observatory (USNO) is one of the oldest scientific agencies in the United States, with a primary mission to produce Positioning, Navigation and Timing for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Department of Defense … Aside from its scientific mission, since 1974, the Observatory is the official residence of the Vice President of the United States.

I went back and forth to DC a few long weekends one year, just to spread the sightseeing out. Of course, we had to fit happy hour and dinner in, every night, there’s that. Ha! Not sure if/when I’ll get back, but I’d love to see more.

President Obama and Bill de Blasio at Junior’s in Brooklyn today.

In Mar 2002, I was in NYC on business, and went to Junior’s on De Kalb (I’m assuming it’s the same restaurant). What amazed me was how *dressed up* everyone was (except for me, in my Cali casual attire). Really left an impression on me.

Really wanted to grab a Nathan’s hot dog but Coney Island was closed for the winter (I did a roundtrip on a deserted subway train).

Also wanted to visit Ebbets Field, but had no idea where it used to be (since I grew up a die-hard Dodgers fan).

    Randomly thinking out loud:

I’m so sick of blatant racism by whites in this country that Alan Grayson is starting to make sense. Have no idea what his background is on this issue (or if it’s all just his usual self-aggrandizing), so I guess the jury’s still out, but why should he not speak up? Because he’s embarrassing other, quieter Democrats? Why pussy-foot around? I really did not like the way Martin Bashir was trying to call him out on it today … as though it had to be an “either-or” discussion … as in, either Martin’s way of calling out racism was the only way or Grayson’s was. Why not many, distinct voices? Speak up, America!

Obviously, I don’t have the answer, but no sense hanging a veil over the issue of racism every time it rears its ugly head, either. I’m almost as sick of that as I am of what was said or done through bigotry and hate.

And I’m not criticizing – even remotely – how President Obama deals with the racism targeting him, nor do I think any talking heads should. He can handle it, whatever way he wishes, and doesn’t need me to give him advice. If he did, he has my phone number (well, he could get my phone number!).

    • 39 dotster3
      October 25, 2013 at 6:02 pm

I think Martin’s point was ‘why get in the gutter with them?’ with all the hyper name calling. That only escalates the hate and ugliness. I think I prefer President Obama’s style —–remain above the fray, brush the junk off—-quickly—because it doesn’t deserve attention, be true to yourself, carry on with grace and dignity, keep marching forward.

    • 40 99ts
      October 25, 2013 at 6:09 pm

It would seem to me that white people can address racism in a very different way to black people and it be generally accepted. The nature of racism does not give black people that same choice as to how and what they say. White privilege exists – even in how racism is discussed.

And I don’t have the answer either JoB.

Martin seems to forget that the UK has it’s problems to this day. He is an OUTSIDER and his frame of reference is a parallax view from a “better them than me” perch.

      • 42 jacquelineoboomer
        October 25, 2013 at 8:32 pm

Martin clearly acted all that out on his show today, I agree. It was very off-putting to me, to tell you the truth. Very. Enough to make me jump over to the Grayson side, a place I haven’t been in years.

I turned off Ed because he was going wild on a trade agreement, something new to be mad at President Obama about—–but I see it got worse after I left—–with Mike Pappantonio telling Dems not to vote in the next election—–again! Unbelievable and disgusting and leads to utter disaster, as we’ve seen. What’s wrong with these people? Self-destructive.

I was listening to MikeP on the radio this afternoon and he ranted about Trade deals, JPMorgan, Corporations, etc.
At no time did he say for people not to vote. He said they should Vote for Real Dems who care about workers, raising the minimum wage to a living wage and to ditch the two parties for they work harder to protect the Wealthy.

So if MikeP is now telling people Not to Vote in 2014…..then he is a soulless wicked fool.

The pool report from PBO’s trip to the restaurant said that they didn’t know whether PBO paid for his cheesecakes…WTF! OF COURSE HE DID! Just because the “reporters” didn’t see him do that…it’s left for some to wonder? Yeah, “those Dems…such takers” I didn’t appreciate that snide commentary.

    • October 25, 2013 at 6:05 pm

It’s all I can do to tolerate the MSM, agree with you.

I posted Zeke Miller’s pool report above, and DonnaNoShock posted a photo from the restaurant.

I’ve only been to NY twice, and in 2002 I think I was at that restaurant. I think it was a Saturday night, and everyone was so well dressed, from the staff to the customers. Really blew me away, have never seen people dress up for a deli-cheesecake type of restaurant.

I noted a lot of differences between the east and west coast on that trip. Tried to visit the 9/11 ground zero, but viewership was limited and I couldn’t get admission. Saw it from across the street, though.

      • 53 desertflower
        October 25, 2013 at 6:15 pm

Having lived on both coasts, the East is a little more “formal” the West more laid back and casual….both work for me, but I prefer casual…heels and I just do not agree:)

        • October 25, 2013 at 6:39 pm

          But it’s more than that.

There’s definitely a class divide that you don’t feel on the west coast.

I stayed at the Marriott on Long Island (Huntington NY IRC) and took a cab to the train station. On one day I rented a car to go to Westchester county.

The cabbies were all white, very direct and prototypical “Archie Bunker” types — when I said I wanted to explore Brooklyn, one said “Why the hell would you want to do that?”

The car rental employees were all very young white men in ties who talked about the various prep schools in the neighborhood (north of the Long Island Expressway).

Just don’t see those kind of class divides on the West Coast.

    Zerlina Maxwell…
when you defend your negative reporting about the Obamacare website glitches, as The Washington Post‘s Ezra Klein did last night on MSNBC, having the privilege of analyzing the process from the perspective of someone who is already insured and not in need of coverage allows the core impact of the new program on the health and security of millions of Americans to ….

she called Klein out re: Privilege…the author Ryan Cooper has a problem with Zerlina invoking the P word…interesting….reminds me of how some folks have the same problems when one calls out racist behavior….

  20. October 25, 2013 at 6:05 pm

I’m sure that aides take care of these details beforehand-credit card clearance, tips, whatever. A restaurant owner via Secret Service gets the number and discreetly swipes it afterwards. The President could carry a one-time debit card for the purpose of that particular dinner and have it destroyed once the bill has been cleared. There are so many ways to do this discreetly and securely that it’s hard to imagine a scenario where it would be obvious.

      • October 25, 2013 at 6:19 pm

That too is also discreet. No records. But I recall seeing a receipt with a credit card number.once. LIke any other CEO, he could also have been issued a Government credit card as well. In short, just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it hasn’t been paid for in some discreet manner.

They are looking for a scandal-any scandal now. Obama hadn’t given them anything to defeat him with, so now they are on a search for a “Monica” or some other gate to make him look bad. Illegal donations, whatever. But he’s too disciplined for that.

Pierce has some good posts today. His story on the “slow sad, yet oddly entertaining decline of Marco Rubio” highlights to me the difference between how new democrats behave in the senate compared to new republican senators.

If there is a more pathetic figure {than Rubio} in American politics today, I don’t know who it is. He’s crossing the yard again. Does he see the rake? Are you kidding?

Senators Al Franken and Elizabeth Warren showed EXACTLY how a new senator can have a very positive influence on the congress while Cruz and Rubio demonstrate the worst of the worst

OK. Scott Pelle starts out cbs newscast with “Obamacare Broken” cue music. and then goes on to say that the tech dude who’s taking it over says what we already know. That it’ll be fixed by end of November. These people just try to make $$$ by being glitzy and slick. geeze.

Please a4alice – get them! I’m so disappointed in Scott. His last few newscasts have slanted more negatively, like there was a memo that said “everyone & I mean everyone go Negative”.

Our local CBS feed also carries is the sister station to our local K-CAL9 and it’s just driving me mad this past week with the mis-information and negative lead-ins!!!

    • October 25, 2013 at 6:58 pm

Saw that. Made me want to scream and throw something at the TV. I stopped watching NBC months and months ago and switched to CBS. Think some of the time, CBS does a better job at being a bit more positive and balanced and not so much “pants on fire” but that definitely wasn’t true tonight. Very disappointed!!!!!!!!
