A Word from Bob

by Bob (@Our4thEstate)

#Kochsville is the Koch Brothers 21st Century #Hooverville Vision

They’ve spent billions already in their efforts to bring their vision to reality.

Once and for all We the People must not only reject their vision but defeat any politician espousing it.

#AmericaOrKochsville … That IS the ? we must force EVERY Republican to answer. EVERY ONE OF THEM.  EVERY DAY. From now until 4 Nov 2014 (and beyond).

Let’s START by pushing for a new House Speaker.

Let’s be UNRELENTING in ‘drowning’ House Rs in #KochTea who prefer #Kochsville to the United States of America.

Yes WE Can

On September 3, Brian Cloninger shot 8-year-old Donald Maiden Jr. in the face. Now, a Texas judge recently reduced Cloninger’s $2.2 million bond by more than half, sending an appalling message about the value of Donald’s life. The Dallas County District Attorney’s needs to revoke Cloninger’s lowered bail, and demonstrate that it is going to be vigilant regarding Donald’s case.

Thanks, Bobfr. The Washington State legislature has seen a couple of coalitions between Rs and Ds to take over the Speakership of the House. Unfortunately, the one I remember best was in the 60s when Republicans Dan Evans and Slade Gorton struck a deal with some conservadems from Eastern Washington to seize power and redistrict in favor of Republicans. I hope this time, Nancy Pelosi can peel off 17 reasonable Republicans and do this power move in reverse. We need to do everything we can to drive a wedge between the Tea Party and traditional GOP.

Nice to see Bobfr’s tweets highlighted. Two new blog tyrants in a week, Bobfr and Danny or has Bobfr always been and I missed it? I tweeted an interesting story in the NYTs about the hot coffee in the lap. I’ll go get it and share. It may surprise people. I had unearthed the truth soon after because I knew things didn’t work the way jokers were making it out to be. It’s similar to the way rethugs twist their stories nowadays to change the truth with the help of the media.

Italian ex-PM Silvio Berlusconi has been ordered to stand trial for the alleged bribery of a senator.

Berlusconi is accused of paying the left-wing senator 3m euros ($3.9m) to defect to his party in 2006 and help bring down the government.

The senator, Sergio De Gregorio, was sentenced to 20 months on Wednesday at a plea bargain hearing in Naples.

I’ll just mention this—–we were in Indy last week, meeting and greeting “our” new beautiful baby, and I noted a bunch of signs all around saying “Vote out incumbents!” I would have preferred “Vote out Repub incumbents”, but this was post shutdown, and the polls reflected who got the blame for that, so I assume that was the meaning behind the signs. I think many saw the light of day with that damaging and disastrous action, and I don’t think they will forget by 2014, as I’ve heard many Repub pundits wishfully say.

When he’s good, he’s great. He can wield an effective phrase like a dagger. He just doesn’t always know when he is doing damage in the name of ‘principle’. He forgets that he is part of an organism that has to function as a whole and weigh if his short term ‘principle’ will do us long term harm.

If he could understand the advantage of staying disciplined, he’d be one of our best messengers.

Remember how useful he was looking when he first ran for Congress? But then, as you say, he blew it (there was no there, there). I will applaud his continuing one-liners when they’re good, but otherwise I’m with ya on the shuddering at his lack of a principled message or any knowledge of how to play with others. Being a one-man-show works outside Congress, but not inside. Just ask TeddyBoy Cruz. (Eek.)

    Unclean Hands

    By Ed Kilgore

But you know what? The judge and jury and executioner in such a case should not, cannot, must not include those who have fought the successful implementation of ACA, who have lied about the law, have obstructed efforts to “fix” its inevitable lapses (some caused by Republican filibustering in the Senate that prevented its enactment via “regular order”), and who are at this moment using the healthcare.gov problems to discourage people from obtaining health insurance. But even as they celebrate every word typed in vain on healthcare.gov and every bit of faulty data, Republicans are presuming to make themselves the objective arbiters of Obamacare:

According to the Wall Street Journal, insurers have been working with the government to manually correct garbled data as applications trickle in. But that approach would likely prove unworkable as the volume of applications rises.

If the garbled data problem has been fixed, that’s reason to be more optimistic that the site will actually work well for buying health plans once it’s upgraded to handle high volumes of users.

Got here a little late but I want to join the chorus now in cheering Bob’s tweets and his creative solutions. Bravo and much thanks! I don’t quite grasp How a House coalition vote to make Nancy Speaker would work but I am all in favor nonetheless.

    • October 23, 2013 at 1:45 pm

Thank you Vicki. What I’m proposing does not necessarily have Leader Pelosi assume the Speaker position.

If 18 or more Rs were to join the Dems that would constitute the House Majority and they could then elect a new Speaker.

30+ Rs are likely feeling very threatened now. If they want to remain in their jobs in 2015 – something that Independents+Dems and even moderate Rs in their Districts could determine on 4 Nov – they might find switching now a wise decision.

Then they could be part of a Majority that passes Immigration reform, a sensible budget, a farm bill, and that doesn’t endanger the full faith and credit of the US. Remaining an R, except for those in deep South red districts, is stupid, politically, imho.

A large portion of the 87 Rs who voted with Ds to open the government and not default are likely pondering that reality, daily.

We just need to push them to be smart and to work for their constituents. Best way to do that is to align with the Ds and establish a functional House Majority.

Bob, your analysis of the Kochs and their plans is so spot on and so chilling. I like the term “Kochsville” and comparing it to Hooverville. This is a term that can catch on, it’s so clear and says so much.
It is amazing to me how President Obama has survived, and yes, thrived these past five years with so many forces against him, the official sabotage being planned the very night of his inauguration. He keeps going and going and going, doing the nation’s business while foolish, mean people keep trying to subvert all his efforts. It’s so sad to think of where we could be if these forces had not been operating, and we had elected a Democrat House in 2010!
Last week I was with a college friend who has taught ecology for almost fifty years. She just returned from China, teaching and investigating some special equipment she needs for her lab. She said the Chinese government is just POURING money into scientific research, while we have barbarians trying to sabotage scientific research.
We won’t let this stop us, however. As you and the president say, “Yes we can” and We will.

    • October 23, 2013 at 1:53 pm

      Thank you Carolyn!!

“She said the Chinese government is just POURING money into scientific research, while we have barbarians trying to sabotage scientific research.”

Yes and big reason they have so much cash to expend on science is they have a defense budget that is a fraction of ours – 24% per 2012 numbers.

I know President Obama is well aware of the discrepancy and the disadvantage the size of our defense budget actually represents – to our National Security, ironically.

As you note, he’s accomplished so much in the face of unprecedented obstruction. He’s likely to accomplish much more as we awaken Americans to the level of harm being done by the Kochs and a few other plutocrats. #Kochsville could well help bring that into focus – it is a term that has ready ‘visualization’ potential. Hopefully folk at OFA, DCCC, DSCC etc will paint those visuals far and wide!!

O T, but just wanted to relate my experience with healthcare.gov this morning.
I retired recently from a job that paid all of my healthcare premiums for 30 years; one of the few perks of the job. I kept the same coverage after my recent retirement, but. of course I am now paying the premium (low deductible). I intended to check out the marketplace to compare prices anyway, but I was even more motivated to do so when i received a notice from Floridablue that there would be a 12.1% increase beginning January. My current healthcare cost is 1/5 of my monthly pension. I logged onto to Healthcare.gov and moved around the site to get general info. then I did the live chat. No problems: no waiting and good information. The snag came when I tried to register. After two failures, I called the 800 number for help and I got a very nervous and inexperienced 21 year old. She was sweet, but guess what? Her computer froze up. I did not get upset because I knew of the possibility of difficulties, but I also know that I have a lot of time to get this done (after all it is only about 3 and 1/2 weeks since the roll out). However, even without being able to go through the application process, I found out that I could pay about 200 less than I currently pay and from the same provider. The ACA is not the website, as our president reminded everyone last week. As for computer glitches, anyone who has done anything on-line knows that this happens, no one dies, and eventually everything is corrected.

less than 24 hours and these are what Carol Costello is saying today?
Seriously? How come she still has her Job?

On Wednesday morning, CNN Newsroom anchor Carol Costello made a rather stunning, if cryptic, revelation. In discussing the firing of national security official Jofi Joseph, Costello agreed with panelist Jason Johnson that the Obama administration can be thin-skinned, and said that “President Obama’s people can be quite nasty. They don’t like you to say anything bad about their boss, and they’re not afraid to use whatever means they have at hand to stop you from doing that, including threatening your job.”

Johnson’s reaction to the firing was that “we had to see more of the tweets. It’s kind of inappropriate, so I can understand him being fired. But the Obama administration is very thin-skinned.”
