I love that picture but our FLOTUS looks like she has such a sad on right then. Maybe too much happening at the time. What that family has gone through this past 5 years is just heartbreaking, our American people are just horrendous at times. Tea Party that is, Emoprogs, And a few others. Smiling this morning tho. Breathing a little easier today.

    Good Morning Chipsticks…TOD Early Birds!!!

Had to mostly lurk on yesterday as my computer went the way of the GOP…IT FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED!

I am so thankful that the government shutdown is over, that the threat of default has been averted, people are going back to work, and that another Democrat has been added to the ranks in the Senate.

I am also thankful for the leadership shown by President Obama, Senator Reid, and “Speaker” Pelosi as well as the Democrats in both chambers being united.

I hope that the MSM and the TP/GOP are not allowed to dictate the storyline between now and the beginning of the year – and throughout next year for that matter. [I wish that whenever Cruz talks about doing what the American people wants, that he had those American people standing behind him so that we could see who they are.] Hopefully, we’ve learned a lesson from this drama that will stick with us through the 2014 election and elections beyond.

Also doing immigration reform is a big distraction from the so called glitches in the ACA.
It ain’t pass the house until. 2014

Good point – the Media can only handle one policy at a time – so while they deeply ponder (make that attack) immigration reform, people will quietly carry on registering for health care & getting the ACA benefits in their employer supplied health care.

So why can’t they write the headline in a positive way – rather than from the “minority” perspective – KNOWING that folks will read it the wrong way?

The headline should be: “Poll: Majority of Voters do NOT want to Repeal Obamacare”

I’m a long way away – but friends in the Blue Mountains – they live with the threat – all the time – don’t think I could live there.

Oh my goodness, I remember the bush fires. They are amazing. The Blue Mountains and Lithgow are such beautiful places. Prayers and support for NSW.

Sorry to hear that, 99ts. Too bad your new leader is a climate change denier, because such events will only get worse until the world addresses carbon pollution in a serious way. We aren’t doing our share here yet either, but President Obama is doing all he can via executive order.

Thanks Judith – they are more destructive than many other forms of natural disaster – and too often, started deliberately. It is so often the places of natural beauty – as are the mountains – that are most at risk.

Good morning everyone at TOD. And what a good morning it is!!!
Cheers for our new Senator from NJ Cory Booker. I was one of the doubters a year ago because I saw Senator Booker as a “showboat” but that says more about my issues then it does about him and I am over whatever it was. Totally happy with last nights win.

Last night was a Democratic Victory bigtime no matter how much the Administration the MSM and anybody else tries to downplay it.

Today thank god, the country is going back to work and programs are being funded.
The bill passed last night gave nothing to the band of criminal who held us up. NOTHING!!

And badly needed funding for CO flooding for example was added.
We are a Great Country which was temporarily put off its stride by a gang of rascist thugs.

As I said Good morning, a really good morning and btw Barack Obama is still president.

Cokie Roberts said that ObamaCare is the President’s ONLY achievement in his first term…

No one said a word except Joe who said…..” And look at his second term, nothing ”

Then some R named Matt Salmon says they are still going to try to delay the individual mandate.

This is the Media(R, USA) Linda

      – although some say Health Care is the big achievement – steering the USA through the financial meltdown was a MUCH bigger achievement – which is why the GOP have been trying so hard to cause economic chaos through lack of funding. The US recovered from the meltdown faster than any other country & if the GOP hadn’t intervened, unemployment would be at 5% – cf over 25% in some parts of Europe. My world also recovered quickly – with a truly bipartisan government at the time – but it hasn’t recovered to the extent of the US – our economy is weak,

    • October 17, 2013 at 9:13 am

I guess saving the world from an economic meltdown was nothing.
      Saving auto industry = nada.
Ended torture as U.S. policy is not a big deal.
      Withdrawing from Iraq was nothing.
      Wall St. Reform nothing.
      Ending OBL’s life was nothing.
Signing Lilly Ledbetter Act was really nothing.
Dealt with catastrophic BP oil spill = ZERO
Changing the whole landscape for fuel efficiency standards is nothing.
New START treaty for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, nothing.
Repealed DADT not a big deal.
      Toppling Ghaddafi was nothing.
Changing the student loan process also nothing.
Tightened sanctions on Iran was not a big deal.
Appointed two women to the Supreme Court was definitely nothing.

      I’ll just stop now.

Along with Robert Gibbs trashing the ACA website, this morning Bill Daley, former WH Chief of Staff, is doing the same thing. What happened to loyalty?

Because the world realizes that when America does well, they do well, and vice versa. But it seems that this truth has been lost on certain Americans. I wonder why?

The US $ has been the main currency of international trade since countries gave up on the gold standard. The Euro was fast becoming the next currency – overtaking the British Pound – and then it collapsed in 2008. So many countries hold their international reserves in $US – it is probably not a great idea for them or the US – someone who better understands world markets/trading could probably explain it better than me. When I was an economics major – the world was still using the gold standard! Makes me feel very last century.
