True story: in my IRC days, “A Horse With No Name” was my entry sig when I went into rooms. For the longest time, that was the only song by America that I knew. But in fact, it’s a great, mellow band, with catchy, eminently singable music. So, to help wind down from another momentous day, some America.
A Horse With No Name

Relax, groove out, and rest easy in the knowledge that when you wake up Barack Obama will still be President, and John Boehner will be getting past a hangover.
Yay! America!
wtg Dudette – I’m still winning the last place ๐
You’re TOD Family, 99ts! All We Do Is Win! ๐ !
WTG. wid yo bad azz self!
Thank ya kindly Sailor! ๐
You joining Chips to make sure I post last on every thread LL?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer would allow me a path to save face – I expect you to blame the hemisphere, or the atmosphere or climate change – let’s just blame the President
๐
Tsk tsk, 99ts have you learned NOTHING?
You’re not last — you’re leading from behind! ๐
One thing for sure – I will NEVER doubt the resolve of PBO – not that I ever have – but he has the courage of his convictions – and I sure have the courage of his conviction.
Right Man for the Job!
Hey!
I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
๐ ๐ ๐
After two days in the dessert sun,
My skin began to turn red.
After three days in the dessert fun,
I was looking at a river bed.
And the story it told of a river that flowed,
Made me sad to think it was dead.
You see, I’ve been to the desert on a horse with no name,
And it felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

When am I going to learn to NOT stop and read? LOL
probably the same time I remember to check for a new thread, before posing at the end of the old thread ๐
posing = posting – oh dear
Took me a while to get that myself, Alycee! ๐
Love the guitar licks in Ventura Highway!!!!
There is NOTHING like driving up the coast with “Ventura Highway” on your stereo.
๐ Bucket list item
Ok, need to pack. Might catch you guys later.
we want to seeeeee!
Are there pictures?
CNN TV is showing the White House driveway where the bill will be delivered, so the President can sign it into law tonight. Of course, you have to suffer through Piers Morgan and the regular yawn-provokers talking live if you tune in.
yuck. we just want to see pbo, and those wonderful hands holding the pen.
Really. I’ll pass. Let me know when PBO puts pen to paper. I’m good ’til then.
Exactly. Let’s see that wonderful left hand holdin’ that pen, Mr. President!
CNN doesn’t let me watch – only smart thing they have done in years
๐
Totally psychotic. As a former mental health commitment investigator. I heard a recording of this lady. Totally lost it.
WTH is she talking about? Is she nuts?
demonstrably.
Sounds as though she had a mental break. If that’s the case, I hope she gets help fast.
I think this lady is desperately in need medical intervention to deal with hear mental illness.
I do, too. And after she gets the help, which I hope she does, she is going to be totally embarrassed by tonight’s event. That last part is the least of her problems, looks like. Sad!
A religion inspired insanity – sad
LOVE that.
Ha!
More champagne please!
When the heck did that happen? THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tah-DAY baby! On THIS very day of days! ๐
I keep thinking how proud her father, mother, and brother would have been of her! I’m sure her children are just as proud. ๐
I think it is wonderful – senate voted 100% – the GOP likes all democratic presidents – except when they are in office.
I love the first part, but not too sure about the second (but I get your message!!!).
I toned it down from what I wanted to write. I just hate that e.g. the GOP now thinks President Clinton was wonderful – the man they wanted to impeach! They do not have a memory – doubtful as to a brain as well.
Quite doubtful. They only “like” Clinton because they think it pokes President Obama in the eye. Crazy, nasty people!
I probably should put in front of that “the media reports that the GOP …” Difficult to distinguish between what the GOP says & what the media says.
And on another story – my granddaughter was her usual gorgeous self yesterday. She is starting to be able to concentrate on one thing for more than 30 seconds – means I get less exhausted! Big on kisses and waving goodbye (when going from room to room). Dances whenever a toy plays music – it’s like those games – stop what you are doing and dance when the music starts ๐ – grandbabes is good. Boehner should go spend some time with them.
Love your grandbabe stories, 99ts! She sounds precious. And it gets better every day with the little darlings, doesn’t it?
Yesterday, my great grandson asked his aunt, when she and I were on the phone, “Is that my G.G.?” (G.G. is my grandma name; love it when he says “my” G.G,)
She told him yes and said, “Do you want to talk to G.G.?”
And he said, very sweetly,
“No.”
They keep that honesty until they get to school and start learning about life outside of parent/grandma love. Used to be a column in one of our magazines “out of the mouths of babes” – a laugh a second – bless them all.
Or they get to school, like my 10-y/o granddaughter, and call you one day after school and say, “I want you to talk to my friend and make her laugh.” I joked back, “I don’t make people laugh on demand. I’m not your puppet.” (She laughed.) Then I agreed and said to her shy friend on the phone, forced into it, “Hellooooooooo, dahlingggggggg.” (And she laughed.)
Goodnight to ya.
sleep well JoB – it’s been a great day – long but great
It has! I’m physically exhausted, but my mind’s still going.
Our son’s girlfriend’s mom (Kennedy historian) will be taking us to the Kennedy museum for a tour in December. Just think, this will be added by the time we get there!
Oh, Barb, that’s so wonderful. Photos, please!
what should I get my niece who is collector of everything JFK?
I am so thrilled that Caroline Kennedy, JFK’s daughter, will be the next U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
Awesome!
Fantastic! Did that just happen in the middle of the night?

LOL! ๐
Just got home from a long birthday dinner with family and friends. Tired but so excited to see sanity finally arrived in Congress. How long? Now to go back and read all the great posts of the day. Again, thanks to Chips, the BT’s, and all the great family members who bring all this wonderful information. Have a beautiful night.
Just spotted the little snark Nancy Smash tweeted yesterday:
i can think of some other good uses of that gavel–but i try not to dwell on violent fantasies.
*I try not to dwell on violent fantasies*
Define “dwell.” Five minutes, five hours, five days?
Ha!!!!! If it’s GOP related, I’m pretty sure we’re all dwelling.
i am glad nancy pelosi and president obama are such class acts; and i do love to picture them rumbling the rethugs!
Ha! That brought another smile to my face!
๐
I love her!
Me, too. Hope she isn’t too exhausted by 2014 after all this ____ she’s had to watch coming from Bonehead, and can pick up HER gavel one more time, surrounded again by her grandchildren at the installation ceremony.
All the better people are seen surrounded by children – be it their own, their grandchildren or other people’s children.
Like President Obama!
Kids know.
That’s what I was saying ๐ ๐ – he will be an unreal grandfather – my man is not too bad at it – but PBO will make grandfathering a super cool event.
Dayum!
i wouldn’t be surprised if the president signed the bill privately, without fanfare. after all, it’s not like congress achieved anything positive. they got a routine job done, but in a costly and damaging way. not some landmark legislation.
Yes, I think you’re right. We just want the photo – Ha!
๐
CNN wants to stay up to see PBO sign the bill.
That picture is everywhere on the intertubes
Creepy Piers Morgan on CNN just confirmed the President has signed the bill into law!
and now, sleep well dear president.
But first I sure hope he has a little sip of some congratulatory bubbly – just he and Michelle!
๐
hope they drink the whole darn bottle!

Lots of talk about pre-existing conditions in health care. In the single payer part of our system there is no such thing. In the private insurance available there is a “waiting period” – maximum of 12 months – so if you are pregnant – it is too late to get obstetric cover for this babe – nothing to stop you getting it for the next one. Thus said – the government option is always available. Public health provides prenatal & postnatal care and covers any condition regardless of when the problem started.
Am I the only great-grandmother type, somewhere between 66 and 68, who is now constantly refreshing Pete Souza’s twitter page, to see if he’s posted the photo of the President’s signing the bill into law? Sometimes I wonder.
Ha! I don’t wonder, because I don’t care! Where’s the damn photo?
Honey, Pete’s snoozing away in la-la-land! ๐
Ha – I gave up, don’t worry. ๐
๐
I’m being selfish but I could really use a third-term PBO…will be sad to see him go in 2017.
He’d be the first to tell you tha two-terms is enough for him personally, for his family and for the country.
He’ll continue to do great things, making the world a better place for all of us, I’m sure of that.
I’ll put my energy behind whomever he endorses, be it VPOTUS or someone else.
If FLOTUS or one one the girls eventually decide they want to put the Obama stamp back on the White House stationery in the future, I’ll be in their corner bigtime. ๐
Maybe put FLOTUS on SCOTUS before he rolls out – that would be CHOICE! ๐
I’m kidding. She should be on the ticket as VP. ๐
Oh, thank you, Mark, we were waiting to hear your take on the situation.
lolol. JOB…..LOVE THE SNARK ON MARK

end of the day with PBO signing the bill – ok, I will take that but will never forget the damage gop did to so many
That goes for MILLIONS of us gcl!
AWESOME!
boom!
Ha, ha, ha
Another failed TeaPartier ready for the speakers circuit. Ugh!
~ 24 hours ago it was obvious the future of America would be largely shaped in the day ahead.
That has been the case.
In that reality and spirit, want to stress the necessity for all of us to hold accountable those who voted against preventing default. By their Oath of Office they are sworn to protect and defend the Constitution. Their vote is a blatant violation of Section 4 of the 14th Amendment. They must be held accountable.
Also, when living within the making of history it is essential to reflect on just how exceptional it is that Americans elected and then re-elected President Obama.
Had that not happened the fate of America, as the behavior of the past two weeks of those enslaved to the Kochs and their theocratic plutocrat buddies have proven, would be vastly different from the sustainable reconstruction our President is leading.

Yet again stuck in ‘moderation’ …. at the bottom of a long thread …. oh well ……. what matters is Good Prevailed Over Evil ….
Yes, it did, Bob. Aren’t you happy????!!!!!!
I’m totally delighted Jacqueline!!!
Don’t understand why so many of my comments end up requiring ‘moderation’ ….. ๐
… back to work ….
Sorry about that. We’ll wait for them, though!
Thanks for fighting the good fight, especially these last few weeks! ๐
Thank you Jacqueline! Have a bunch of stuff to finish and it’s going to be another sleepless nigh in Seattle but at least it won’t be like the last few weeks of nights when, like so many others, have been well aware of the scale of danger our America was confronting.
last comment of the night … wishing all TODers restful sleep and a fine dawning of the next phase of the remarkably resilient American Promise.
My last comment on TOD of the night … that “American Promise” thingie brought tears to my eyes, Bob. Thanks.
Freed you, Bob.
Very kind of you, LL. Thank you
Holding my nose. It’s better than default
Hi Bob, it would be soo wonderful if PBO was to announce this AM that this case has been referred to Eric Holder for action!
Lawrence has a nutcase on “the President doesn’t reach out” !!!!!!!!!!!!! and lawrence didn’t call him on it – the GOP media
Exactly who is the President supposed to reach out to? A bunch of good-for-nothings who get paid to do the people’s business, but can’t be bothered to actually do the people’s business.
applause! applause!
You know Dudette, Sen. Harry Reid, from a neighboring state of Nevada, is one of the most honorable politicians I know. He is honest, fair, hard working, and very pragmatic. Sadly, he has had the misfortune of dealing with the totally insane Republican caucus which is driven by the visceral hatred of President Obama.
Cruz and co should have watched this one
DA CRUSHA!!!
Tis just how he said it would be
Hopefruit Inspires!
Yes Indeed Dudette! Just imagine where this country would be if Nancy Pelosi had remained Speaker through the Presidency of Barack Obama! These three leaders would have definitely changed this country for the best.
speaking of immigration– ‘america!’
Yes!
Gotta do better!!!
Plan by Christie – vote on a Wednesday in October
…and he still did not get the result he had hoped. Another case of wasted resources in pursuit of a failed cause.
That is a pathetic percentage.
Welcome to Chip’s Baby Boy, Danny

i know we’ll be drowning in commentary, but this piece in the new yorker is worth a read. a snippet:
‘ Before the senators voted, just after eight, they had to listen to a lecture from Ted Cruz, of Texas, who has an odd ability to make smooth tones feel screechy. โI ask you to imagine a world in which Senate Republicans united to support House Republicans,โ Cruz said. Americans did imagine that world; they got a glimpse of it in the shutdown, which Standard & Poorโs estimated cost the economy twenty-four billion dollars. Thatโs why the Republicans lost. But Cruz carried on, chiding his colleagues for not being as brave as he was. In the Senate itself, he might have done nothing more than run up the vote for the other sideโthe bill passed 81-18, and he really is that unpopular. ‘
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/closeread/2013/10/obamas-stubborn-win-the-shutdowns-cheerless-end.html
hahahaha – so now that the Democrats have proved they are the adults – MorningJoe is talking sports – they are such bag carriers for the GOP
Mika told a total lie on Morning Joe that only 33,000 people enrolled in Obamacare and visits to the website dropped by 88%. She stated it was from The Hill Blog.
that seems to be the new push for the day.. how no one/ very few have enrolled in Obamacare. It was one of the first tweets I saw this morning, via a Florida newspaper- according to them, they’re unable to verify even one Floridian enrolled in ACA. I’m sure this will be all we hear the next few days- anything to take eyes of the fact of the gop failure.
“a consulting form” give an estimate – no doubt a GOP consulting form – Morning Joe attacking the President as per usual – about anything and everything
Who would ever believe MJ – the whole shutdown – cost billions – was so Ted Cruz could learn about government – are these people sane – no wonder Cruz thought he was the leader of the free world
ok as an aspiring stenographer I feel it my duty to come to the defense of that poor woman who lost it yesterday on the house floor. Court Reporters aka stenographers work hella hard and capitol hill stenographers especially! During the shutdown they did not get furloughed. They were considered “essential” employees. They worked nonstop around the clock! I attended a stenographer conference 2 weeks ago and the head of the stenographers in congress was there. he explained how hard he and his employees worked and during his presentation his phone kept blowing up because his job needed him. So be easy on that woman yall. Shes been working nonstop for 2 weeks and shes burned out. My 2 cents.
She also seems to be a religious nutcase. I don’t think exhaustion produces that kind of outburst in normal people.
Great comments by Cory Booker this morning – “I am not the President – I will be the Junior Senator from NJ, I have a lot to learn” when the stupid was asking stupid questions.
