USA Today: Rain, not trucker protest, slows D.C.-area traffic
Traffic on the Capital Beltway around Washington was slow on Friday, but the culprits were largely steady rain and a heavy volume of weekday commuters, not a purported 3-day rolling protest by independent truckers.
Video cams occasionally showed three trucks rolling side by side, clogging up cars and other trucks behind them, but the Beltway otherwise keep truckin’.
…. Although organizers of the “Ride for the Constitution” said thousands – perhaps as many as 10,000 – trucks would take part, at mid-morning, only about 30 or so tractor-trailers were spotted on the Inner Loop of the Beltway that circles Washington through Maryland and Virginia….
Many of the trucks bore the official Twitter hashtag of the ride – #T2SDA – which stands for “Truckers to Shut Down America.”

I can’t see them!
Now, why would truckers be proud to “shut down America”? It’s a rhetorical question, of course.
They gonna shut down Murica until the Kenyan is impeeeeeeeeached. That’s almost a direct quote too 😆
I’ve been wracking my brains all morning for something to write for here and TPV, but I’m all out of fucks at the moment.
That’d be a great song LL:
“I’m all out of fucks, I’m so lost without you
I know you were right, believing for so long
I’m all out of fucks, what am I without you
I can’t be too late to say I was so wrong.”
Air Supply is to music as “processed cheese food” is to a fine gouda.
😆 Tragically, I now can’t get the flippin’ tune out of my head, grrrrrrrrrrr!
Happy BIrthday to JO’B, maybe that will help, Chipsticks… if you sing another song, not necessarily loud, it can help! Am I accurate in my 8 days and counting down until the arrival of one petit Sir Daniel O’Chips?? (or am I missing a few dozen threads??) 😉
😆 You are entirely accurate Mighty P, Sir Daniel arrives in 8 days!
Thanks, MP!
*Sir Daniel O’Chips* = Love it.
LOL! 🙂
DuuuuUUUUuuuUUUUUuuuudette!
“If we simply do our jobs the way we’re supposed to, we can’t force Obama to give us stuff.”
The fear of ‘precedent’
By Steve Benen
———————————–
Second, let’s not brush past the underlying GOP fear: Republicans want things from their policy wish list, and believe threatening to hurt Americans on purpose is the only realistic way to achieve their goals. It’s why they’re suddenly terrified of a clean debt-ceiling increase. “Hold on a sec,” they’re saying. “If we simply do our jobs the way we’re supposed to, we can’t force Obama to give us stuff.”
.
.
But — and I’m just spitballing here — Republicans could try something truly radical. They could try working on a policy agenda and then reaching out to Democrats in the hopes of reaching compromises. This would, I’m afraid, require both sides to make concessions, which the right isn’t comfortable with, but if GOP lawmakers were willing to try this, I have some good news for them:
There’s plenty of precedent for this approach working quite well.

I LOVE the WaPost readers comments.
** Protesting “government intrusion” by driving on an INTERSTATE. Brilliant. I am wondering if they get the irony.
*** In trucks made safer and more fuel efficient by government standards.
**** Please…. irony is beyond their intellect…
Not only, and what the hell are they going to ‘truck’, once the entire stream of goods is no longer, and they can’t afford gas? Short answer: N.O.T.H.I.N.G, at all.
Hehehehahahahahahaha!! Using government funded roads and highways to shut down America….smart, smart…
Howdy, TODville and a very happy Friday to all!
And JO’B, unlike Congress, I’m writing you a blank check to treat yourself to whatever your heart desires: HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Happy Happy Birthday J’OB! Hope you do something delightfully decadent to celebrate! 🙂
Thank you, Dudette darling!
Thank you, meta darling!
Poor GOP souls don’t know when to cry ‘uncle’! I would feel ‘sorry’ for their ignorance, hatred and anger if only they felt ‘sorry’ for those who need a sometimes helping hand.
Good morning Chips and TOD friends, and Happy Birthday to Mrs. O’Boomer. Chips, Your egg on face photo always crack me up. Love it.
MooooOOOooooOOOooonring COS!!!!
Thank you, COS darling!
Jacqueline, you sound worryingly sober, why aren’t you tipsy yet from celebrating this historic day????
What gave me away, Chips?
(Tonight, the games will begin!)
Chips Chica, should I rent the climbing video now and start clearing a spot for Danny O’Cheesy’s overnight stay with me, or do I have to actually wait until you are at your wit’s end and need a break?
😆 The wit’s end bit might come on day two VC, so start clearing that spot!!!
Okey-dokey! NP.
Yo, Desertflower! You still have that dog climbing to escape
Chipsvideo?Noooooooooooo!!!!!! 😆
Reading Desertf’s private mail? Shame on you! Where are those much vaunted morals now? 😀

Caption Contest!!!!
They don’t deserve to be in his presence, especially Rafael.
He was probably measuring the drapes. He really creeps me out.

finger pointing after PBO schooled them
Sorry Senators the Umbrella Holder has been Furloughed !
Ha! the GOP are wet in every possible way
THE WE WANT A COOKIE CAUCUS.
“Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.” A pic of PBO in the rain to juxtapose these bunch of phonies would be very appropriate right about now, eh? ;}
Couldn’t decide, MP……. so I disseminated two 🙂
Reaction after seeing the GOP’s standing with the public……..
😆 I’m with both, great call LP!
These folks are all wet!
McCain looks like he has a gun at Cruz’s back.
Caption contest? How about a dialogue? I’ll give it a lick.
“You were in charge of the umbrellas.”
“No, I wasn’t, he was.”
“Where’s the Marine guard to hold the umbrellas?”
“We don’t do that; that’s Obama.”
“Do you think ‘that one’ planned this rain?”
“Wouldn’t put it past him. He’s up to something. Did you see how he was smiling back there?”
“How does my hair look? Gotta get in front of the cameras soon.”
“Hair looks great. Love the frizz. You’re all set. And don’t forget to blame Obama.”
“Damn, I forgot to measure the draperies. Give me a minute, guys.”
“You’re on your own, Raphael. You’re on your own.”
“Guys!!!!!!! Hold the limo!!!!!”
Moooorning all you O’s!!!!! Another great getting up day in TODdy town!!!
So I guess the price of gas isn’t that much of a concern after all.
Don’t Truck on Me! – RWNJ call of the wild.
Don’t Truck with Me – cookemom call to the wild
#TrustBarack …. or get paved ….
HEE HAW, this teabagger DOESN’T TRUST FOX NEWS.
I wonder how did Cruz behave in the presence of brilliance? 🙂
Bahahahahaha. Tweet of the day.
They showed up in trucks made from the same stuff as Wonder Woman’s jet.
LL? Do you pray? If so: Ireland are playing Germany in an hour…..
I’ve been reexamining my struggle with God lately, yes. Which will eventually be the subject of an essay, either for here for for my own blog. But, sadly, I fear there’s not much to be done for the Celts. Do they still have a chance to make it into the playoffs for the second place teams?
Meanie. The Celts are done, no trip to Rio 😦
I never got how God was supposed to pick winning sports teams. Just baffles me……
Wasn’t this stunt tried before in “White Line Fever?”
A just-completed national survey from Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research confirms that the voting public is fed up with just about everyone in Washington, but Republicans are clearly bearing much more of their anger and it damaging their prospects for 2014.
By a 16-point margin, 43 to 27 percent, voters blame the Republican in Congress, rather than President Obama and the Democrats, for the government shutdown. The shutdown had left an already damaged GOP brand in tatters and the party’s electoral prospects wounded. The party now has a 2:1 unfavorable to favorable rating, 26 percent favorable vs. 52 percent unfavorable (for a net -26 rating). Among independents their rating is -35. Democrats don’t fare great either, but with a net -5 rating (39 percent favorable vs. 44 percent unfavorable), they do much better. Perhaps most important, on the generic ballot, Democrats now lead by double digits, 46 to 36 percent.
The White House Press Corps Briefing with Press Secretary Jay Carney has been pushed back to 2:45 p.m.
That’s because Jay and the “Boss” are probably sitting in Jay’s office laughing at the Republicans.
Wonder if PBO will make an unannounced appearance.
This is only the beginning…….
And this OFA ad has been running non-stop all week on every news channel
It has existed the whole time, who is not comprehending this after a week and a half?? Sheesh.
More foolishness…
Ted cuz said at the conservative rally, I hope they send a Posse for me when I go to WH .
A Posse ?
Got Posse?
I don’t know ?
What he meant to say is: I hope POTUS does not notice what a POSER I am… nothing to do with reality. You Cruz, you lose. No one will miss this mofo once his 15 minutes are up.
Dems send gift basket to Ted Cruz: ‘Thanks for making Obamacare popular, GOP less so’
Buoyed by a new poll showing that the current federal shutdown has whacked the Republicans and lifted support for Obamacare, one of the president’s closest allies decided to thank the architect of the GOP strategy with a fancy gift basket.
“Dear Ted,” said the card to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on the fruit and snack basket from 1-800-FLOWERS sent by Brad Woodhouse, president of Americans United for Change and the former Democratic Party communications director. “A Texas sized thank you!! Thanks to you, Obamacare is more popular and the GOP is less so. Keep up the Good Work!! Yours, Americans United for Change.”
He added, “it’s the best $90 we’ve spent.” The gag gift, which cost $91.98 including the service charge, is called “Fruit Gathering,” and meant for “your closest friends,” according to the website.
More here: http://washingtonexaminer.com/article/2537145
Because I don’t like Ted, I think I would have been happier if they’d sent the basket to a furloughed family, or a meals on wheel senior IN TED’s NAME.
Or sent it filled with rotten fruit!
Not at all; we don’t want to give them anything to criticize that would be clearly unfavourable.
Can someone please tell me how disrupting my beltway is going to get President Obama Impeached?
These have got to be the stupidest fools I have ever witnessed. Again, they miss the mark. Even if a thousand of them did show up today or tomorrow what makes them think that disrupting the traffic flow of the average person driving around the beltway will get them what they want? Why must they always make the innocent suffer for their causes??? If they want him impeached they need to go park those damn trucks at the Capitol and lobby their congressman for impeachment because I’d love to see them try…. 🙄
Donna, trust me, it is best not to know how they arrived at their decision. I say that out of concern for your mental health should you decide to better understand their thinking which might lead to madness.
I’ll take your advice Don!
For the sports nuts among us (and I’m one), LP turned me on to this website: feed2all.eu. You can pretty much watch any sporting event you want, when you can’t get them on on TV. But make sure you have Adblock Plus loaded on your browser, otherwise you’ll get a crapload of ads.
It is Friday……… so a little Bruce can’t hurt right?
Now that Bruce Springsteen has ended his Wrecking Ball tour, he’s saying thanks to his fans with a song: the rocker posted a grateful letter to supporters on his website, along with an uplifting cover of “Dream Baby Dream” by punk pioneers Suicide that scores an emotional video of Springsteen fans.
Speaker Boehner: Mr. President you gotta throw me a lifeline, my members are all upset with me and I don’t know how much longer I can survive.
President Obama: Calm down John, now is not the time for fear. That comes later.
So true.
Another terrorist picked off:
Welp, there goes Tehreek-E-Taliban’s Holiday weekend.
But Ted Cruz sez…
To tell you the truth, I miss the good old days when the only thing the Tea-baggers were worried about was if President Obama’s birth certificate was real or not.
Democrats gave that away when Dem voting levels fell 46% in 2010. get your brain around that: 46% LESS voters.
It was no Tea Party wave (Repubs fell 25%), it was Dem’s allowing them to infect the halls of government by not bothering to vote or bitching about a ‘public option’, or ‘drones’ or something. Anything, other than supporting the best President they’ll see in their lifetimes and making true John McCain’s message that any ignorant, hateful idiot could be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
It’s shameful.
Continue the discussion with some laughter. New post: http://theobamadiary.com/2013/10/11/comedy-chat-real-actors-read/
“Zeeda Andrews, conservative activist and co-organizer, is a Tennessean, former country music singer and conservative patriot who lives in Jacksonville. She has actively called for Obama to be impeached.
“We want the president of the United States removed from office,” she told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “He’s a threat to our national security, he’s a threat to our way of life, he’s a threat to our future generations.”
A fundamentalist Christian, Andrews has said she opposes Islam and believes the president is a Muslim and “the Antichrist.” She also disputes official explanations for the Sept. 11 and Boston Marathon terror attacks.”
Let me guess, she listens to Alex Jones and she wants her country back from the “blahs” that’s really the only reason why the President is a ‘threat to future generations”. She’s worried about not having those lily white grandchildren.
