A good portion of the questions posed to Jay were about Negotiating. These people are just CRAZY.

The Rovian memo instructions have been distributed. I saw on Twitter that Ed Schultz has been ranting about “caving.” Obviously the NBC poll yesterday traumatized not just the GOP in congress, but certain media cretins who benefit from the same corporate sponsors who control the GOP.

Does that DINO Ed Schultz scream “cave” every other day about something POTUS is doing? Ugghh, I never watch him – he and most of the MSNBC freak shows are either too loud or self-important or both.

These are not professional reporters…no, no, they’re drama queens – salivating for anything juicy that they can run & tell. It’s a good thing they got Jay instead of me up there in front of them – that’s all I’m gonna say…

    • October 11, 2013 at 5:50 pm

I don’t usually have a chance to watch Jay’s briefing, but saw most of it today — with a few audio gltiches, didn’t hear much of what upChuck had to say except for his sneering tone.

Who is the “Jim” idiot (far left front row on the screen) who suggested that Rs have waved a white flag?

The WH correspondents need to be purged. They believe they are sportscasters reporting on the score of a game (no offense to the unparalleled sportscasters like Vin Scully whe knows baseball history inside and out from 1950s forward).

The networks need to be informed that this is NOT A GAME. Jay did nothing but repeat himself throughout the course of the presser because of the WPC stupid, stupid questions.

And just about everyone else in that room insisted that the President is negotiating, when in fact, as swbluega noted on the previous thread:

“Why is it hard to understand that budget negotiations will begin once the government has been re-opened AND the threat of default (which means for more than 6 weeks)? The usual suspects in the WHPC are trying so hard to get Jay to say that the talks taking place amount to “negotiations” so that they can say that the President has caved.”

    love me some sam wang!!

‘ Andrew Sullivan has collected some commentary that argues against my suggestion that the House could potentially flip in 2014. There were some good points made. However, it should be noted that some of these analysts’ comments have been OBE (Overtaken By Events) – the shutdown.
    ~
All of the arguments on this subject can and should be quantified. It’s just like last year’s Presidential race: is any of this punditry data-based? Today I start to outline a true prediction.
    ~
Provisionally, it looks like the following: In a little over a week, the shutdown has increased the probability of a Democratic House takeover in 2014 from 13% to as high as 50%. ‘

Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla on why he’s gotten involved

“The effort to derail, defund and discredit the ACA (‘ObamaCare’) is ridiculous and insulting. The law serves to help all Americans more easily access affordable, reliable health insurance, even those who were previously shut out of private insurance because of a pre-existing condition. These objective basics of the law are rarely front-page news. Healthcare.gov does a great job of detailing out the most important features.”

“As for the Republican efforts to defeat this law, I’d like to recommend any of the time-tested, American-as-apple-pie methods of repealing a law,” Walla said. “There are many. Like, say, winning an election and repealing a law through legislation which can be enacted by the executive branch. I can also recommend the judicial branch as a place to sort through grievances and contests of law. Our three branches of government provide ample checks and balances, in a sound framework, for any party wishing to engage them.”

        With you, HF2.

The media only cloud things up. Case in point — Jay Carney’s presser. They couldn’t accept Jay’s answer and so hounded him for an hour on the same topic, forcing him to repeat himself the whole time. Worthless.

Don’t understand the Senate/Congressional processes the way many here do, but here’s a couple of tweets:

LOS ANGELES — There are radio and television commercials galore, along with Twitter and Facebook posts and scores of highway billboards. There are armies of outreach workers who speak Spanish, Tagalog, Cambodian, Mandarin and Cantonese, all flocking to county fairs, farmers markets, street festivals and back-to-school nights across the state. There are even dinner parties in Latino neighborhoods designed to reach one family at a time.

With enthusiastic backing from state officials and an estimated seven million uninsured, California is a crucial testing ground for the success of President Obama’s health care law.

The state is spending $94 million to help local health clinics, community groups and labor unions reach residents — many who have lived without health insurance for years — and have them complete the often bewildering process of signing up for coverage. “It’s going to take a little bit of everyone doing a lot of different things to get this all together,” said Lisa Hubbard, a director at St. John’s Well Child and Family Clinic in South Los Angeles, which has one of the highest rates of uninsured in the country. “We’re really going to have to try anything and everything.”

      The fear of ‘precedent’

These House Republican lawmakers are saying they want to make catastrophic threats a normal part of contemporary politics, and justify this extremism by saying voters haven’t left them any choice.

    • October 11, 2013 at 6:13 pm

Yeah, and according to upChuck Todd, this Administration has failed “to sell” Obamacare.

I said back when he uttered those words (which prompted the “fire upChuck” petition to NBC) that soon enough he wouldn’t know what hit him, once Obamacare truly begins it rollout on Oct 1.

Saw Ezra Klein for a few unpleasant moments on @Maddow last night. Not surprisingly, he’s joined his wife’s (Annie Lowrey) claim that Obamacare had a terrible rolllout, pretty much echoing upChuck’s “incompetent” words.

You know, Mr. know-it-all Klein, it’s been a week. There are actual people engaging in face-to-face explanations of Obamacare; local media is saturated with news, and people can receive information via a telephone.

There is no good reason for Ezra to have bashed our President last night. I’m standing firm — never again will I watch his smug face on television or read anything from his blog. My dislike for Ezra and his wife has grown into a full-blown fury.

      BWD, last night:

I read about this tragedy the other day. It’s a blessing that this baby has gone back to Heaven and is no longer suffering or in pain. The accused has a history of abuse on children and adults and somehow this woman felt it ok to leave her baby with him. I have a hard time believing that this man had not demonstrated his short patience around this woman.

    • October 11, 2013 at 6:16 pm

Oh no—–I read about that. As I have stated, it seems 99 times out of a hundred, whenever anything bad happens to a baby or a young child, it is ALWAYS the mother’s boyfriend who is the culprit.
So terribly sad. I know he loved that little guy.

I saw “Captain Phillips” the Somali pirate movie starring Tom Hanks this afternoon.
    Exciting and intelligent.
Of course I would have liked it even better if the President received more credit, but that’s maybe just me.

I watched the Pentagon briefing right after the kidnapping was under control and PBO had quite a lot to do with the outcome. The movie just said sort of like a throwaway that the WH said to complete the mission by any means necessary. Once you bring in the SEALS then “by any means necessary” is a given, right?
I recall the Pentagon General specifying that POTUS himself said to take the shot.

    • October 11, 2013 at 6:15 pm

I so agree with you. I wish Tom Hanks or Captain Phillips himself would make mention of the President’s role. No doubt any other Repug president would get more than their share of credit.

I remember President Obama speaking about this. He was talking about all he had to face from the get go——the financial disaster left as a little gifty by W., the wars, all those initial decisions, the disastrous weather events etc., and he added in sortof an amusing way——even pirates! He never imagined he would also have to deal with pirates! Pirates on top of everything else!
