Hello my lovely HZ! My sweet, funny Dad is home from the hospital. Itching to get back to playing poker. Supposed to go see heart specialist tomorrow. I suspect they’re gonna say it’s time to replace his 3 stints, but that’s just me. They’re way past time to come out.

Thank you for asking. I’m returning your loving hug too. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ HZ }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} 😀

Ms. Dudette, sorry I did not know your father was going through. I wish him all the best and more poker games!
          Congratulations for being #1.
I am still trying to get myself together from the last pic of Autumn and then, this one of the Milky Way! Oh my, my, my.

Let me get this right: You have a sixth sense for music. A bono fide Nerd. And now, this…..lover of Nature.
What did I miss? Your father and mom must be the bomb!
When I saw that pic of Autumn, I thought of the song, “Autumn In New York.”
Thank you for making me smile….as usual.

Thank you so much LDS. You are so kind!

I’m relieved that this most recent health scare has passed. Just praying that we can get him on a path to treatment that will eliminate these episodes.

And, yes, I’ll have to agree with you — my parents are pretty much the bomb-diggity, if I do say so myself! I lucked up big time in that department! 🙂

Autumn is my very favorite time of the year! Brisk windy mornings, vibrant leaves rustling… just LOVE IT!

    GE Chips, UT, TOD……….

The G.O.P.’s case hinges on the employer mandate, which requires companies with fifty or more full-time employees to provide health insurance. It also regulates the kind of insurance that companies can offer: insurance has to cover at least sixty per cent of costs, and premiums can’t be more than 9.5 per cent of employees’ income. Companies that don’t offer insurance will pay a penalty. Republicans argue that this will hurt companies’ profits, forcing them to stop hiring and to cut workers’ hours, in order to stay below the fifty-employee threshold.

The story is guaranteed to feed the fears of small-business owners. But the overwhelming majority of American businesses—ninety-six per cent—have fewer than fifty employees. The employer mandate doesn’t touch them. And more than ninety per cent of the companies above that threshold already offer health insurance. Only three per cent are in the zone (between forty and seventy-five employees) where the threshold will be an issue. Even if these firms get more cautious about hiring—and there’s little evidence that they will—the impact on the economy would be small.

Meanwhile, the likely benefits of Obamacare for small businesses are enormous. To begin with, it’ll make it easier for people to start their own companies—which has always been a risky proposition in the U.S., because you couldn’t be sure of finding affordable health insurance. As John Arensmeyer, who heads the advocacy group Small Business Majority, and is himself a former small-business owner, told me, “In the U.S., we pride ourselves on our entrepreneurial spirit, but we’ve had this bizarre disincentive in the system that’s kept people from starting new businesses.” Purely for the sake of health insurance, people stay in jobs they aren’t suited to—a phenomenon that economists call “job lock.” “With the new law, job lock goes away,” Arensmeyer said. “Anyone who wants to start a business can do so independent of the health-care costs.” Studies show that people who are freed from job lock (for instance, when they start qualifying for Medicare) are more likely to undertake something entrepreneurial, and one recent study projects that Obamacare could enable 1.5 million people to become self-employed.

Hello TOD’ers. It’s my 30th wedding anniversary today, and I am so glad PBO’s wonderful and masterful press conference took place.

  11. October 8, 2013 at 8:43 pm

“Together, these 14 bills allocate approximately $83.1 billion in funding,” Linden writes. That would leave 82 percent of the $470 billion non-defense discretionary government unfunded. In other words (and colors), Obama wants to fund the whole pie below. The GOP, which would like to pair government funding with Obamacare’s defunding or delay, is asking him to fund the blue slices only. The White House’s logic is that passing the blue stuff makes it more likely that we go even longer without the larger, redder part of the pie.

This isn’t three-dimensional chess, exactly. It’s not even chess. It’s just a radical wing of the Republican party exerting on House members while holding the rest of government hostage. Meanwhile, the list of casualties deepens: the roads, the patients, the kids, the border, the veterans, the economic data, the product-safety inspections …

Well known facts. They were able to get the DC/NY Pundits and Journos to litigate the lies as serious issues several times in the media.

Is it any wonder that their Insistence to Repeal ObamaCare is their way to Repeal pres Obama the man? They have a Media that coddles every one of their idiosyncrasies.

Usually, the president’s party loses House seats at the midterm election, so the normal expectation would be for Republicans to gain seats. But exceptions can happen. In 1998, Democrats picked up five seats. That rather surprising result came after a rough few years, during which Speaker Newt Gingrich led the way to the last substantial shutdown, lasting 21 days.

PPP surveyed 24 congressional districts currently held by Republicans. They asked voters to choose between their current representative and a generic Democrat (data as PDF). Here are the margins they got, plotted against last November’s election result:.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The swing was toward Democrats for 23 races (below the red diagonal) and toward the Republican for one race (above the diagonal). The key piece of information is the gray zone. If more than half the points are in that gray zone, then that predicts a swing of >6% and a Democratic takeover. Currently, 17 out of 24 points are in the gray zone.

    Chips, further evidence ….

“Get your fiscal house in order: China warns US as Asia expresses concern for $1.3tn of investments

‘Clock is ticking’, says Chinese minister, as US fails to break deadlock over government shutdown and fast-approaching ‘debt ceiling’ deadline”

Sec 4 of the 14th Amendment has been Violated by Members of Congress. Period.

    • October 8, 2013 at 9:39 pm

Just to be clear everyone, this is a BIG DEAL and a BIG VIOLATION of our Constitution – of the LAW.

The #GOP have trounced Sec 4 of the 14th Amendment and if you want to understand the consequences of them not being severely punished, just read these two paragraphs and ponder the implications:

“Since the global financial crisis, which led to a sharp depreciation in the value of the dollar against the renminbi, the authorities in Beijing have been concerned about the fact that so much of their national reserves are held in the form of the American currency. China has been promoting the idea of a new reserve currency to replace the greenback, with some analysts suggesting that the renminbi could one day take its place.

Mr Zhu stressed that it was vital, not only for China but the wider global economy, for America to resolve its budget impasse. “Safeguarding the debt is of vital importance to the economy of the US and the world,” he said. Referring to a similar deadlock in 2011, which led to a downgrade of the US AAA credit rating by the Standard & Poor’s agency, Mr Zhu said: “We hope the United States fully understands the lessons of history.””

Talk about Treason – talk about Sedition – You’re looking it, in real time.

We have at least 55K Military men and women in Afghanistan. The Afghan was 12 yrs as of yesterday and now going on it’s 13th yr. A war that was never paid for. Now we have a shut down with 17 our our men killed since the shutdown and their families have no benefits to arrange for their funerals.

And Boehner is adment about not reopening our Fed Gov’t? He thinks that it is unconditional surrender?

Nobody who has that much power over parts of our country – as the Koch Brothers do – would be doing everything legally. Nobody. Power that’s bought or forced to that degree breeds corruption. It’s what we humans do. I want them to go down with their hatred into a bottomless pit of payback.

Yes the vote is just a month away but imagine if Christie was defeated and Ms. Buono won?

A Christies loss would send a level of terror into the republican party and there would numerous stories to related this to the GOPshutdown.

Based on today’s reports of the NJ governor debate, it seems as if Ms Bouno was doing what she has to do to help her self.

If you have some time, please send some attention her way.

I am amazed that Law professors, Constitutional lawyers and Academicians are not discussing the Unconstitutional acts by the faction of TBGOPers in the House. The argument by the Obama Team has Not been framed that way. It has been implied indirectly as to Not set precedent for Future POTUS’.

The media has never covered the UnConstitutionality of the actions of John Boehner and his TBGOPers……their gamesmanship and their affront to the 14 Amendment section 4.

Thom Hartmann, had many thoughts on this this afternoon. He was sure that POTUS gave an opening to invoking the 14 Amendment sec 4 in his conference today. He referenced when POTUS mentioned that he had contingencies his team were working on..
