    Hi everyone:

Had my first doctor’s appointment today since I moved from New York. I’ll be getting treated at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Get this, they have complimentary valet parking. It’s a huge place. When I went to register as a first timer, they gave me a round device that beeped and flashed when it was my turn. I’ve only seen that at Shake Shack LOL!!

So over the next two weeks I’ll be getting a series of tests and scans to see if there is anything else wrong with me or if I’ve gotten worse. I will remain on hormone treatment for the cancer for a while so no chemo unless absolutely necessary.

Everyone seemed very nice and I heard good things about my new doctor. I hope all this remains true.

In other news (but not less important), my grandfather passed away late this morning. We weren’t close and I hadn’t seen him in years but its still sad because my mother wanted to go see him before he died. My mother got the message while she was waiting for me at the doctors. Luckily a friend of hers came with us and was able to console her. 😦

Thanks Robeta! I was working and missed the President’s presser. I just finished viewing it. I am so proud that I voted for him twice. As far as I am concerned, he is the best President in my life time.

So to re-cap: The President at his presser took many questions from journalists, ignoring the front row peacocks who are unclear about what journalists do.
The President will be at The WH tomorrow nominating his selection for Fed President—Janet Yellen.

Not a bad days work, I’d say.

He says conversation because he can’t say compromise. Any pub who would ever utter that word will be hog tied and primaried out of town. That word is forever gone from the pub vocabulary. rip compromise

WOW, U.S. is cutting off foreign aid to Egypt. This is a BFD.

    • October 8, 2013 at 7:50 pm

What what what??? But Obama is enabling military dictators! Or is he enabling wild-eyed jihadists? It’s so hard to keep up.

    • October 8, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Horrific violence in Egypt this weekend, at the hands of the military.

This makes Iran/Russia/Syria fulcrum that much more important in the Israel-Palestine two-state solution.

Everything in the middle east has me on edge, and the situation in Egypt is very troubling, especially for Gaza.

    • October 8, 2013 at 8:20 pm

Washington (CNN) — The United States will cut off aid to Egypt in the wake of the July coup against President Mohamed Morsy and the turmoil that has followed, a U.S. official said Tuesday.

The Obama administration withheld some military aid to Egypt in August.

The U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the full suspension has been prompted by an “accumulation of events,” including recent violence against protesters, dozens of whom were killed over the weekend.

The suspension will formally take effect in the coming days, the official said.

aloha chips and tods! delurking for a minute–just loving the president’s remarks today! my favorite (of many terrific parts) was the end, when he said, gee if you made threats at your job like the repubs do in theirs, you’d be fired. loved the look on his face! this is a lovely shift toward straight out skewering the radical rethugs. a slate piece focuses on that too:

‘ Throughout the federal shutdown, President Obama has challenged House Speaker John Boehner to call an up-or-down vote on legislation to reopen the government. Mostly, Obama has done this in the name of good policy. Today, he sharpened the attack. He’s telling Boehner to call the vote so that congressmen who oppose the bill can be exposed and thrown out of office. ‘

the header for this piece says: Obama’s message to House Republicans: Vote on the shutdown so we can oust you in the midterms.

  21. October 8, 2013 at 7:52 pm

PBO met with conservative media Gigot, Costa, York, Parker and Krauthammer for NINETY minutes today after the presser. That’s a LOT of the President’s time.

    this is hilarious–

‘ House lawmakers are picking up their own towels at their private gym, which has remained open during the government shutdown. [WATCH VIDEO]

The gym was to have been closed, but the Architect of the Capitol decided to keep the facility open because several House members store personal items inside.

No one is there to check members into the facility in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building, which is open exclusively to current and former House members.

Members don’t only have to pick up their towels — they have to reuse them for their showers, because there is no more laundering service. ‘

love the image here– ‘members don’t only have to pick up their towels–they have to reuse them’. can’t you just see them searching the corners for one that’s not too stinky? presumably the floors aren’t being mopped either, so the place is generally a mess. when this is over, it would be a good time for the staff there to ask for a raise 🙂

    • October 8, 2013 at 8:12 pm

After what the GOP scumcritters have being doing (and continue to do) to their bosses (the American people) hope things only get worse for them at that gym.

The best part for me was the whole thing! I really enjoyed how he did not even look at the “front row.” He avoided them at every cost.
And he did it with grace, style and swag…….talk about teaching moments!
His apology was heartfelt and sincere.
    Lord knows, he is tired.

I LOVED how dejected Ed Henry and especially Chuck Todd looked every time POTUS called on someone else. It was a stunning and righteously BURN.

  33. October 8, 2013 at 8:13 pm

I intend to be unrelenting on the fact that the language of the Sec 4 of the 14th Amendment is crystal clear.

Any act that causes a ‘question’ to be raised, in any form, regarding the US fulfilling its obligation to pay the ‘public debt’ needs to be the focus.

It is not about the President acting to instruct the US Treasury, imho, to pay bills. That’s Congress’s obligation.

It’s about the President, Senator Reid, Nancy Pelosi and millions of American citizens pressing the Department of Justice to enforce the law.

Numerous Members of Congress, under Oath of Office, have acted to cause wide-spread questioning of whether the US will abide by Section 4 of the 14th Amendment – the cornerstone of what enables the US Treasury to sell bonds, for starters.

That should lead to indictment and prosecution.

The 14th Amendment doesn’t proscribe what happens after a default – hell no! Because the very act of causing doubt that the US Government will honor its obligations to borrowers and suppliers of goods and services is already highly damaging.

Any question – just look at what is already happening in the bond market.

Please help by contacting the Justice Department and urging them to act to stanch those doing real, measurable harm to America.

    Thank you!

Chips, thank you for the compilation of tweets and for including one of mine. Much appreciated.

Do you think my comment, above, about the 14th and accompanying two tweets meets TOD standards as a ‘mini-word’? I think the emphasis on it being President Obama who should act under the 14th – per pressure from folk like President Clinton and Nancy Pelosi and others – is misplaced. The violating party are Members of Congress, sworn to defend and uphold the Constitution, who are now in violation of the law. It’s the DoJ, as well as appropriate Congressional Committees, who should be acting.

No pressure, no harm, if not.

        Thank you.

Hello Ms. Chips, you captioned that look perfect….add another one to your collections.
POB did not even look at those fools. He did not give them a glance.
All that posturing in the beginning those clowns were doing to make themselves look important was smacked down like that fly.
      Absolutely loved it….
While on the other hand just read that the Pillsbury dough boy of NJ ran…..thumped off the stage.

You know when the Prez is serious. He ignores fake journalists like Ed Henry, and corrupt ones like Jonathan Karl. He ignores foolish equivalent-truthers like Chuck Todd. It was great to see President Obama ignore those fools. He called on NPR, Reuters, AP. But Who else. I couldn’t get the other news sources. Anybody knows?
